[QUOTE="Supa__Mario"]"since MMORPG servers are completely different".....this invalidates your whole post......a server is a server........some reset.....some are dedicated.........the only thing for mmo games are there are More servers....not different.....plz.......just stopSupa__Mario

MMO information is all stored server side, all your characters, items, everything except for settings are stored on a server. Their servers have to be able to store all that information for 500,000+ people(plus all their alt characters). FPS dedicated servers do not have to store any information and just able to be able to join them. You do not know what you are talking about, they are completely different!

Edit: Also a FPS dedicated server only has to host 16-64 people, while a MMO server have to be able to host about 5000-6000 players.

oh u mean like sonys trophy system......must be a "different server".......lol

You need to learn to quit when you're behind.

You just compared a trophy system to storing characters? You are just trolling now.

MMORPG servers do a very different job to other types of servers, but thanks for so succinctly demonstrating to everyone you know nothing about the topic, could only bring yourself to try and dispel my first line, and are borderline trolling.

I didn't feel like responding to half a page of your waffle. :)

sure thing mr. "i realized u were looking at wiki"....nice revalation.....instead of "i was looking at wiki too and saw the same thing u quoted"......and once again....a server is a server.......trying to sell an mmo game that uses a server as "a different server" shows u know too much about the topic.....or not....

Please read my last post, you quoted, I found where you got the quote from, I publically embarrased you.

you embarresed yourself by trying to say servers are different for mmo games.....they are not different.....they just dont reset so to keep all the tracking........read up on dedicated servers....they do exactly this.....they are the same thing........there is no thing called an mmo server........it is called a server.....or dedicated server.......public announcement.....

I'm very, very excited for it. I've never really been in to MMOs, but I'm really looking forward to this.

And if things go according to what Squenix says, FFXIV WILL be out before Versus. Development on Versus is pretty much at a standstill right now, and even if it weren't, I find it hard to believe that they'd release 3 major games that target the same audience within a few months of each other.

Yes, we are.

You've made it clear you've never played an MMORPG.

You've made it clear you don't understand the different tasks a server performs in an MMORPG compared to say, an FPS.

You've made it clear Wikipedia is your first port of call to understand something, and that you don't have any first hand knowledge.

You've made it clear when someone makes a lengthier post, you seize up and childishly nitpick at the first thing they say.

You've made it clear you're not worth wasting another keystroke on.

You'd probably want to check out the PC game forum here, they'll have a bit more info on the Old Republic. System Wars tends to ignore it a bit since it's a PC only game.

First thing Supa__Mario there is an edit button for a reason. Use it when you forget to put something in your post, It will not bite.

About Final Fantasy XIV, I remember reading something about a Final Fantasy MMO for the PS3 and PC and when they were talking about the next one I had a feeling that it would be Online. After playing FFXI I lost interest in MMORPGs. This will have monthly or yearly fees.

1: Possibility of Free to Play

2: The fact that there will be more emphasis on single player missions and quests to balance with the party component

3: The release date and how it is released around the same time as FFXIII

4: The possibility of it being released before FFVsXIII andFF Agito XIII(I dont think these were mentioned in any articles, its just my theory)

1: NO! It better not be free to play....

2: They did, they'll make it possible for solo play as well as party play ...

3: They did this about 4 years ago ..... it might have possibly been FFXV for all we know

4: Possible release date is Springtime of 2010... about the same time as FFXIII... it could very will head towards summer before the actual release date

It's been more than one day. SE said they were "considering" Microsoft. They didn't say 360 so they could've meant Zune, LOL!

I had so much fun with final fantasy 11. So my wife and I will be getting this for sure. Hell, could force me to get a second PS3 so my wife and I can play togather. FF11's first three years were a blast with how crowded. Free or not who cares. I always wanted ff11 with PS3 graphics and now its here.

It isn't that I don't mind it being F2P, but most who have played it for a long time know that it is often times much better in a game that is P2P

Your options:

1) MMO

2) Free

3) Good

Choose two.

I'm mildly interested. I've never been big on MMOs, more so because I can easily become addicted with a game so I never bothered taking the risk. FFXIV does look a lot more interesting than XI though so if it's free or inexpensive I think I might give it a go.

I'm interested in the solo play. I played the first got very annoyed and quit soon after. I also hope the gameplay is faster and maybe let you attack while moving anyone?...

Well I'll be waiting for w/e they have in store.

no, just because thats the way it is now doesn't me its the way it has to be. besides what mmo junkies consider "fun" i call mind numbing boredom. theres a lot of things i'd prefer them not include. questing time and ridiculous raids are 2 of them, not everybody has 6 hours to carve out of their schedule to plan a raid with 10 other people who managed to carve out 6 hours to play. a friend of mine plays WoW constantly and he's told me at 30-60 minutes a day it would take years to get anywhere. no thanks, you can keep that, making time in my schedule around thenext 3 yearsof my life to beat an online rpg because its a "personal long term goal" is not an accurate description of me or alot of FF players. i like the console versions b/c i can play for an hour or 2 if i get enough time and get somewhere and after a couple weeks the games about done, not3-5+ years.

