I thought about going to see "The Great Gatsby" today, but instead went to my local Blockbuster to see what they had. They happened to have "American Reunion" for $4.99 to purchase, and I couldn't refuse that price for a movie I've been meaning to see but it wasn't on Netflix, or in the Red Box machines. "American Reunion" wasn't bad at all, I was actually laughing the entire movie. It was better than the "American Pie Presents" films that's for sure. Overall, $5 well spent.spideynerd3

Wait... there's still a Blockbuster where you live?! :o

There's actually at least two of them... Shocking, I know. I'm waiting to hear that one of them is leaving so I can go there and get stuff at a good price.

Was going to see Pain and Gain but the movie theater switched the screen to Iron Man 3. My brother and I were in line for 20 minutes but ended up not seeing any movie.

Olympus was ok. Popcorn flick.

Iron Man 3 was really good. Much better than #2.

jack reacher- thought it was a full on action movie but turned out to have a great story and wasn't ruined by some corny terrible love storyline which I expected but didn't happen which was great, deff will watch this again

the impossible- I liked the tsunami part... and uhh after that I can't say many good things, it was decent but not worth watching unless you can skip parts

Nah, those were just "the rest". The movies I would label "bad" start at around Movie 43 or Spring Breakers. Most of them above that would fall under my "okay" category, while the legitimately "good" movies really don't even start until you get to Warm Bodies and above. ;)

So, I just got done watching "Silver Linings Playbook"... Honestly, it may just be one of the best films I have ever witnessed. I mean my expectations were pretty high going into it, but wow... Great film. It isn't for everyone, that's for sure, but it fullfilled what I like in a movie, and I can see why it got the praise it did.

Silver Linings was great!  It's one of the rare breed of Rom-com that got nominated for best film, and you can tell why!  The reason that movie is so great is because the supporting cast delivers just as much as Lawrence and Cooper.  I believe it was De Niro's best film in years.

I just saw Iron Man 3/Olympus Has Fallen at the Drive-In's and I must say...I was pretty unimpressed with both.  Olympus Has Fallen was cookie cutter blockbuster movie with not a really interesting plot.  I got an hour in and the movie put me to sleep.  Iron Man 3 was pretty sub-par.  It was fun to watch and all, it just felt like things weren't clicking with me.  Maybe it was because I hadn't seen the 2nd movie but I couldn't imagine things could be that much different.  I was sitting there and some of the choices were silly.  It felt like they made a third movie just to end the trilogy and it didn't even feel the end of a trilogy.

Star Trek Into Darkness was good, I suppose, but not nearly as much so as the previous movie. I would have preferred for this to try and be more original rather than spend so much time re-enacting moments from the old series. It became pretty cheesy and pretty cheap in that regard, but still, enjoyable nonetheless. Cumberbatch was great, but Karl Urban steals the show here.

The Hangover: Part III

Not as terrible as the second movie, but still not a good movie at all, really. It's also not an exact copy of the first movie again, but this thing just feels almost entirely devoid of actual humor. There were a couple of times where the film made me lightly chuckle, but I've already forgotten what those few moments even were.

Also, far too much Ken Jeong. That guy is just misery on screen. Blah.

So I'm kinda dumbfounded by the harsh negative reactions for After Earth. It's not great, but it is pretty solid overall, and certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I'd put it up there with Unbreakable among Shyamalan's best, if not possibly even better.

I think the negative reactions are coming from the fact that Will Smith was "held back" in the film, and his son was the star (which many people thing is no where near ready to be the star his dad is). After Earth looks interesting, but I have a feeling it is also a film that drags on. I haven't seen it, and don't really plan to, but I have no doubt the film is one of those, "the critics hated it because it didn't have enough *Insert "Major" movie star here* in it" films.

I'll actually disagree and place my assumption on the fact that it's a Shyamalan film, and the fact that a lot of people have an automatic bias against him. He doesn't exactly have a good track record as of late, plus he has a tencendy to come off as an overly arrogant dick in interviews and such, particularly when he was promoting The Last Airbender, in which he was also accused of being a racist on top of everything else, which has left an increasingly sour taste of movie-goers and critics' mouths over the years. I almost guarantee that had Shyamalan not directed it, a good portion of those negative reactions would be praising the opposite.

Smith's role was reduced, but he was hardly non-existant through the film, and Jaden surprised me by just how well he was able to hold his own. And as for it dragging on, I was worried about that as well going in, but it really couldn't be further from the truth. The movie is a breeze.

I've actually read several reviews that said specifically that "this is Shyamalan's best film in years", or don't even bring him up in the slightest. Shyamalan directing it could be part of the issue, but in all honesty, I don't think it is the only reason.

the new fast and the furious movie was so fake and cheesy at points you will laugh nonstop like the part on the bridge, and the cameo at the end made me facepalm because they just keep adding stars and dont focus on the movie or racing at all anymore. wayyyy too much rock and talking again but still a lot better than 5. hope they reboot them or something and do actual racing again instead of just a bunch of talking and feeding popular actors enough lines. without spoiling though they finally catch up to tokyo drift so the next movie will finally be a sequel while the past 3 were prequels.

i rank them 1>2>4>6>5>3 (if you even count tokyo drift as a F&F movie)

I still haven't seen 4 or 5, but of what I've seen, I'd still rate Tokyo Drift as the best in the series.

Furious 6 (as it was titled during the opening credits) was stupidly entertaining, though it was littered with pointless scene after pointless scene, and too much talking and sentimentality and not enough over the top action and street racing. Once the tank scene starts is when this thing finally shifts into gear, and it's a whole lot of fun from that point on.

Of the one's I've seen, I'd rate them as such.

12 Rounds 2: Reloaded-

So of course I picked up the Blu Ray version of the movie and it was absolutely fantastic. It's not PG by any means, and Randy Orton held his own very well. Terrific movie. I recommend it! smile.gif

not much to say about the new f & f that wasn't already said, these movies really just need to end, would like the people who made the 1st 2 films make a whole new racing franchise or something since there is no racing franchises out there left

1>2>3>4>6>5

(TD was actually a decent movie even though everyone was mad it was called f&f for no reason and hated most of the acting but the story was great)

i hated tokyo drift. they should have taken out the vin diesal cameo at the end and not added the asian guy to fast and furious and made it a separate movie.

The Internship

So this was a HELL of a lot better than I was expecting. Especially with the PG-13 rating, I was worried that this would be a watered down comedy, but it really isn't at all. I'm seriously having a hard time remembering the last time I laughed this loud and this hard at any movie, let alone a comedy in recent times. But this movie delivers from start to finish. Helluva fun movie.
