I bought three 6TB drives for backups. Gonna add a 4th backup to my cycle for extra safety. I already got all the games i have time for this year. Probably buy a 120-500gb ssd also if i see one on sale but not sure yet.
How loud are they? i got a 4tb drive and that thing sounds like a god dam drill. Was thinking about ditching it and buy some 6tb drives.
I haven't yet got these specific drives but i have some WD 6tb drives previously. The western digital i have are very quiet, near silent. Seagate are quite a bit cheaper but nearly every Seagate drive i've bought in the past has clicked and scares the crap out of me hearing this and they are only still useful as a redundant backup. I will gladly pay more for western digital for more reliable drive. Also looking at the statistics some of these backup centers release every year, you can see the Seagate have higher failure rates.
That 4tb u got may have some serious problems. I'd make sure that isn't your primary backup because it sounds like it could die at any moment. Most modern hard drives should be very quiet.
I have a couple weird drives that even when idle make a sound similar to when files are being copied, no idea if its just reorganizing data or somethings wrong with them but they are the only noisy ones i have. It could be just some buggy firmware causing the drive to shift data around more than necessary. Not a big deal mostly since they are only online for a few hours during a backup then put away.
Ah ty, yea its a seagate. Thing already did it from day one. So as its filling up i have to replace it anyway. Will look for WD drives this time. thanks.