I just want to hear what some people think about FFXIV. Discuss whatever you want, a few things to discuss are...

LETS HEAR IT!

WildDangles92

Well, I could relate a little to discussion since I spent good year with FFXI.

I don't believe it will be free, it's a full pledge MMORPG, just like FFXI was with lots of expansions to support the game. However, I'd like to see them do something in terms of Guild Wars aspect, where you don't pay monthly fee but every 3-4 months a content is released to purchase from stores that adds fixes, patches and extra new content for around 30$. The idea is that it's still optional to buy the content, however - in the end I believe it will be monthly subscription, which is fine by me.

Without a doubt FFXIV is going to have to learn from recent MMO ideas, especially World of Warcraft. Keeping things accessible to everyone and still providing content for groups and hardcore is a proper way to go, at least making money wise, not necessarily what gamers would look forward to. I'm a veteran MMO player but I do enjoy not being hardcore punished in MMO and I do enjoy solo quests as well as leveling alone and with friends. Proper balance should be considered, MMO has changed since my favorite - Dark Age of Camelot days where I actually had time to spend on MMO. ;)

I believe FFXIV will be released after FFXIII but I don't believe they will wait for VS XIII. The could go either way, I'm not expecting FFXIV release date until late 2010 or early 2011. By that time Versus will be out anyway.

All I can say is that I did enjoyed FFXI and I'm anticipating FFXIV.

no, just because thats the way it is now doesn't me its the way it has to be. besides what mmo junkies consider "fun" i call mind numbing boredom. theres a lot of things i'd prefer them not include. questing time and ridiculous raids are 2 of them, not everybody has 6 hours to carve out of their schedule to plan a raid with 10 other people who managed to carve out 6 hours to play. a friend of mine plays WoW constantly and he's told me at 30-60 minutes a day it would take years to get anywhere. no thanks, you can keep that, making time in my schedule around thenext 3 yearsof my life to beat an online rpg because its a "personal long term goal" is not an accurate description of me or alot of FF players. i like the console versions b/c i can play for an hour or 2 if i get enough time and get somewhere and after a couple weeks the games about done, not3-5+ years.

The thing is the content changes ... it would be like adding a new story every couple months... if you know anything about free to play servers, especially PC, you should know that most of them are saturated with BOT's, retarded people that spam using trade chat throughout the whole game. You would know that the only way to take all of these away is to use filters.

Play a game like Flyff for a day, play a game like Runescape (ughhh) for a day ... play a game like Maplestory for a day. All three are free to play (with the exception that RS has a p2p server), you will notice many things in common with all three that it is filled with bots, spammers and currency sellers. While WoW is an exception (considering it has that many people online), if you take a notice of FFXI, there aren't many fishing bots anymore, there aren't really any bots that auto hunt NMs anymore, you do not see bots inside much or any at all selling gil...

The main reason why most get into FFXI is the story, even though many people complain that FFXI and FFXIV aren't and shouldn't be with the rest of the lot, I can say the story FFXI has is bigger than most of what 1-10 and 12 has to offer.

Not to mention SE has made it so that they can appeal more for those who don't have time. I admit I cut off FFXI this month and maybe for even longer because I have college courses, but it doesn't mean I don't mind heading back to play once I do have time.

You've made it clear you're not worth wasting another keystroke on.

you still havent made it clear where one can buy an mmo server ;)..........

i would think they would be bespoke. in any case its the bandwidth that is the really cost

se

and here's a picture of sonys dedicated servers.

110million

You're right, all servers are the same, Sony can just use the Trophy server that handles a few words and numbers, for millions of characters, genius.

i just realized ur problem....u think its just "one server" but what u just said.....it is not just one....just like mmo's....thats where the cost is.......it is many......it is also for millions of people......except for every single game sony game coming up and many that have already come......

you may not have noticed but alot of ps3 games have extra content released for little to nothing. i don't mind this to some degree, i do mind a monthly charge. i'm pretty sure they could filter out bots, especially on the ps3 version (nobodys said anything about cross platform play so theres no telling if pc's might bot up the ps3)

Never played a MMORPG, or enough of it to know whats the big deal with them. But if it really is free to play, maybe I'll consider it.

Simultaneous release, That means Germany, France, United States, Japan.

It was done in FFXI,

PS2, Xbox, PC, they all played on the server.

I don't think they'll want to split the whole community that much, because seriously, you'll have a lot of unpopulated servers. Take a look when SE allowed people to transfer servers. Some servers got so depleted that they had to take action and give people the option of switching to those unpopulated servers for free. Why would SE want to upkeep servers that are empty? Hmm.... I remember an MMO back then made so many servers to the point that after a while they had to close down a few and push everyone into the same servers.

I know good people who play on the PS2 and Xbox, and quite frankly, I doubt they want to seperate the community that much because it wouldn't have the FFXI "feel" that they stated.

I think FF14 will sell millions in Japan and boost PS3 sales.

EDIT: Boost sales at least in Japan
