You might as well stop hyping Fallout 3.

I just have a gut feeling that since its multiplat (pc, 360, ps3) that no matter what the game is like you'll get pc gamers complaining that its been "consolized" or "noobified" just like with Oblivion, UT3 and other games.

I just can see this happening. I remember how many hardcore pc gamers were hyping oblivion to the moon and then look what happened.

All I'm saying is if you're going to hype it, hype it with restraint and caution.

Oblivion wasn't as good as Morrowind but it was still damn good and I put 120 hours into it. I'll enjoy Fallout 3 on PC regardless if it's consolish.

yeah but some of the hate it receives is unfounded. words used to describe it such as horrible, terrible, complete crap are just wrong. I was reading all this stuff in another thread which is what made me start this one. It might not be as good as its predecessors but its still good. So basically the same rules apply with fallout 3. I am already anticipating the pc backlash months after the game is out.

Oblivion has a user score of 9.3 here on GS. So it would seem that PC gamers like it quite a bit. It's mostly SW PC gamers that toss out the hate.

I guess you never go to Bethesdas forums then. There was a time where the Morrowind pwns Oblivion, and Oblivion sucks threads were everywhere. Thankfully we have the Oblivion vs Morrowind threads now only, and the results are always the same. Oblivion is bashed.

I guess you never seen what real TES fans think(me included)

You'll still get to mod with the PC version of Fallout 3, so it doesn't really matter. Fallout 3 is going to be awesome. This is probably the only game that will be able to give GTA 4 a run for the money for GOTY 2008.

I don't think that Oblivion is a crap game, but unmodded vanilla oblivion leaves much to be desired, especially if you have played Morrowind for a long time. Fortunately the community got right to business, and fixed many of Oblivion's flaws. I still think Morrowind is better though.

As for Fallout 3, I'm not sure but I know the fallout fans are crazy. In a bad way too. They hate bethesda basically.

No big deal. Oblivion is still a great game, just when compared to Morrowind it lacks in areas.

Btw, is that PC in your sig yours? It looks awesome. Love the watercooling.

Honestly, who cares what some people think? If it's console-ified, then that's great for console owners. And PC owners? It's not like they'd be getting a shoddy game anyways.

Starcraft 2 will be a great game. Starcraft was also a great game, but was completely overshadowed by other great games that year. This is the same year that games like Half Life, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda: OoT, Unreal, Baldur's Gate, Fallout 2, Grim Fandango, and any others came out. 1998 is considered one of the best years for video gamers.

Ironically, 10 years later I see the exact same scenario. We're going to see some amazing games launch this year. I think Starcraft 2 will be a great game, but it's going to get over shadowed by other games. There are not enough players in the US to generate a huge buzz for this game.

Fallout 3 should be called Oblivion Fallout or something. Fallout series is entirely different. Gotta wonder why Bethesda picked the franchise if they were going to turn it into Oblivion with guns and not cater to the series fans.

I'm happy they have brought the franchise back but dissapointed that they are basically making it a futuristic Oblivion. I can't really blame them as Oblivion made them a ton of money and the original Fallout games were actually quite niche but it still sucks.

I've been following the developer interviews and they just don't get what made Fallout great. Plus it is going to be limited by the console hardware but meh, we'll see how it turns out even if my gut feel tells me it's already ruined.

They just wanted to tag the game with a 'classic' franchise title. So many people will buy it on the name alone when they see it in store. Vanilla Oblivion sucked monkey balls so heres hoping they allow mods and the community fixes it for us :).

Played Oblivion..120 in...conclusion rubbish RPG and boring gam4e.I played games 15 years old that is better rpg than this simplied game.

List goes on why the is a bad rpg and why is a bad game. Its a bag game, backed up with facts

Maybe they shouldnt have spend more than half a million on Patrick steward 10 minute cameo and invested it gameply.

You should head to the Fallout 3 forum where the hate is even stronger..

And this rubbish about "sane" fallout fan is not true. I hated oblivion before i found out these jokers where developing Fallout 3

Oblivion =good game for people that havent played an WRPG or console users. Bad game for people who have 6 or more Wrpg under their belt specially if you played Fallout, baldur's gate or Torment

When Dragon Age comes out, lets compare which one has deeper RPG elements

Wait, what!? You're happy that the industry pictures console gamers as simpletons who will only buy games based on graphics and hype, regardless if a game has any depth or content?

And PC owners? It's not like they'd be getting a shady game anyways.HeroOfCows

It's as Beth is describing it, it's freak'in "Oblivion with guns." It will be anything but great.

