Sony doesn't give a **** about gaming, they just want peopl to buy blu-ray players. The use of the Cell processor is stone proof of what Sony had in mind this generation.

motorstorm and resistance did sale millions two best selling ps3 games right now.

only reason we said wait until 08 was because all the big games that we thought were coming this year got pushed back like gta 4, mgs 4, and ffxiii. do you see the problem with your post?

Who had the best E3?

Edit* and I dont even feel like linking the combined sales of Motorstorm and Rfom but believe me it's no millions, combined they are around 1.2 or 1.3M.

what? resistance has sold 2 million copies while motorstorm has reached 1 million i don't know where you got your numbers from... i would give you a link but i'm sure if you just did a quick search on google you could find the info yourself.

Way to dodge the fact you got owned on the E3 comment. Typical cow....

you know sony dosnt care right? they still have a huge fan base that is either getting the ps3, or there waiting to get it.

G10mgs4

But see, that's the point. They DO care. If they didn't care that so many Sony loyalists (often nicknamed PS2 owners) have jumped ship, they wouldn't be in business right now. Wake up and look at reality here, we the consumer choose whether or not Sony stays in business. They BETTER care.

Yea, I'm just a little skeptical though. I'll probably pick it up and let you know.

Skeptical? Halo 2 was one of the best games of last generation...

Lol, but it got boring for me (and I played it for a total of less than 2 weeks when I was on vacation at my cousin's house). That's why I'm a tad skeptical.

go come back to the dark side sometime soon. These next gen game consoles are still premature so do go think sony is going to give ps3 all the attention. Their gonna give the ps2 buyers their moneys worth.

Bro, Gamestop isn't indicative of gaming sales in general. When the PS3 dropped in price it rose 2800% on Amazon.com, yet failed to outsell the 360 in July.

Just as the topic title states, Sony is in trouble. Why? Because Sony themselves have swayed me to the 360 this generation. ME of all people, a cow since as long as I can remember (when the PSX released). And believe me, it wasn't Microsoft who swayed me. It wasn't Bioshock. It wasn't Gears. It wasn't any of that. It's been Sony's own actions that have caused me to lose faith and abandon my cow brethern and run to the lemming pack. Make no mistake though, I'm not a lemming. Far from it actually. I point out Microsoft's faults as well, they don't get a free pass when it comes to the plethora of issues such as hardware problems, tons of microtransations, not enough actual EXCLUSIVE titles that aren't on the PC.

But what really upsets me is that Sony built a console with almost NOTHING going for it when it comes to appealing to developers save for the Blu-Ray disc capacity. And even that can be a problem considering the fact that it's accompanied by longer load times.

Think about it...

-Cell/RSX's complex and unorthodox architecture require refined coding techniques that developers have to LEARN while Microsoft has provided architecture that works similar to a PC allowing games to be made easier. This results in longer loading times and higher production costs

-Sony has priced their product MUCH higher than the competition (in fact, you can buy an Xbox 360 and Wii for less than a PS3). This means less people will be able to afford the games even if they have a PS3 and will be wary on which ones to choose.

-Sony's install base is the lowest of all the next-gen consoles meaning the greatest chance of floppage sales wise results in money lost.

I think some people have forgotten that the gaming industry, like everything else, is about making MONEY. Developers aren't busting their asses for years to make a great game for you to play and that's it, they want it to sell boat loads.

Why would a developer want to take such financial risk and pick the worst candidate (in their eyes) to make exclusive games for? Maybe this is why so many multiplat games are being delayed on the PS3 or outright canned altogether? Maybe this is why Sony has lost so much exclusivity?

Financially, it makes sense when you put yourself in the shoes of the developer and we as gamers benefit from developers' trust and faith in a console. Every gaming system is only as good as the games that are on it and developers are the people who make the games. Developers ultimately dictate whether a console falls flat on its face or succeedes and at this point, Sony has done just about every possible to make developers LOSE faith in them.

I can go on and on but I'm just so disappointed at this point. The PS3 really has potential, however, slowly but surely it seems that the potential will never fully be utilized. Hopefully Sony can pull through.

SergeantSnitch

Dude you take yourself way too seriously, I can understand if you were like Luc Besson or Steven Spielberg or hell even Uwell Bowe but your just some random dude. Who cares about you? You can abandon games all together and it wouldn't make a lick of difference to Sony or anyone else for that matter.

You're not important, sorry but somebody had to tell you.

The 360 also has games coming in 2008...

Anyone who says that any system is flawless is lying to themselves. Anyone who says any system is dead/dying/worthless is lying to themselves.

Wake up and game, not nit-pick about any of them. THey all do have great games, and they all will keep getting great games (along with plenty of terrible ones too)!

i never said it didn't but why would i waste my time with a system where 95% of the games are not even exclusive to it and all the interesting ones to me can be had on another platform where it has alot more interesting games.

Sounds like the PS3. :D

My comment was in relation to the quote...

It was why developers don't care about making great games but rather technical showpieces like Lair, because they know ignorant gamers out there will buy their games regardless... And guess what.. they are right.

while ms did win more awards for their games it not that amazing. it only beat the ps3 by 3 awards. If you seen the press conferences and what people were saying about Sony then its obvious they had the best e3. Ms didn't have a wow factor at e3. They only showed games that are also on the ps3 and couldn't even really hype their biggest game halo or any other first party..

