I think it's because they have to share their computers with other people. If anyone approaches my PC I hiss and glare, and people go away. So I don't have to play on consoles :) However, I do like to take a break for a bout of Tekken or super smash if any opponents are in the house :Dhamidious

When you are playing games like the Witcher and NeverWinter Nights 2 (your sig), I can understand why you don't want to share your PC with others :P

Yeah, Tekken is cool too. I loved it on the PSP.

TAKE. THAT. BACK.

That holds true to the crazy ones who will never touch a console because it isn't elite enough for them. But that over generalization hurts my secular heart like nothing else.

If a hermit looks through the same kaliedoscope that you and your consolite friends use we see almost the same picture... except its one of a crazy communist who denounces something that they can't attain themselves.

Sorry, but I just see the threads cropping up far more than other groups in System Wars. "Why get a console. Upgrade your PC, it's good for you." I'm trying to be as objective as possible, and if you see my post history, I have almost no preference to any console or system. Although I do admit I have a bias against hermits. Not their system. Hermits. Currently the PC is the only system I can play on, since the 360 died. And I'll be getting the Witcher soon, as that's been a long due purchase.

Play a shotting game on a console, then on the PC, and you will never want to touch a gamepad for shotting games again. After playing FarCry on my laptop just 30 minutes ago, I felt so comfortable with the keyboad and mouse. You lose so much accuracy and control with gamepads.

Gamepads are better for racing games, fighting games and Platformers. However, you still can buy a gamepad for your PC if needed :D

....I play FPS games on both consoles and PCs regularly, and I have yet to 'never want to touch a gamepad again'.

I also regulary play FPS on both consoles and PC, and I am find using either control method. I will never understand this argument.

There's such a thing as AGP and PCI-E. If your motherboard has AGP then you'd have to buy all new stuff, including RAM because there's much more to it than just 1GB or 2GB. In other words, you'd have to buy a whole new PC.

I upgraded my PC at the end of last year simply because PC gaming is my favourite gaming platform - and I needed some new hardware for my uni course this year.

Upgrading however can be anything from a new video card to total overhaul.

Such a broad term.

It really just boils down to what games you would rather play. PS3 jhonny is going to want that over a new video card, even if the video card is half the price.

AGP is pretty much dead now though - not to mention very old - pretty much died at the end of 2004

If you have an AGP motherboard it would be better to overhaul your system than bothering with an AGP card.

However - hardware is at the cheapest its ever been.

DD2 ram is at bargain prices, the 8800GT eats every game alive - scratch Crysis - and is very well prices, Core 2 Duos are also inexpensive, Quad Cores are very affordable, and motherboards are pretty much the same they have always been.

I dont need to upgrade yet. I really dont!!

I got a 4.5 years old PC with a P4 2.4Ghz 1GBram DDR400 and X800pro. Yeah i know its old.

But you know,I can play almost all new games with this PC yet. I even play COD4 on 1024x768 almost full details with nice Frames. Dont need yet to upgrade. There are only a few new games that cant play (like Crysis). Why to upgrade? :D Just to play on higher resolution or a bit higher frames? Nah i can live with 1024 till next generation CPUs and GPUs arrive.

And then yes ill make an upgrade (after 5 ++years) and play games for another at least 4 years !! :P

The majority of people on this forum are posting on a PC. If so, why not upgrade it, instead of buying a console? I know a lot of people will say "but a gaming PC is too expensive", but that is no longer the case anymore. For only $250 USD (or even less), you can buy an Geforce 8800GT, which can produce graphics that can beat the PS3 and 360. Thats right people, the 8800GT costs the same as a Wii, but beats the graphics of any next-gen console. How can we say that PC gaming is expensive if this is the case? Yeah I know that the graphics card is not the only thing that matters, but apart from that, all you need is 1-2 gigs of RAM along with a mid-range dual core processor in order to compliment a Geforce 8800GT, nothing major. Oh, and don't forget the mouse and keyboard advantage you have over consoles. Not only does PC gaming offer better graphics, better controls, better pricing, but also better online in many situations.

