From the description, I even more immediately thought of the TNG finale "All Good Things..."

I loved the episode. I have to say that seeing as it was the end, but It was good. I extreamly like the idea of the odesaey being the legasy of the asgard, and that Earth has become the "5th Race". I quite liked the plot aswell, the idea of being stuck in time for 60 years is kinda sad, just like the end of one of the greatest shows ever; and that Tel'c won't tell anybody what happened in quite in character. I really did think that Jack would of been in the last ever episode, but the plot wouldn't of worked if he was. It was a great episode, and a fine fitting to the eng of Stargate.

really good episode, and i really sad that its the last. most of this episode was quite touching, now we know why the asgards havent been in contact with us for such a long time. it was really sad to see them blow up their planet, and that means their's little to know chance for them being in the movies. being stuck in a time dialation field would drive anyone crazy, i really thought that bit was done nicely and they didnt just suddenly come up with the solution like they usually do. Teal'c must be the oldest jaffa in the universe now lol, i just which stargate would never end :(

I don't want it to end :). I really don't . Here are my emotions through this glorious last episode of SG-1

  • Thor's back! Hurray! :D
  • Thor and the Asgard are dead! NOOOO!
  • Cool laser weapons! :D
  • Blowing up the Ori :D:D:D
  • Ohhh... Time machines :D
  • DANIEL AND VALA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Everyone's old :|
  • OLD DANIEL AND VALA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Completely outrageous plan... I like it! :D
  • Teal'c is way older now for the movies :|
  • Great "riding into the sunset" ending :) That was good.

Anyway it was an amazing and memorable episode. I was very very sad about Thor and the Asgard as they have been one of our closest allies since season 2. I'm gonna miss the little guys . Had I not heard about the movies, I would definitely have thought that they'd kill someone off. Anyway, it was the best ending a show like this could hope for. Thanks SG-1, I'll miss you :).

But we do have Asgard tech now :D. We can kick Ba'al's ass easily (something tells me I'll regret saying that :|) and we can go one on one with the Ori now! Their ships seem to only fire forwards so we can flank em and kill em!.

I'm sure it's not that easy, I hope so though. Tel'c is only a 130, Bratac is I think 200. I know I call my self a stargate fan but, THERE ARE GOING TO BE FILMS!!!!! cool, can't wait. It truely was a good episode.

R.I.P. Thor, Supreme Commander of the Asgard fleet.  You will be remembered as one of the greatest Stargate SG-1 recurring characters of all time... Shockwave isn't gonna be happy when he sees this episode...

Indeed :(. I was absolutely gutted when it happened. I had hoped that he would make an appearence in one of the movies. Then again the 2nd movie does have time travel. Perhaps we'll see him when SG-1 go back to the past :).

Same... now my hopes and dreams of seeing Thor in one of the SG-1 movies has been utterly destroyed, unless they have him in the time travel movie. I hope there is some way that SG-1 could go back in time and prevent the Asgard from becoming terminally ill, but then that would change a lot of stuff so it would probably never happen. One of the things that makes me sad about SG-1 is that cool characters always die when they think the show is ending. Like in season 5, Daniel died, in season 8, Jacob died, and now in season 10 Thor is dead. I hope that in the time travel movie Jacob Carter will come back because ever since he died it felt like a part of SG-1 was gone. It would be like not having Bra'tac anymore.

By the way, does anyone know if Hermiod is still alive on the Dedalus? and what the hell happened to all the Asgard ships?

yeah they could have given us all their ships, but they were probably scared of them falling into the wrong hands, maybe in the movies we get to see thor at least. it would be a good thing to put him in for stargate fans

What again! hope so. I allways liked the asgard, it's a shame their all dead. Hey here's a question, why didn't they just load all their minds into one supercomputer and surive, you know, instead of blowing themselfes up. They could do the same think that alain race with the big ass spaceship did, restart.

I thought that too, I thought why didn't Thor just upload his conciousness into the Odyssey or something? Then they could have preserved Thor :) Oh well. But does anyone know if Hermiod will still be on the Dedalus?

Finally saw this ep last night and I thought it was pretty damned excellent. I can't believe that the Asgard are gone and that what Thor was upset about was not being able to help humans more. The scene where Daniel blew up at Vala was unbelievably harsh. Very emotional episode, plus we now have the ability to face Ori ships in direct combat (oh, and replicators (of the Star Trek variety))

Wow, other than the season openers and enders, I considered seasons 7 and 8 oretty much train wrecks, and for me, the less said about season 1, the better. On the other hand, Morpheus is about the only stinker to my taste from seasons 9 and 10. Different strokes... :)

What's so bad about 7 and 8? And season 1 is one of my favourite seasons because it has so much exploration and potential to be used later on in the series.  Like what the hell happened to the Nox? Such a wasted opportunity.

