What are your guyses most breathtaking, or rather, greatest "Aww Snap!" moments in video games?

For me, my favorite moment was when you exited that sewer pipe thing in Half Life to the booming sound of the jet planes flying over the canyon.

Also, the moment u exit the tutorial dungeons in Far Cry and Oblivion you were introduced to some ridiculously vast and beautiful landscapes.

Some more great moments of awe are the day/night cycle in Far Cry 2, the critical headshot in RE4, some levels in PoP sands of time were crazy, and the donut-shaped ice planet in SMG where u can skate around to catch the penguin and do the quintuple axle twist extending into the planet's orbit. sick.

The beginning of Dead Space, All of Resident Evil 4, Mankar Camoran's Paradise in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (and the first time I set foot in the Shivering Isles), the South America level of MGS4, the beginning of Metroid Prime (and Prime 2), All of Half Life 2, and many more. Though, those are my favorite.

the giygas battle in earthbound

i was about 8 or 9 years old, it was my first rpg ever, i was EXTREMELY sucked into the game, it was something about the music adn the visuals of giygas along with being completely sucked into the game and having put dozens and dozens of hours into it within my first playthrough made it so epic

I was kinda slow with the online co-op, multiplayer stuff. So my most breathtaking moment was when I first played Gears of War Co-op with one of my buddies. After We finished the game....I thought to myself "wow...now gamers can be a slouch on their own couch" and you dont have to worry about your friends wifey yelling about spilling beer and leaving crumbs in the living room.

My first major ones was raiding in Everquest. There would be times we would have around 80 people all gathered from different guilds. At first I would just sit back in aw and think" Holy crap look at all these people" then I would really be in awe when the fight happened. Also after years of playing WoW I am still in awe just running around sometimes. WoW may not be the best graphic wise as far as textures and such but it is the best atmosphere game there is.

Also in FEAR (FrozenLiquid, please forgive me), there was one particular moment where I shot a guy with my shotgun and he was torn apart in such a fashion that a huge splash of blood on the backing wall. My first reaction was "Good lord, did I DO THAT?!" It was something that seemed like it was fit for cinematics, but no. It was pure gameplay.

Outside on the planet in KOTOR where there are huge ancient ships plunging out of the ocean and it's a literal graveyard of old ships (name?). And Halo:CE the 2nd level when you walk out of your pod, look left, and see the massive ring going into the sky. Therfe are lots of others too.

Most recently:

Fallout 3: Leaving the vault. Also the second last quest was hilariously awesome.

Resistance 2: First sight of the leviathan and the sighting of the fleet over San Fransico. Pretty impressive.

MGS 4: No comment. (Play it for your self!)

Heavenly Sword: The last battle. So many enemies, so little time :(.

GeoW 2: The worm.

But as for all time, I'm not really sure. Right now I will go with:

Bioshock: The twist. Shame it went down hill from there. Just killed the game for me after that.

By mentioning the Lucifer, you reminded me of the first time I entered the nebula in Freespace 2. That place felt so...eerie. And the first time you see the Sathanas is amazing as well :)

Funny thing about MGS4 is that it has a LOT of those kinds of moments. :P

The motorcycle chase in Act 3 of MGS4 for certain. The Crying Wolf boss battle too. Then there was finding out the true nature of Screaming Mantis after fighting her.

Oh yeah I forgot. Mass Effect.
Meeting Sovereign on the planet Virmire was epic, as well as running into Saren shortly after that. Also, the rest of the game after you've met the Prothean contruct Vigil was totally breathtaking.
The stunning views you see in Uncharted are pretty breathtaking, especially the part where you climb up the cliff to get on top of the German U-boat. Awesome!

Also Far Cry 2, some nice visual moments in that too.

When I saw that, I felt so...doomed. The greatest that humanity had to offer was destroyed with ease by one ship out of many. The sense of doom was so strong that it was oppressive.

Hmm:

-The 13th Colossus in SOTC. When I realized you had to ride parallel and jump onto the wings OFF of the horse...my mind was blown. That sequence was more thrilling than most movies.

-Coming out of the sewer in Oblivion.

-All of Half-Life 2. Also, the sequence in Episode 2 where you are in the house and all of a sudden you see the Hunters looking through the windows and hear them surrounding the house...I never have gotten so nervous in a game. Every Hunter fight was so intense. And of course the opening and closing, which were just very shocking to me.

-The Embassy exploding in GRAW. So loud my house shook.

-Gears of War 2--The Worm. Also when you are driving the...whatever that was, and it breaks down in the dark cavern and the lights go out. When the lights turn back on...my jaw dropped.

-Bioshock-Seeing Rapture for the first time and the twist.

And I really need to get a PS3 w/ MGS4!!

Leaving the sewers in Oblivion did it for me. Visiting some of the vast levels in Banjo Kazooie/Tooie for the first time were some of my finer 'breathtaking' moments when I was younger though.

The first quarter and last quarter of Mass Effect, the middle was meh. Oh, and the battle to get to the Citadel in Half Life 2, freaking amazing.

And, of course, coming out of the sewers in Oblivion.

Attacking the SSD Executor in X-wing: Alliance

The armored train level of Medal of Honor: Frontline

The Volga-crossing sequence on your way to Stalingrad in Call of Duty
