Just as the topic title states, Sony is in trouble. Why? Because Sony themselves have swayed me to the 360 this generation. ME of all people, a cow since as long as I can remember (when the PSX released). And believe me, it wasn't Microsoft who swayed me. It wasn't Bioshock. It wasn't Gears. It wasn't any of that. It's been Sony's own actions that have caused me to lose faith and abandon my cow brethern and run to the lemming pack. Make no mistake though, I'm not a lemming. Far from it actually. I point out Microsoft's faults as well, they don't get a free pass when it comes to the plethora of issues such as hardware problems, tons of microtransations, not enough actual EXCLUSIVE titles that aren't on the PC.

But what really upsets me is that Sony built a console with almost NOTHING going for it when it comes to appealing to developers save for the Blu-Ray disc capacity. And even that can be a problem considering the fact that it's accompanied by longer load times.

Think about it...

-Cell/RSX's complex and unorthodox architecture require refined coding techniques that developers have to LEARN while Microsoft has provided architecture that works similar to a PC allowing games to be made easier. This results in longer loading times and higher production costs

-Sony has priced their product MUCH higher than the competition (in fact, you can buy an Xbox 360 and Wii for less than a PS3). This means less people will be able to afford the games even if they have a PS3 and will be wary on which ones to choose.

-Sony's install base is the lowest of all the next-gen consoles meaning the greatest chance of floppage sales wise results in money lost.

I think some people have forgotten that the gaming industry, like everything else, is about making MONEY. Developers aren't busting their asses for years to make a great game for you to play and that's it, they want it to sell boat loads.

Why would a developer want to take such financial risk and pick the worst candidate (in their eyes) to make exclusive games for? Maybe this is why so many multiplat games are being delayed on the PS3 or outright canned altogether? Maybe this is why Sony has lost so much exclusivity?

Financially, it makes sense when you put yourself in the shoes of the developer and we as gamers benefit from developers' trust and faith in a console. Every gaming system is only as good as the games that are on it and developers are the people who make the games. Developers ultimately dictate whether a console falls flat on its face or succeedes and at this point, Sony has done just about every possible to make developers LOSE faith in them.

I can go on and on but I'm just so disappointed at this point. The PS3 really has potential, however, slowly but surely it seems that the potential will never fully be utilized. Hopefully Sony can pull through.

Welcome to salvation, seriously, Sony has some of the best designers and hardware quality EVER! - but the business side of things is run by complete d**cks - they really have no clue and they are SOLEY to blame for the PS3s failure.

Is Huxley still being hyped? Eww. What trash.

To be on topic. Three things I think Sony needs;

1) PR that isn't bat**** crazy.
2) Drop the price. Stop attempting to provide more 'value', just drop the goddamn price. Making the console more accessible would probably do wonders for their publicity and in term = sales = game sales = moar games.
3) Go the MS route. Not shoddy hardware, but buying people out. Buying more development studios, buying exclusivity. Those types of things. At the moment there's nothing really going for the PS3.

Here's hoping TGS will provide something of worth, if not I'm going PC gamer for '08.

I don't know why you're complaining. Can you watch Hitch on 360? How about 300? PS3: worth every cent.HermitCommando

 So now PS3 is just a movie player? OK

I think there is too much hullaballo over microtransactions. To date the number of times I've paid for additional content - zero.

To address this: 1)Every companies PR team has a few 'out there' quotes. 2)They already did. 3)You want Sony to try and monopolize the gaming industry?

I believe his intention was to point out the extra value of paying $499.

Thats the point EXACTLY. Although I am pretty sure I can watch 300 on my 360, I....DONT....WANT....TO! I want to PLAY GAMES, for crying out loud! THATS why I bought a 360! Good grief, when are some of you guys going to get it through your head that this is a gaming system, and most folks dont give a rip what kind of MOVIES it can play? Jeez....
