Don't buy it!!!! The klassic costume will be released as dlc. On the reptile theme, can you use custom soundtracks? I actually didn't check. lbjkurono23

No way really? Got a link to that?

And yes with the PS3 version you can do kustom soundtracks. I prefer in-game because they always do quality work on them.

I'm with Foxhound. Frustrated that I can't afford it at the moment[QUOTE="ChubbyGuy40"]Even surpasses Soul Calibur 4. Guppy507

>implying SC4 wasn't terrible

Soul Calibur 2 was still the best in the series but 4 was still a decent recovery attempt from SC3. If they ever get around to SC5 I hope that they drop the gimmicks and focus on making the gameplay as balanced as possible. As amusing as the character creator is, as a game feature it's about as gimmicky as it gets and adds nothing to the gameplay. Also, the guest characters got pretty out of hand with SC4 (were any of the Star Wars characters NOT broken? And did we really need 3 of them on the roster?).

It feels really good. Way better then all the 3d mortal kombats I played before it (expect for MK vs DC because I did not play that one). I love how they used story mode, the amount of modes are good, and until psn went I was loving how they did lobby fights. I hope PSN comes back on this week so I can test may skills in this game.

So wait.. Your idea of depth directly hinges on the pace of the fighter?

Slashkice

No, speed is just a preference of mine. In regards to depth, the game just seems more button-masher friendly than others and fighting still seems like it relies too much on uppercuts and specials. Perhaps I might think differently if I played more than just the AI, but alas, PSN was and is down.

I wouldn't say that, most specials in the game are incredibly unsafe, uppercuts as well.. I suppose by rely you mean for combos? If so then yeah you do have to use quite a bit of specials for combos. Also I think for combos at least.. this is one of the worst games to button mash since the combo system is kinda weird. MVC 3 is quite the button masher though.. I still can't stop myself from mashing at times in that game....

I never liked any of the Soul Calibur games.... I kinda liked Soul Blade on the PS1 though.

Can't say I'm really impressed. It's nice that the fans are getting what they want out of it but...well I was never a fan. I always thought the fatalities were really dull (There was one in this game that I thought was neat, Noobs rip them in half one. Mostly because it rips Raidens hat in half too) which seems to be a major draw. The fighting mechanics themselves are pretty simple and it's not all that fun to see in action. There's loads of content but that doesn't really mean anything when I find the actual gameplay boring and dull looking. Also to the guy arguing balance: You say Japanese fighters have worse balance than American fighters yet pretty much 100% of the fighters played with a competitive scene are from Japan and MK has never really had a scene of any real size.

I love it, some cheap fights in Story mode, test your xyz shouldn't depend on the challenge tower, german synch is horrible and the crypt is confusing. But those points aside it's the best MK since the original 3 titles

I agree. If you block an uppercut, you're left wide open for a combo. And I've tried button mashing in this game. It just doesn't work :P

That had nothing to do with balance it all has to do with gameplay.

The whole point of MK9 was to make it balanced enough to be tournament ready, and they have already stated that the game's infrastructure is designed to allow for speedy updates that will seamlessly adjust character balance based on the data collected from online matches and additional testing and feedback. Netherrealm really went the extra mile with this game and I gotta give credit where it's due. Even out of the box before any updates I could tell a lot of love and attention went into getting this game right, and I am certain we are looking at the first Mortal Kombat game since the UMK3 back in the 90's to attract a serious scene and use in real tournaments. They didn't just listen to what Mortal Kombat fans wanted-- they went to the hardcore fighting game players when they designed this thing, and did everything within their power to ensure that this was the MK game that truly supports high-end play. It's the deepest, least gimmicky Mortal Kombat game in 2 decades and I think that ought to count for something.

The best, most balanced fighting game this generation. Shows that Western developers are still miles ahead of Japanese devs. The characters are perfect, the fatalities are sick, insane amount of fun creating your own combo's and more content than any other fighter this gen. Not to mention the stupidly good graphics.

