Your Thoughts on Mortal Kombat 9

So what you you think? Did it meet your expectations? Surpass? Disappoint? I use to be a Street Fighter guy in the early 90's with little Mortal Kombat playtime. But I have to say, I completely love how this game plays. The controls are so much more fluid and the moves are much more easier to pull off than SSF 4. So, I have to say, for me, it's my new fave fighter.

Edit: Plus, I love all the content and unlockables. Especially love seeing conceptual art.

It's the best Mortal Kombat that I have played since the SEGA Genesis ones.

It definitely surpassed my expectations. It has the best battle system in the series by far and the best story mode in a fighting game I've ever seen. I know that's not really saying much, but you just have to play it to know. All the old stages, characters and music really hit on your nostalgic strings, but under all that old school styIe there is a great game to be played with tons of Kontent.

I say it all the time, but the guys at Netherrealm could not have taken the series in a better direction than this. This is the ultimate MK game.

I actually tend to forget Kratos is even on the roster. When you have almost all the best characters from the MK universe, why would you roll with a slow and clunky douche bag? :lol:

I was glad when I unlocked Cyber Sub cause it knocked Kratos off the select screen lol.

I'd like to know as well. A lot of people are just writing this game off cause its MK and that is understandable. The series has a history of shallow gameplay and broken mechanics. Good thing this game doesnt follow suit.

I like fighters and I'm am in love with the new Mortal Kombat. My recent favorite fighter was Tekken. This is the first Mortal Kombat I have bought because every other one was terrible. It exceeded every expectation I had. I am very impressed with the story. In my opinion the best fighter story was in Tekken but NetherRealm really went into detail with the story this time. I'm impressed.

I didn't expect much from this game seeing how the Mortal Kombat series died a long time ago and every other recent release has been terrible but NetherRealm has created a fighter masterpiece. Everything about this game is incredible, the fighting mechanics, the cutscenes, the HUGE amount of content. MK9 puts every fighter this gen to shame (ok maybe not SSB:Brawl) but everything else. Capsom should take note. THIS is how you create a fighting game. I can't wait to see what NetherRealm will do next with this franchise. Seeing how it is now praised as one of the best fighters I think they have an idea of what the fans want now. :)

Damn, i played Guilty Gear X2 Reload on the PC to death and beyond wen i got it for free with a PC magazine. It seems to me like the fighters in relation to Arc System Works all feel the same, in some ways. Like Blazblue, for example, and Arcana Heart 3 judging from the videos gives off a similar vibe.

Oh that's cool then. It was just that you said better games and then listed those games, so I figured you hadn't tried it. GG and 3rd Strike, sure, but other than that....

GG and BB are relative franchises. But ArcSys only published Arcana Heart. It was developed by Examu, and trust me, if you play the game you will see that it plays nothing like anything from ArcSys. So much movement and speed. It's a pretty unique experience.

Nevermind. I don't want to start a stupid opinion war. Differing opinions is all.

I've just run into a lot of snobby attitudes towards this newest MK simply because it bares the name. I also always looked the series as sub-par when compared to other fighters, but I gave this one a chance and its great. I just got the impression that were of the group that didnt even give the game a try.

Yes because 50 hit combos only come from button mashing and are ALWAYS easy to preform. I'm goign to be serious with you. There is NO fighter that, at serious play, you can win by mashing buttons. NONE. Don't act like MK9 is so unique. It's pretty bare bones, tbh. And I don't see why always doing "wild" combos is bad, especially when you have to collectively think about what you are doing to actually do them. Mashing doesn't work that way bro.

Calling MK the most unique fighter is just lol worthy though.

I don't really like the way the game looks, but I'd give the game a more thorough try, I just don't want to pay for something that I doubt I'll like. I'm broke.

Every thing is wrong with flashy attacks and 50 hit combos. For one...you can easily button mash your way into a victory. You can't do that in MK9. In anime fighters, you can do a random button mash and the character will always do a wild combo. MK is the most unique fighter out there. percech

No.. you can't, not in the games i've played, especially the likes of Guilty Gear, man. I can understand you loving MK, i love a lot of fighting games out there, especially Soul Calibur and Fatal Fury/Real Bout. But don't downtalk on other types of fighting games.

Yes because 50 hit combos only come from button mashing and are ALWAYS easy to preform. I'm goign to be serious with you. There is NO fighter that, at serious play, you can win by mashing buttons. NONE. Don't act like MK9 is so unique. It's pretty bare bones, tbh. And I don't see why always doing "wild" combos is bad, especially when you have to collectively think about what you are doing to actually do them. Mashing doesn't work that way bro.

It has its cheap moment, like in story mode, but the game is enjoyable. Its the only retail fighting game i've bothered to buy this gen.

Yep. Usually when anyone says something is better, it is of course an opinion. I think fighting games are better based on a scale of depth. To me, MK9 is very minimal with the system mechanics and such. This is one case where the demo can actually be used to base an actual opinion. I played 4 FULL characters. I just don't care much for it.

It has NOTHING on the depth of Guilty Gear, and the character variance in MK is pathetic at best. So many of these "not unique" anime fighters have more varience between just a few characters than MK has with its entire roster. And if you are winning/losing in a game due to mashing, you must be pretty bad at fighting games.
