[QUOTE="jacobs1282"]Sorry it has taken so long for me to respond, but I had a very busy weekend. So for lack of a more prepared and better question...

I believe the answer is C - J.R.R. Tolkien. There are lots of influences from Tolkien's works in the Castlevania games. Particularly, the Silmarillion by Tolkien. I haven't read it yet, but it sits on my bookshelf waiting to be read.
It is a definite fact that the Japanese love to put literary references into their games. Some of these references are clever and hard to catch, some are blatant and obvious. They are all very interesting because it connects the game outside influences. Literature, mythology, different ideologies from all over the world. I think few games do it as good as the Castlevanias. So many of the weapons and creatures are drawn from external influences.
I think this is particularly interesting because weapons are such an important aspect to epic literature. In epic poetry, the weapons are often portrayed as characters. They have personalities and often have special circumstances under which they are used. All this has me thinking of a question...
The Balmung, as seen in Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, is...
A - A sword Beowulf attempts to slay Grendal's Mother with in Beowulf.
B - An unbreakable sword used by Roland in The Song of Roland.
C - Attributed to Odin, used by heroes like Siegfried in The Nibelungenlied.
D - A cursed sword that can not be sheathed until blood has been spilled upon it.
Right you are, Anfauglir is the Elvish name of Carcharoth, the guardian wolf from the Silmarillion. I have read a lot of it, but need to reread it. You really need to to have time to invest into it, you can miss a lot of little things that make a big difference.
As for your question I believe the answer is
C - Attributed to Odin, used by heroes like Siegfried in The Nibelungenlied.
Waiting for confirmation though.
