Probably one of the biggest comebacks in console gaming history imo.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
sales wise not really.
games wise however yes it has, and the catalyst for all that was MGS4. after that AAAAE, there was Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet which were both AAAE.
then with the new year came Killzone 2 and inFAMOUS which were both AAAE, and MLB 09 which was AAA.
I think Sony is definately performing the best when it comes to exclusive titles. Since MGS4 last year theyve been coming out consistantly... with R2 then LBP, Kz2 and infamous, and later this year uncharted 2 and ratchet and clank, next year GT5 and GOW3.(probably missed a few). But yeah I think its pretty impressive, and out performs the 360 and wii greatly in that aspect._Cadbury_yep, exactly.
I agree. I wasn't even going to think about purchasing one when it launched with a 600 dollar price tag and no titles to back it up. I have been wanting one recently, with all the great exclusives it has and the price drop to3-400 dollars isn't too steep. Actually, if I had any money right now, i'd get that bundle for $400 with MGS4 and Killzone 2. I am between jobs right now so i'm broke as hell. :(
Indeed, just over a year and a half ago supporting PS3 would only get you laughed at, who's laughing now?

It only took FEW years. regardless of how long it took, its outperforming the 360 and wii in terms of high quality games at the moment. thats why the TC is calling it a comeback; because at first the PS3 lacked high quality games (minus Uncharted), and then since MGS4 the PS3 has been on a rampage game wise.
Just Wait
The PS3 library didn't become great until 2009, so that makes sense. 2008 actually[QUOTE="mitu123"][QUOTE="walkingdream"]The PS3 library didn't become great until 2009, so that makes sense. 2008 actually Nope, 2009, in 2008, it's 1 AAAA and 2 AAAs, in 2009 it's 1 AAAA, and 4 AAAs. Perspective is everything.
A year ago the PS3 was rolling along. BluRay had defeated HDDVD. PS3 was selling as much in the US as the 360 and had won 3 or 4 months by mid year. Worldwide the PS3 had gained 1.5M to 2.0M units on the 360 and had closed the gap to about 6M units. And MGS4 had just dropped and was selling faster than hotcakes, had amazing reviews and everyone was drooling. The PS3 was unstoppable and the 360 was the doomz.
So, here we are 1 year later. There are some excellent exclusives that have come and gone. But where exactly is the comeback? From where I sit, and I'd say every single analyst and I'd reckon a lot of 3rd party developers, I'd say the comeback has fizzled/slowed. Even Sony themselves have said the last year has been very difficult for them.
'Comeback' yes, 'huge' no.
Legendaryscmt
going from taking nearly a year just to match the exclusives the 360 launched with to almost surpassing its exclusive library is a pretty huge sounding comeback to me.
How is it a comback when sales are slowing and it's still in the 3rd place? I don't think any console has ever made a comeback. The race is always determined in the first couple of years every gen.
The fiercest competition since VCS vs. Inellivision was probably Genesis vs. SNES. Sega pulled a miracle and stood its ground against the Nintendo behemoth till the very end. Ironically they both got slaughtered by Sony in the next two gens.
Seasons change. Don't hold your breath, and good luck grab holding on fanboys to stay afloat.

overall library of ps3 is still lacking a good bit, slapping the "exclusive" tag on it doesn't matter irl. Still a ton of titles on 360 not on ps3 that are AA+[QUOTE="walkingdream"]The PS3 library didn't become great until 2009, so that makes sense. it was great by late 07. i don't care about GS scores. it had some very good games by 2007's end. warhawk, uncharted, motorstorm, ninja gaiden sigma, ratchet and clank future tools of destruction, resistance: fall of man.Just Wait

Could you guys possibly grasp this thread is about games... Is it that hard? Sales sales sales. It's like you ppl rather have a console that sells more each month over one that gets better games. It doesn't need to sell more then the competition to be a better product, it just has to deliver it to the people that did buy it.Perspective is everything.

Sales are important. I still don't get why people try to act like they aren't. Anyway, even if the thread is about games that doesn't mean there isn't room to take different interpretations. From where I'm sitting the PS3 is getting better games but not diversifying its line up enough for me to say that its come back is huge. Best up coming line up? Debatable. Sales, notdebatable which is why people like to discuss them. And we all prefer games to sales, that's obvious.
Yep Sony really delivered with the games after the first couple years. Sony isn't stopping either there are a ton of exclusive games comming out down the road as well such as...
Uncharted 2
GT5
GOW3
Heavy Rain
MAG
WKC
Demon's Souls
Agent
The Last Guardian
R&CF: ACT
FFV XIII
MLB The Show
Just to name a few. :P

It was obvious the TC was talking about games, I still don't get why people pretend they don't understand when a discussion is about games and bring up sales.Probably one of the biggest comebacks in console gaming history imo.

Sony has relied almost entirely on their massive pile of first/second party developers to keep their console alive. That plus the Playstation brand name... They are pretty much that some of their bad decisions didn't hurt them as bad as they could have...
I wouldn't call it a comeback. I would just call it keeping themselves alive against all odds. In terms of games, yeah, it is a comeback. In terms of overall position this generation and their general position as a console... They aren't dead, but they certainly aren't where they would want to be.
Also:
Shame.

Same reason PS3 fans bring up wprldwide sales when we are clearly discussing NDP. Because it suits their argument better.
Sony has made the PS3 very attractive to the core.
It is a great system and they are doing fine even in the sales department.
Their brand name has not really been hurt much even in this gen, the DS is still the definitive icon of console gaming in general (well, just behind the NES controller).

I understand what you mean but horrible example, this board has a tendency to think that NPD represnts the world, during 2008 NPD kept coming in, 360 beating the PS3, sales talk, PS3 doom sales threads, and then at the end of the year we found out the had sold the same amount of consoles, that's reasonable sales talk, talking about games and bringing up sales is just...[QUOTE="ActicEdge"][QUOTE="Eddie-Vedder"][QUOTE="ActicEdge"]

Its been established NDP is America. Even so, it really doesn't change the fact that in every NDP thread PS3 fans never discuss the sales and always bring up worldwide sales (without links) like everybody doesn't already know. The point is when yo are not in a favourable situation you change the topic. Its not reasonable for every NDP thread to be infested with NA =/= the world. We all know it. The same way when we are discussing games its non sense to bring up sales. (without context)
Yes , they went from last place worldwide to last place world wide , what a comeback. Almost as prolific as Bill Clinton taking the state of Arkansas from the bottem third of education in the US to the middle third, pretty impressive for having a total poulation equal to the city of Chicago...