Heres a friendly tip for people who feel that PC gaming is expensive: You don't need to buy a top-of-the-range PC to play Crysis, because this game can have its graphics downscaled to meet your PCs hardware. And guess what? If you play Crysis on "medium low" settings,, the graphics CAN still beat Gears of War on the 360, as well as Uncharted on PS3 :D

As for me, I have been a PC gamer since childhood, but unfortunately I am stuck with a laptop for now, so I cannot upgrade it, although I am saving my money to customise my own desktop for gaming :)

PandaBear86

As much as I completely loe PC gaming and upgrading my computer(Computer engineers get great discounts :D), I still like playing consoles. Now, I certainly don't love them, but the games they offer are great, and when I have friends over for a party, sittin' down with my consoles are all we do if we're going to play games. PC's are great fun to tweak and playon, and consoles are a great, simple way to just plug in and play for casual and hardcore gamers.

I got my PC, early 2005 or late 2004 and it was a good machine then, a 6600GT, it played most games everything on high and when I decided to upgrade some things I found out that I basically have to change everything. This won't be the last time when some new function comes along that won't allow you to replace a new card with your older card because it just won't fit into your motherboard.

How many of these people here actually have a custom built computer that is upgradable? Less than 10%. You cant just go upgrade a dell or a HP.

Consoles are for the people who don't want to worry about specs and upgrading. They don't want to worry about if their PC can run a game smoothly or stuff like that. PC gaming I believe is a bit higher quality, but console gaming keeps closing the gap.

PC gaming is awesome, but console gameing is also awesome. PC gaming brings a whole new set of challenges to the table, many gamers don't see the benifits of dealing with these challenges, the end result just isn't worth it.

Because I enjoy console gamieng more because:

Its more convient

Inexpensive

Not complicated

Been a console gamer since the SNES days and im not not going to change to play a bunch of PC games that will be quite inferior in 4 years or so.

Not many games on the PC are intresting to me (starcraft 2 being the only one)

Yeah I know, but some PC games just don't work with a controller.

For those that have problems about games not working with a controller, there is Xpadder, its a program that's about 265kb it hink that can map any keystroke or click to your gamepad, so with it there are no exceptions not even Windows :P

You know, you're right! Rather than getting a 360, I'll just upgrade my PC! Then I can play all the games except the ones you are FORCED to pay for online play on like Halo 3 &... whatever other exclusive online game 360 has. Then I'll be PS3/Wii/PC - even though I never play the Wii and its glowing orange light watches me balefully as I enjoy my GOOD system!

Very well, though I can imagine SMG being playable on the PC around the same time Halo 3 comes, assuming the Wii's success continues, since its Emulation is similar to the GC, ( so long as you own the original game ).

Mass Effect is very likely even this year, Halo 3 next year.

What makes you interested in Starcraft 2? Wheny our not a PC gamer? that parts confusing.

That goes for alot of people in these threads "the only PC games that interest me is Starcraft 2 & Spore" ... are you all freaking kidding me? if you liked these genres in the first place you would require a PC anyway.

I am intrested in Starcraft 2 because back when my PC was useful I played the crap out of the 1st one and the expansion pack :)

Greatest RTS IMO and I will probably have to get a new laptop when SC2 comes out :( since this old rig cant even play BF 1942 without slow downs :(

Isnt spore coming out on the wii anyways ?

Edit: And I also had very fond memories of playing my brother in vs mode in starcraft 64 aswell :D

Spore Wii & PC will probably be very differnt, putting that aside.

There are so many better RTS games than Starcraft, perfect balance or not, the RTS genre is so much broader now, heck all Strategy games are.

I dont see the big deal about Starcraft 2 ... more of the same, with a high chance that it wont be as well balanced as some games out now let alone its predocessor.

I think alot of console gamers are intrested in starcraft 2 because back in the days SC 1 could be played by almost anyone with windows 95 (sure as hell why I love starcraft ) besides alot of RTS's are ported to the 360 anyways so rthey still have more options to ge different RTS games.

