The Sony defense force is going all out on this crossplay topic. Their logic is not based in reality though. The excuses they make are terrible at best.
1. The "Why should Sony give it's competition an advantage?"
A. This is Sony fanboys admitting that the Xbox platform and ecosystem is better than Playstation. Having the PSN userbase openly exposed to how much better Live is would likely be bad for Sony. Just imagine all the cows hearing about the awesome matches that Lems have been having while they're waiting for yet another "Stability Update" to install.
2. The "Lems just want crossplay with PS4 to keep their populations up"
A. PS4 player counts don't vastly outnumber XB1 player counts on games the way they try to say it does. For all those millions of PS4's sold, they usually outnumber Xbox players by about 10% on most online games. Crossplay with other systems means that in the future, the PS4 player counts will die long before the Xbox's will.
3. The "Only a small minority of gamers want or even care about crossplay".
A. This is the best one, because it's the most absurd. Xbox gamers didn't make crossplay the big issue it is today... Neither did MS. Developers did. It really started with Rocket League, then was reiterated by CDPR. Fortnite and Fallout 76 are just the latest games where developers have openly stated that they want it. Xbox gamers want this, Switch gamers want this, PS4 gamers want this, developers want this, pc gamers want this, MS wants this, Nintendo wants this. Gamers in general want this. Only the most pathetic and desperate of fanboys don't want this.
You cows are gonna need a better excuse, because the ones you've brought to the table so far are lame.