Yeah I know but it's not a very large scene and it never really was too large. Espada: I know but still saying Japanese fighters have bad balance compared to American fighters is basically comparing SF, MvC, BB, GG and AH to MK for all intents and purposes right now. That and SSF4 is reasonably balanced and the later entries into Guilty Gear were quite balanced. That said it's obviously way too early to tell if MK is balanced or not and really there won't be any data for that unless it gets a tournament scene. Timstuff: That may be but at the same time I've never been the sort to enjoy MK so it being the best MK game doesn't really mean anything to me. It's completely possible that it will get a tourney scene, SSBB had one too after all, but I for one won't be paying attention to it.

I'm actually more drawn to this game for its gameplay above all else. Its a lot of fun and though its not the deepest fighter by any means, it has more than enough depth to stay interesting for a while. As far as fatalities go, I got over that amusement back in MK1. They serve little purpose besides further pissing off the guy that you just owned lol.

And UMK3 has always had and still does have a competitive scene. I considered flying out to play a in a tournament last year, but didnt want to spend all that money just to get their and possibly get eliminated from the start. :P

It is, and there's going to be a tournament scene at least this year at EVO. Anyway I was going to mention SF4 Sagat, STII Akuma, Rachel Alucard, Bang in CS and the likes.... imba to the max lol.

Being the most balanced fighter is a stretch. The day the game released they had to put out a patch due to some characters having infinite loops. You really cant make such a claim so early on. Things like that take time. There is no telling what players may stumble upon in the coming weeks and months.

And I'm really against the whole notion of western devs being miles ahead of Japan. Western devs made some major improvements this gen and for once Japan doesn't all out dominate gaming the way they used to, but that doesn't mean they arent still putting out great things. Some of the best games this gen come from Japan and I could easily argue that Japan still makes the best fighting games by far. And I love MK9.

It's a nice diversion from the other fighters I usually play for a change of pace, but not something I take seriously and I still think the general fighting is pretty clunky and whatnot. Story mode is entertaining no doubt, but i wish they'd let you pause or skip cutscenes :?

The custom stick I am going to build will be even awesomer.

For the longest time I avoided using Japanese parts, but I think I trust myself enough not to break them now. My stick's layout will be easily convertable between "street fighter" and "Mortal Kombat" modes just by moving a button and plugging up a extra button hole, and it will work on 3 platforms (PC, PS3, and Xbox 360). :D

Still, the official stick is rather nice. I just wish they'd gone with IL Competition buttons and sticks instead of the cheap Happ ones, but it's easy enough to swap them out.

Streetfighter IV just felt like SF2 with fancy graphics.

Phazevariance

SFIV was just as fresh for that series as MK9 is for this series. Seriously. If SF4 really felt like SF2 then I wouldnt have such a difficult time deciding which one to play some days.

Plus technically, MK9 is just MK3 with fancy graphics.

What? MK3 had a super meter, x-ray mode, story mode, challenge tower, test your *insert mode*, 26(27 in PS3) characters, no run, a krypt, king of the hill, online and more, didn't know that.

Arcana Heart 3. And i'm playing some Guilty Gear and stuff.

I'm also waiting for Third Strike Online, KoFXIII, and Skull Girls.

Phazevariance

You're probably into flashy attacks and 50 hit combos. Also perhaps the fact that it isn't an anime fighter too.

There's nothing wrong with 50 hit combo games, Killer Instinct was imo THE best fighting game. While MK looks great (and is fun and polished well) i'd still take a brand new KI over the latest MK anyday.

I would love another KI as well, I wouldn't mind a reboot or remake on XBLA for all that matter.

Not to mention that the combos are decidedly NOT dialed in. The gameplay encourages experimentation to discover your own combos, unlike previous games where they were completely automatic and had nothing to do with timing. And unlike with Capukom's recent games, you won't have to buy a new copy of the game just to get the latest balance updates. And that's not a diss-- I grew up with Capcom's fighters and I love 'em to death, but DARNIT CAPCOM STOP TRYING TO RE-SELL ME THE SAME GAME!

