Oh c'mon, you know you'd vote it for best boat/car driving sequences in video game history.

Hell no. Especially to that sh1t.

Seriously. Both sequences wear out their welcome pretty early.

How long is Spelunky?

It's pretty short, actually. But it's so difficult and replayable that it'll take you a while to actually beat it. Technically it's 16 levels with several secret ones, but no two levels are ever the same if (or when) you happen to die.

I decided to go through all my indie sh1t and installed all of them. Figured I'd lump in my 360/PSN stuff as well. Trying to get the short ones out of the way quickly. From the sounds of it Spelunky is more middle of the pack in length so I should save it for a bit.

BTW: Trials Evolution is f*cking crack. I wanted to save that for later, but I keep going back to it for punishment ; (

Super Meat Boy is so amazing. To think that game came out in the same year as Mario Galaxy 2. F*cking platforming bliss. Get Evolution. Don't even bother with HD. Evolution from what I've read up is that game but with way more content and variety, and user generated stuff. Some of these community tracks are just d1ck.

Look, I know that in these threads people just choose the games that are the most critically acclaimed and say they are overrated. But Chrono Trigger really?... How can a game that does so much right possibly be overrated... Final Fantasy 6?... I know we all have opinions, but sometimes they have to be wrong haha...

Chrono Cross is superior to trigger in everyway but loading times.

6 is far from the best in the series but is heralded as the best.

I agree that Chrono Cross is superior, but they are both masterpieces in my book.

Anyway, my choice is God of War. The combat is so mind-numbingly boring.

I also don't get what people see in Klonoa. Got it on Wii and I had to return it because it was such a sleeping pill.

They add far more than 20 Pokemon, but I agree with the gist of what you're saying. Pokemon is one of the most shamefully rehashed franchises out there. I mean, it's a damn good RPG with a lot to see and do, but there's only so many times one can play the same thing without getting tired of it.

I would try it, but Klonoa 2 on PS2 costs more than I'm willing to pay for a sequel to a game I thought was intensely boring.

Thanks for proving my point, nothing but over hyperbolic dribble talk associated with this game. It's a good game, but it's not great. It has tonnes of problems and isn't even the best MGS game. Saying it's the ebst this gen is big talk considering some of the other well made heavy weights that we got

seanmcloughlin

It suffers from what may be the most convoluted piece-of-sh!t story I have ever come across in gaming. I couldn't stand a few of the characters and a lot of the cheesiness. And then there's the cut-scenes...

MGS3 quite honestly pisses all over it in terms of gameplay (I preferred many of the gameplay mechanics), story, characters, boss fights, music. It also has a perfect balance between actual gameplay and drawn out cut-scenes.

I still very (!) much enjoyed MGS4 but in many ways, it pales in comparison to its predecessor.

EDIT: The Boss is the best female game character of all time.

Well at least you're not completely stupid

Only partially then?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1and 2 Assassins Creed 1 and 3 The Halo franchise as a whole And the most over rated to me is Gears of War! I have never played a more boring and restrictive shooter in my life! Gears of War entails everything that is wrong with this industry: From the boring and repetitious pop and shoot only gameplay in Gears, to the ectreme linearity in Gears, which never suites any purpose or reaps any benefits, to the terrible writing, to the uninspired and poor level design, to the generic characters, to the cringe worthy "stories," to the clunky and unresponsive controls, to the brown and dark color platte of the game etc.... I could go on and on about the many face first blunders of Gears! Gears is one aweful and poorly exectued cliche on top of another! Of Gears' many fails here are two big fails Gears tries to be a story driven game, but fails miserable. You are always watching cut scenes in Gears too. They take control away from the player often Thats why I love Uncharted so much, becuase in Uncharted you are PLAYING the cut scenes instead etc As opposed to Gears which has you watching cut scenes etc Gears ONLY HAS ONE type of gameplay mechanic. Its all gunplay, and thats it. SO the one thing Gears does, it doesnt even do that well For example i find Vanquish, Max Payne, Infamous, Uncharted to have better gun play mechanics then Gears. Now add the fact that Gears has some of the most shallow and repetitous shooting segments of any shooter out there Go to one lauguably placed cover in the environment, pop out and shoot, then go to the next lauguably placed cover in the environment...and thats all you are doing through out its 5-7 hour boring campaign. Rinse and repeat until add nasuem occurs Gears of War is the single worst big budget video game franchise I have ever played I loath Cliffy B for creating such an aweful, restrictive, generic, cliche, and boring series in Gears of War Gears of War is utter garbage to me. Lackluster and repetitive gameplay. No diversity. The game is very static. The controls are wonky. Its attempt at having stories is down right laughable etc I cant say one good thing about the Gears franchise, other then...that yeah in 2006 its graphics were considered top notch I wish Gears of War would just die out as a series already Gears of War is the very epitome of generic garbage

Shadow of the Colossus-I was not a fan of the gameplay and while the idea of the whole game consisting of boss battles was unique, it got repetitive after a while.

GTA IV-I tried playing this for 2 hours and the missions felt repetitive and the controls weren't great.