You've gotta hand it to sony though......i mean it couldn't have been easy to completely tarnish such a huge brand name and go from a distant 1st place to a distant last. All they had to do was release a fancier ps2 at a decent price and they would have had this generation won.

Wii60 indeed. im sure the 3 people who bought a ps3 are happy with their purchase.

don't get me wrong, i'd much rather see sony successful than ms, just not with that horrible ps3.

It has a nice lineup in the future, but it has gotten off to a rocky start. I think Sony is worried that if they lower the price of the PS3 too much, PS2 sales will suffer. And they're probably right.

Having said that, they'll need to drop the PS3 price considerably in 2008, because there is a plethora of standout titles arriving next year for the system, so it's going to be a big year, and I think everyone will change their opinions on Sony fairly quickly.

-Renegade

So then basically, wait for 08'?

Wait for E3

Wait for Lair

Wait for 08

Wait for MGS

Wait for Heavenly Sword

Wait, Wait, Wait... Flop, Flop, Flop.

when they come you will be singing a different tune. this is just too funny to me. next year the tides will turn and there will be alot less lemmings around.

Funny, I remember people saying that in 2006.

@TC: You've made a great choice. The 360 just has such an incredible library I ******* love it. What can I say? Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bio-Shock, Crackdown, Saint's Row, Banjo-Kazooie 3, Halo Wars, Oblivion, GRAW, PDZ, and so much more. I once seriously considered buying all three main consoles, because for last gen I have all three and they all have great exclusive games. But then I saw, this gen, PS3 has no good exclusives, and the Wii's only good titles aren't exclusive either, they're either Gamecube ports or cancelled Gamecube games. I'd never spend $600 for an empty library except for the multi-plats that exist on the 360 already(and are also better on that platform).

1. Halo 3

2. Medal of Honor Airborne

3. Hellgate London

4. The Sims 2 Bon Voyage

5. Stranglehold

6. Lair

Lair is only the top selling game for PS3.

Great post TC. I agree with pretty much everything you said. Thank you for not blindly switching sides either. Being a fanboy of any kind really only hurts you in the long run. Keeping an open mind allows you to have more diverse, fulfilling experiences that can never be offered by only one platform. Its good to see logic in system wars.

I don't know why you're complaining. Can you watch Hitch on 360? How about 300? PS3: worth every cent.HermitCommando

I like playing games on my consoles not movies. Even if I had a PS3 it would be a gaming machine for me not a blu ray player.

So go enjoy watching.....hitch? lol

Well in fact he's not "just some random dude". He described the very reasons for why I also jumped over to the 360 after waiting and waiting and waiting....

I'm sorry to say it, as Sony has done so much for the gaming industry, but they really have dropped the ball this gen. and all because of another format war, that not only will be obsolete in a few years but will *never* attain the same market presence that the DVD has (DD will come before then).

It seems it is rather important to you for you to not only seem so angry about it but you also read thru it and responded.

Also I think anyone not buying a PS3 at this point would make a huge lick of difference to Sony at this point. From a huge king of the hill to dead last I think Sony cares about anyone not buying their new console.

Yeah but he's not famous, we all know that if you're not famous your opinions don't matter. Now if were say Jessica Alba then Sony would be doomed.

Jesus H christ, some of you posters

TC: "It's been Sony's own actions that have caused me to lose faith and abandon my cow brethern and run to the lemming pack"

dont say "oooh sony have dropped the ball, ohhh nnnooo the format war" F*** the format war. Games are the reason and should be the sole reason for choosing a system . Even if sony loses the war mgs4 isn't going to dissapear, nor are any of the other titles that ps3' owners are waiting for. You'll get them before sony explodes or whatever

if you're saying the 360 line-up impressed you more that's cool, but dont act like you're dissapointed in a souless corporation.

Games and nothing else should be the core reason why you choose a system, if you prefer 360's line-up and that's your point cool, but if the sad fact is that you can't wait (worst reasons ever imo, i've been waiting for mass effect for an AGE)and you're dissapointed in sony (ugh) then that's just pathetic.

The guy above was right people take themselves too seriously. They take this war far too seriously as well and just blindly ignore things that haven't changed. For example, if you started wanting the ps3 becauseof it's line up; heads up dudes that hasn't changed.

if you can't wait and you're dissapointed in sony stop crying and buy whatever console isn't dissapointing you

If lair was your only reason, lol you shouldda "switched sides" a loooooooooooong timeago.

I have to admit, it really suprised me reading this from you. We have debated on opposite sides of the fence more than once. Congrats on getting a 360. You have an ***load of great games to play now, and even more to come. Here are a few to keep an eye on in 2008:

You are sooo wrong, it's you and I as consumers that decide in the long run if companies products succeed or fail. If a console doesn't sell it will be discontinued, it's as simple as that.

---Games are the reason and should be the sole reason for choosing a system.---

Precisely, and that's why I waited along with a number of my friends to see which platform was going to take the market majority. Once it was clear that one of the 3 was more interested in selling a blue-ray player than a games console then the choice was that much easier.