Sagat in SF4 was certainly over powered but he wasn't "imba to the max". He had some 7-3 matchups but nothing tragic. Can't argue Akuma. Both Rachel and Bang suffered from overcorrection off balance. Rachel in CT was difficult but godly (still was only just above Nu who was much, much easier to use and both of them benefited in the tier listings by having insanely good match ups against Tager), she's pretty balanced in CS2 though. Bang went from bottom tier to S tier but he's still hanging out with Litchi, Hazama, Arakune, Hakuman, Tao, Ragna and Carl in the upper area. Arakune is really the only character they can't seem to figure out how to balance at this point, mostly because he has a very...odd style of fighting. CS2 seems to have fixed the balance for the most part (Makoto, Jin and Noel are pretty much awesome but they're less broken than CS Bang, Litchi and Tao were). The characters are pretty varied and they are at least trying to fix it.

Most fun I've had with a fighting game this generation.

Yes, I'm having more fun with it than SFIV.

I actually tend to forget Kratos is even on the roster. When you have almost all the best characters from the MK universe, why would you roll with a slow and clunky douche bag?

I was glad when I unlocked Cyber Sub cause it knocked Kratos off the select screen lol.

Kratos is the reason the game will sell on PS3

I'm sure it will have some minor effect on sales, but no more so than people buying the PS3 version just for the better D-pad, or people buying the 360 version to play with their friends on Live.

Its a cool bonus and something that GoW fans will appreciate, but I don't see the PS3 version getting some massive sales boost because of it.

And saying its the best MK because of Kratos is pretty lame. Its the best MK for many much more important reasons, not because of a marketing ploy.

Your joking ... MK is way bigger than GOW and is far more iconic. Way more people know aboutMK and about 30 million plus people played MK games compared the 3 or so million who play God of War. I'm not hating on Kratos because it attracts the kids like yourself who just were not there in the good old days of MK and the more people supporting Netherrealm studios the better.

I love it more than SSF4. Has more......dare I say......depth to everything. The characters have more than just a "opening" than "ending" (Like SF4). Its story mode lets the characters develop themselves. Stages look fantastic and with their Fatalities. It just feels like this fighter is more "alive" than all the others. Thats what makes this a greater impact on me than MvC 3 or SF4.

Agreed to the max.

I just prefer MK, and it's not that fatalities only. I just prefer it. It also has alot more personality than other fighters.

game is great. The story mode and challenge tower raised the bar for all fighting games in terms of single player modes. As far as the actual game mechanics, my initial impressions are that the game is deep, but not as deep as SSF4 or Blazblue. Definitely the deepest MK game I've played to date though.

Absolutely spectacular, IMO. Game is just jam packed with content and little nods for the veteran MK fans to catch. I give it 9 if the the online gets less laggy. Just wish that it had Puzzle Kombat or something else that you and your friends could do in between matches.

[QUOTE="Ace6301"][

That said it's obviously way too early to tell if MK is balanced or not and really there won't be any data for that unless it gets a tournament scene.Ace6301

It is, and there's going to be a tournament scene at least this year at EVO. Anyway I was going to mention SF4 Sagat, STII Akuma, Rachel Alucard, Bang in CS and the likes.... imba to the max lol.

Sagat in SF4 was certainly over powered but he wasn't "imba to the max". He had some 7-3 matchups but nothing tragic.

Most of sagat's match ups were 6-4 and 7-3 he only had two 5-5, and no match ups under 5-5 I believe.. and those were akuma and either dhalsim or ryu.. I can't remember which one. That is being overpowered to the max!

The first fight with Shang Tsung, kano's ball roll, some of the 2v1 battles, kintaro and Goro's 53% x-ray, ermac's throws, secktor's teleport uppercut, and of course Shao ****ing Kahn

He's actually pretty strong. He's just slower than most of the other characters.

I don't like how the demo played and I don't really want to play it....And I never said MK9 was bad or anything.

OneSanitarium

but other than that....

KoFXIII is pretty deep and stuff, Skull Girls is showing a lot of promise, and Arcana Heart 3 is just fantastic. What are you trying to say?

Skull girls promise? imo that fighter looks dreadfully dull. I would take AH3 and KOF over that any day of the week.

Its definitely the best MK since the 3D era came. The story was pretty cool and retconned backstories were done well. Lots of content to unlock. Not to mention the fighting engine being really solid (its going to evo).