Uncharted 2-The story and dialogue were great but the gameplay was mediocre at best. The puzzles were too easy, there was too much climbing, and the shooting was mindless.

God of War-felt like a button masher and was frustrating at parts, such as the spiked tower near the end.

New Super Mario Brothers-Huge disappointment. Too short and easy of a game and felt like a rehash.

Stringerboy

They didn't actually playtest that part of the game, I remember them saying it in one of the making-of videos.

That doesn't surprise me at all, it was awfully designed lol

Agreed Uncharted 3 as its own stand alone game was a brilliant game, but I guess because it wasnt the improvement over part 2, that part 2 was over part 1, some wrote it off Huge mistake! All the Uncharted games have been fantastic! Some liked the first one the best. A lot liked the second one the best. Nearly just as many liked the third one the best etc Thats just a testament to how truly great, and different enough- each game in the series has been! Having to decide between Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 is like having to decide between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi The ONLY correct answer is that BOTH were awesome! Both Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 were awesome! They made for great entries into an awesome series in Uncharted! Thats the only way it should be looked at

Its attempt at having stories is down right laughable etc I cant say one good thing about the Gears franchise, other then...that yeah in 2006 its graphics were considered top notch I wish Gears of War would just die out as a series already Gears of War is the very epitome of generic garbagebrofists

Shadow of the Colossus-I was not a fan of the gameplay and while the idea of the whole game consisting of boss battles was unique, it got repetitive after a while.

It just felt like "use sword light to find boss, get onto boss, find symbol and stab 3 spots" 16 times over again. Not my cup of tea :P

They didn't actually playtest that part of the game, I remember them saying it in one of the making-of videos.

That doesn't surprise me at all, it was awfully designed lol

I dare you to attempt to buttom mash your way through Choas mode in God of War You simply wont be able to! You will be chewed up and spit out alive by the A.I Anyway, God of War has some of the best combat in the biz. Especially God of War 3. God of War 3 is primere hack and slash combat Easy to use yet very satisfying to master Theres a dept to its combat that all depends on how much you are willing to dive into that dept etc. Plus the combat is so responsove and visceral. Pulling off combos in God of War is one of the most satasfying guilty pleasures ever! Oh and if any game had mediocre gameplay, it was Gears of War (all three of them) Read my post on the last page for further explaination. Gameplay in Uncharted is awesome. I never understood that vauge and flimsy "criticism" from the minority of vocal geeks online! The gameplay is smooth, varied, and fun! Look at the type of game Uncharted is. It makes sense to have traversal, some puzzles and such etc. It fits well! The Uncharted games have had some of the smoothest flowing diverse gameplay on consoles in fact- segements where you are traversing big and beautiful envirnoments, engaging in shoot outs, EVEN engaging in shoot outs while you are traversing (the vertical shoot outs in Uncharted 3 were amazing) engaging in hand to hand combat, and doing smooth mixtures of through out etc) The Uncharted games have the great gameplay to match, other wise the series would not be as acclaimed as it is. Real gamers in the real world who have played Uncharted often rave about how great Uncharted's gameplay is too, along with everything else it does great, especially the charcater performances, presentation, story telling, and epic playable cinematic sequences it does awesomely etc. I will say it again, the bottom line is the Uncharted games would not be as acclaimed as they are if they did not have the great gameplay to match. It does!

Let me guess, you are a lemming? Its so obvious Uncharted is rated right where it should be, as a fantastic series of great games that excell in everything from presentation to story telling to gameplay etc The fact people like you are saying that its over rated means thats its now being under rated

I should have emphasized it but I said it felt like a button masher not all the time but at times, usually against groups of enemies. I've only played the game on normal so I can't comment on the harder modes. Comparing it to, say, DMC 3, it felt shallower and easier IMO.

I also wasn't a fan of the platforming sections and the spiked tower I already mentioned.

Completely agree with that. Its like Besthesda doesn't even have q and a team. The fact they are able to get away with releasing broken games with so many bugs in them is absurd

I agree that God of War's combat is incredibly shallow.

I have played all the DMC games, and I enjoyed combat encounters infintently more in God of War Like I said the combat is easy to use, but rewarding to master. There is depth to the combat in God of War 3 It all depends on how you play and how much time you want to put in it There are people who evade, roll, counter and bust out spectacular combos, and its all via their inputs Then you get some who dont know how to play who just want to mash buttons and do so on the easier difficulties. Their inabilites doesn't represent the combo system! Just because they can mash buttons doesn't mean its a button masher. This notion needs to stop. God of War was designed to be easy to use yet satasfying to master etc. Devil May Cry and Bonayetta are just hard haha. I much prefer God of War's great balance and smooth visceral combat! And you know what too, truth is, if you wanted to, you could mash buttons through most other hack and slash games etc Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjTG5LpaG3o And then tell me you still feel the same way Look how fluid the combo system is. How responsive it all is. All the sick moves he is busting out. The visceral nature of it all God of War 3 was an amazing COMPLETE game. It also had the best hack and slash gameplay in the biz IMO
