[QUOTE="loosingENDS"][QUOTE="SquirrelTamer"] But it's much crappier than demon's souls. Don't get how it got higher.SquirrelTamer
It is actually much better and bigger and far more refined in every way
It got higher because is much better, standards have changed too, the 9.5/10 today is like a 20/10 back then
Right now is the main GOTY candidate here, with Gears 3 beeing 2ond
Eh not really at all. The only improvement is that it's bigger as you say also in terms of content. But other than that the atmosphere isn't as engrossing, the NPCs and story far less interesting and most of all Demon's Souls wasn't about being hard but that was what it became famous for, for some reason. So now to live up to that all they do the entire game is throw hard stuff in your face. I mean I never played Demon's because it was hard. Now Dark Souls isn't that hard but because they have to prove themselves in this aspect it has resulted in cheapness instead. I mean it even says prepare to die. I never played Demon's Souls to die, what's the fun with that? If their direction had been at atmosphere and story and fairness then it would've been much better. It should've said: prepare to experience amazing atmosphere and gameplay. It is not just bigger, the atmosphere and art are leaps ahead of Demons Souls imo
The combat system is far more refined and fun as well and the game design offers better freedom and exploration
Plus the better graphics and effects
I would say it is 10x better in every way than Demons Souls and i am only at 80%

No it's not even close, the atmosphere is WAAAY worse, remember 3-1? The bells, the singing woman? And 1-1 there was actually crows? Why there are no ambient sounds like this in Dark Souls? It's simply a much less interesting world. And how can you know when you don't have a PS3? The combat system is pretty much exactly the same. The better graphics? You mean running around at a constant 10fps? It's a good game but compared to Demon's Souls it's a piece of junk.Uncharted 3 will break UC2s record of most GotY awards ever.hexashadow13Especially after so many people have been expressing that it isn't as good as UC2, amirite? -- My GOTY is already Batman. I'm asking for Skyward Sword and Skyrim for Christmas, so anything is possible though.

I really haven't heard that ... I've been hearing a lot of "It's a lot like U2" though.

Actually the biggest thing improved for me in Dark Souls is art and atmosphere, it is so much closer to what i like than Demons Souls that there is not even a contest
Aslo the variety in art and areas is night and day better in Dark Souls, from huge forests to huge cities and is not just caves, the same looking castles and darkness of Demons Souls
It is vastly better than Demon Souls in every way imo, that is why it got a 9.5/10 too with far highest standards than the 9.0/10 Demons Souls back then
It's between Batman and Dark Souls for now. Uncharted 3 or Skyrim could change that.
Kingpin0114
Seems more between Gears 3 and Dark Souls
Also Uncharted 3 has zero chance now that got 9/10, Skyrim and Zelda SS maybe, but i dont see it yet

But Demons Souls was Demon Souls, not a shooter
Also Dark Souls is like Demons Souls and got a 9.5/10, so if Demons Souls got GOTY with 9/10 over U2 with 9.5/10, why would the 9.5/10 Dark Souls not get GOTY over U3 that got lower with 9/10 ?
I dont get how this is possible

I love them both about equally. Overall I would say that out of the two though, Demon's Souls came closer to perfection. Just about every little detail in that game made sense and had a reason for being there. It was never unfair. The online was original, a blast to play, and it worked great. Dark Souls is significantly more unpolished and can be rather cheap at times, but the large world makes up for it. It kind of gives Dark Souls this epic feeling that Demon's Souls didn't have. Both = amazing games.[QUOTE="loosingENDS"][QUOTE="SquirrelTamer"] No it's not even close, the atmosphere is WAAAY worse, remember 3-1? The bells, the singing woman? And 1-1 there was actually crows? Dark Souls = a castle (crappy castle compared to boletarian palace) within a castle within a castle within a fortress. Then there's a little forest and another castle. That's pretty much it. Actually Demons Souls had one castle in chap1 and a ruined one in chap4, both of which dont touch Dark Souls castles artistically imo
And then was mainly caves like chap 2 and dark areas like chap 3 and 5

First of all they take a crap on Dark Souls castles. Second of all chap 4 was really a shrine and not a castle but yeah sure. It then turned to beautiful caves.
chap 2 was a mine so obviously and you went deeper and deeper. "Dark areas" so what?? That's the beauty of it? Dark Souls is a happy place without atmosphere. chap 3 was a prison btw and 3-2 was a beautiful ruined city and swamp area. 5-1 was a really cool place as well. A cool valley.
Yes firests are certainly unique. And what huge cities? I didn't see any huge cities?
No it's just crap. No atmosphere. Like something from tellietubbies.

Demon's souls has just as "huge cities" as Dark Souls. And it also has prison, shrine (a real one) and a mine. And it does have swamp lakes. So only thing missing is a big ugly forrest. No it's not more open or non-linear. Only difference is that you can travel between the worlds in more ways. Leading to the world looking really crappy since it feels like they just bunched 5 big castles and a big city together[QUOTE="loosingENDS"]

Are you talking about Anor Londo? You know that city where you can actually play in only a fractionof it?? Demon's Souls got it to. In 2-2 you see a huge city and if I am not mistaken 3-2 is also a city (although in ruins). So demon's souls 2X as much huge cities.
Multi platform: Skyrim
PS3: Either UC3 or MGS4
Xbox: GOW3
Wii: Skyward Sword
PC: Battlefield? (I'm not a pc guy, I put it out there just because it really stood out compared to console play)
Imo Dark Souls should have been a contender. If you beat it and didn't cry the whole time, experienced to like level 110, then you would probably agree.

Anno 2070, there's nothing on horizon this year that can match it for me. I expected it to be good, but not this good. Amazing achievement and a real pinnacle of it's genre. It's to city builders what Dark Souls, Skyrim and Witcher 2 are combined to RPG genre.

Could you sum it up quickly, there isn't much about it?
Ok, unlike most others here, I can predict with complete certainty My personal GOTY.
Anyhoo, hmm, Gears 3 but I'll need to completely play through Skyrim before being sure which one gets it but I'll guess by the times it's all over, Skyrim will be the winner. :P

It's a game about creating small colonies on islands, setting up their economies, taking care of citizens needs etc. What's amazing is that it manages to feel both fresh and familiar. The SF setting allowed for addition of a lot of fresh new elements, like energy distrubution, ecology, building on the bottom of the sea, three factions (all playable at the same time, you don;t have to choose one, you can use the tech of all three at the same time), air units, the permanent (also in online) Ark base etc.Also.. it has awesome campaig and amazing online support (MP rocks and social functions are outstanding).[QUOTE="tenaka2"]