Season 7: Orpheus, Revisions, Life Boat, Enemy Mine, Space Race, Resurrection Season 8: Icon, Avatar, Affinity, Covenant, Sacrifices, It's Good to be the King I considered all those episodes pretty astonishingly bad. My main issue with season 1 is that it was so wildly uneven. There were some good episodes, but a lot of it felt like cookie cutter sci-fi to me, and I felt it didn't yet have it's distinct voice.

True. But I liked some of those episodes that you've listed. Although some of them aren't that great. Space Race could have been a lot better but I still enjoyed it. Although I was irritated that that alien guy (I think his name was Warrick, or something) was played by a different actor, and he looked way different. I'm surprised you didn't like Avatar and Affinity though because they gave some good insight into Teal'c's character.

I guess its mostly just up to personal preference.

Hey different strokes for sure; I should have put a big "in my opinion" around that. I'm definitely not trying to say that they were objectively bad, just that the ones I listed felt more like Andromeda episodes (ouch) than Stargate episodes to me

Oh shut up! If you want andromeda, watch season nine andten! Seriously though, if you didn't like it's good to be king, you must have also hated Paradise Lost, Window of Opportunity, Urgo, Wormhole X-Treme, and a bunch of other terrific episodes. Besides, season eight's finle (Threads) was the best stargate episode I've ever seen, and thats coming from someone who loved everysingle one of them from seasons 1-8 except spirits.

Moebius was the season 8 finale ;) But yeah, I mentioned specifically that I thought both seasons had good opening and closing eps; disliked Paradise Lost hated Urgo with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, and loved Window of Opportunity and Wormhole X-Treme. But I guess I'm dragging this thread off topic and should shut up :)

Indeed? Well it wasn't good enough, so I just treat Threads as the seqason finale. I can pick and choose. As for emancipation, it wasn't that bad at all imo. I do hate feminists though...

Threads was the "real" season 8 finale in my opinion.  Moebius 1 and 2 were more like a "farewell" to SG-1 until they renewed it for a 9th season.

Threads is one of the best episodes of SG-1 ever.  The only thing I didn't really like about Moebius 1 & 2 was that they both confused the hell out of me concerning the continuity of the series.

thats exactly what i was think, they all could have uploaded their minds into machines, but then they would be almost like the replicators which they wouldnt want, it would have been better if thor had explained some more why they couldnt survive anymoremjk1
How do we know they havent uploaded their minds to machines, we dont even know for sure they were all on that planet, it was suggested they were but the asguard do always tell everything, they could still be some around if the writers wanted them to be.

How do we know they havent uploaded their minds to machines, we dont even know for sure they were all on that planet, it was suggested they were but the asguard do always tell everything, they could still be some around if the writers wanted them to be.

yeah like the one in atlantis, but eventually they were all going to die, so i dont think the writers are going to bring them back

Thing is im not sure the entire knowledge of the azgurad could be stored on board the earth ship even with an azgurad computer, and history would suggest the azguard like to have a backup and keep check on things, i know they could have a backup hidden in the mainframe, and they have used this method before, but its alot to entrust, and why wouldn't they just get the knox to keep everything safe. (I havent seen them in ages and i have missed some episodes along the way, so if they are gone then feel free to correct me)

the asgards didnt want any of thier knowledge falling into teh wrong hands, that wahy they destroyed most of it, but maybe they have hidden some of their knowledge on some distant planet in some galaxy and left a map for sg1 to find it lol

But Thor said they were giving the entire knowledge of the azguard to sg-1, and given the way the knox are invisible to just about whoever they want, then wouldnt that have been a safer place to put it, then ask the knox to keep an eye on things after giving sg-1 the ship technology and some knowledge.

how do we know they haven't?

the said that they gave earth the entire knollage of the asguard,

they didn't say it was the only copy.

and abyway, the asguard would want their knollage to be used; that their legacy put to something. The nox would not of done that, they just would of hidden it away, and played hide and seek.

I watched a repeat of this episode the other day, it wasn't as good as the first time I saw it. just taken as a normal stargate episode it's quite bad; but It was a good ending to the show.

I thought it was a good stand alone episode as well, the only thing with stargate for me is that alot of the storylines seem to have a root in alot of TNG episodes, trouble with my age i guess