Because I want to play games with friends in addition to total strangers. Most of my friends aren't into PC gaming, and most of them live far away from me since we're no longer in school together. Therefore, the consoles and their online services are the best way to play games together.

Because I want to play games with friends in addition to total strangers. Most of my friends aren't into PC gaming, and most of them live far away from me since we're no longer in school together. Therefore, the consoles and their online services are the best way to play games together. buuzer0

I will not type the usual like

- ease of use

- plug and play

- optimised hardware

- cheap

- PC frustration some times

I will go to the REAL reasons i prefer i have a PS3+360 than a upgraded pc

360 - Fable 2, Mass Effect 1-2-3, Too Human, Cry On, Lost odyssey, Infinite Undisocvery, Alan Wake, Project Offset, Age of Conan, Huxley, Gothic 4, Banjo, Halo Wars, Halo 3, Viva Pinata, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, Ace Combat 6, Overlord, Warhound, Kingdom Under Fire 2: Dominion, Ninja Gaiden 2 etc

PS3 - Final Fantasy 13, FF3vs, White Knight Chronicles, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Wardevil, Killzone 2, Metal Gear 4, Afrika, Angel Rings, Star Ocean 4, Little Big Planet, LA Noire etc etc

PC- Spore, Starcraft 2, Dragon Age

See, 360 gets most PC games i want, and a host of excluisves not on PC, and PS3 a host of its own excluisves, all looking top in graphics, so why go with PC ? When for the price of upgrade, i get a PS3+360 ??? Not for me, thanks

The PC isnt a social platform either it's a single player platform.

Console on the other hand are geard towards having people come together. You will never see people come to your house just wana watch you play crysis on the highest stettings thats boring. Games like rock band and Guitar hero are console specific for the socialization effect it does to people something the PC is lacking.

I agree.. xbox 360 is pretty much mostly titles that are also on the PC..

The ps3 has more exclusives but so does the PC but still there is lots of overlap in titles

the Wii on the other hand is WAY different than any kind of gaming experience and has mostly exclusives.. this is what PC gamers would not be able to experience

Final Verdict

Wii + PC = BEST COMBO THIS GEN to experience everything,

Agreed. And as Jandurin said, this is only part of my reason for choosing to play on consoles instead of PC. Another is time. That is, these days, I'd rather spend my time learning about other things rather than what I need to do to keep X game at the best framerate possible. I just don't have the energy to research driver settings, hardware pricing/compatibility/reviews, hang out on forums for each game (SW is one of the few I bother with, and that's wasting time @ work).

Personally, I would rather spend my time playing games rather than tweaking to play them. But that's just me. I know some people get a lot of joy out of doing the opposite. It's just not for me at this point in my life.

I agree with this:

PC = Mostly single player, most range of games, most in depth games and better online experiance.

Wii = Best Multiplayer Offline experiance, games that suit those around me that are not into the "Hardcore Aimed" games, including family, and female friends, I know thats a generilization, but its often true.

Guitar Hero 3 is on the PC and allows user made songs ;) ironically enough it is a great version.

Thats all opinion I know that but I would never buy a wii. Thats just me. I dont find any of the games appealing to me. There are a few but nothing I would go out and buy a console for. Maybe after a price drop but for right now Im happy with my PC360.

I know Guitar hero is on PC but its certainly not the main platform the console version is seeing as they have the competitions on the 360. Most of the sales are from the console version not the PC version and most people like me playing it in the comfort of there living room instead of looking on a computer screen.

[QUOTE="SolidTy"]Lack of Adventure/Platform games1carus

Okay, let's get one thing sorted out. Adventure games AREN'T on consoles, at all. What you are referring to is the "action adventure" genre, which is completely different. PC owns the adventure market through and through, and saying "Lack of adventure games" is merely wrong.

When I say adventure I mean games like Myst, Broken Sword, Monkey Island, Zork, Sam and Max - these are adventure games, and there's really nothing on consoles that resembles an adventure game at all.

While there hasn't been an adventure game on this generation of consoles, both Syberia and Syberia 2 made it to the xbox, and I think the longest journey may have as well. Heck, there are barely any adventure games on the PC anymore either.