The big problem is that the old Fallout fans would hate on F3 even if it was made by the original developer instead of Bethesda.
Fans of the series are probably expecting to much on this game and will probably be disappointed however the game is made.
Bethesda is playing with the emotions of a 10 year old franchise and the fans is obviously going to have a biased opinion on it,
it doesn't matter if F3 becomes the best Fallout ever the hardcore fans will hate on Bethesda anyway because of the things they wanted to see in it that wasn't even in the original games. If black Isle would come back and remake the two first games and the only changes will be better graphics and audio quality the hardcore fans would hate on it and claim that the game has lost it's charm. What I'm trying to say is that the fans are expecting to much and have already started hating on the game so the smallest flaw would be blown up to huge problems, this game can't succeed to please It's fans even if it was the best fallout ever to come out.

Nonsense, the majority of fans liked what they saw from Van Buren

Fans hate FO3 because it doesn't resemble previous games much, it doesn't feel like sequel, more liek some random post apocalyptic RPG that just happened to have Fallout name sticked on it. Fans will hate it because it will lack many of the things that made them fans of original Fallout in the first place

I wouldent go crazy with the hype.

Im exited about it, but a bit cynical at the same time.

Personally I dont want a Fallout game to turn out like Oblivion - because its nothing like what the series is, but I am intrested in seeing how it turns out.

I strongly suggest that fans of the series would go and play the games today instead of having a 10 year old memory of it that is clearly biased.

Have you played Fallout 1 and 2?

For a 10 year old memory its certainly much better than the vast majority of RPGs nowdays....

No I have not played them.

I don't see what that has anything to do with my point.

When you haven't played the game in 10 years and you loved it last time you will be biased on it, you block out all the bad things on it and only remember the things you loved about it.

You have to agree that making a sequel to an old and great franchise you will work against all the expectation the fans have had on a sequel in the last ten years. Will Bethesda make a future oblivion of it? Probably. Would Black isle do it the way the fans want it? doubtful.

No I actually started playing the series last year - Fallout 1 and 2, and they are increadable games, and even by todays standards as role playing games they are amazing.

If you havent played the games you wouldent understand why you would be so worried of what Bethseda might do with the IP.

Oblivion wasent a role playing game. It was an action fantasy game attempting to sell itself as an rpg. Fallout is well known for being one of the best role playing games, and still is today. To see it become an action game like Oblivion would defy the point of it being a sequal, rather just a tacked on name to sell copies - like Fallout Brotherhood of Steel on the PS2.

[QUOTE="JLF1"]The big problem is that the old Fallout fans would hate on F3 even if it was made by the original developer instead of Bethesda.
JLF1

Nonsense, the majority of fans liked what they saw from Van Buren

Fans hate FO3 because it doesn't resemble previous games much, it doesn't feel like sequel, more liek some random post apocalyptic RPG that just happened to have Fallout name sticked on it. Fans will hate it because it will lack many of the things that made them fans of original Fallout in the first place

Typical apologiest!!What is the point of your little rant when you dont even have a clue what we are worried about? and to make things worse you havent played games..how would you understand our concerns the? Most of the RPG cant hold a candle to fallout

main things

1)No turn based..it was a turned based game and now is not. Vats is not turned based!!
2)One of the strongest elements in Fallout was dialogue and by looking at Bethesda's crap record of Oblivion,we have a big problem. Multiple ways to solve quests.
3)No iso
4)Dark Humor-Bethesda take on dark humor is ripping somone head and taking to it. Thats not Fallouts take

List goes on

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Very smart to personally attack me in your first sentence. If this would have been real life you would have already lost the debate.

What rant? All I'm saying is that fans of the franchise have been looking forward for a sequel for years and then Bethesda comes in and ruins it all. The point is that fans have already doomed this game before it's even out because of Bethesda's previous trackrecord.

I have to ask you, do you think Black Isle would have made this game the way you really wanted it?

The only thing missing is that you start blaming consoles for the fall of the franchise.

Of course it will be dulled down. I knew the moment I saw it not to hype it at all.

Isometric perspective, dialogue system based on stats, turn-based combat, FO's atmosphere and ****it's just generic PA now, no more ironic retro feel) , lack of respect for setting (handheld nuclear launchers...arghh) this coupled with Bethsoft usual problems (crappy writing, weak quests systems... etc... Bethsofthasn' shown so far FO3 will be better than Oblivion in those areas) .. and you wonder why fans hate it

I actualy do..and they still blow everything Bethsoft has ever made away and most likely FO3 also will be worse

I have to ask you, do you think Black Isle would have made this game the way you really wanted it?

JLF1

Yes. We played Van Buren tech demo and despite it being very early it was a true Fallout game. Of course nobody would be 100% satisfied (afterall even Fallout1 didn't satisfy all Westlands fans), but it was much closer to "what we wanted" than FO3 looks like,

Heck..judging by Troik ' track record as well as their short tech movie their PA RPG also would be closer to real Fallout than FO3 will be

Yea.... that pretty much sums up my grievances in a nutshel....

But even things like a 3rd person perspective rather than isometric I could accept just fine, but things like raping the games setting, dialouge options and reative world really goes over the line.
