And another good thing about paying for Xbox Live is that it stops/discourages people from making multiple XBL accounts. I bet you get loads of that happening on PSN and Wii online...UltimateRAGEXhow is that a good or bad thing?

yup yup.8)
a few things first the 33 % failure rate was an estimation theres no solid evidence
also the 360 problems have mostly been fixed
and finally the ps3 cant compete with microsoft online live has so much more depth then psn and even with home it still wont be able to compete with live anywhere and the great features of xbl
sorry dude but u wasted 600 bucks
buth ey after u beat that 6 hour game mgs4 [ and i mean 6 hour gameplay since most of the game will be cut scenes] im sure it will be collecting dust on everyons shelves so enjoy the one decent game the ps3 is gonna have for a looong time

lol failstation. thats what you get for buying knock off walmart brands of a playstation.I don't mind paying for xbl.
I understand pc gaming online has been free in forever but at the same time the fact that it is free gives some real idiots with all the time in the world who have nothing better to do but spam online games or ruin the fun for everyone with hacks.
Although I am really basing this argument on the poor battle net and xfire.
As a former PS3 owner the online service is junk and probably would of kept my system if I had to pay for it and it was a little more functional...then again maybe I still would of traded in failstation
barbuane
but seriously, xbl is like toll roads to the extreme. you can have your car in your garage free of charge (other than buying it). but to take it out into your neighborhood that costs money. then you have to pay more to get on the super tollroads(toll road on a toll road).
if they gave out free themes, gamerpictures, map packs, free arcade games on occasion, i would feel the 50 a year is worth it. i would even be willing to pay more for conent from the market place if i could play my games online for free.
let me drive my car around for free, and im more likely to go hit up the toll roads. cause if im already paying to just drive around, i wont hit those super toll roads.
W've been playing online for ages now with PC for FREE. The only reason you pay to play online is because of extra added unecessary gimmicks.
I've said this before and I'l say this again... Would a game like Half-Life 2 been more enjoyable with Achievements? 10 points for hunting down every Barnacle in City 17! 10 points for fighting your way through Ravenholm using a crowbar!
[QUOTE="ethanraiden"]I'm going to call you a lier when you tell me that you'd rather pay for something than have it for free, it makes no sense if you're a snae person whatsoever. And also it wouldn't be hard for MS to make it free of charge, all they'd have to do is cut off the gold subscription, just because of MS's shortfailings when it come to making an inadequite console, doesn't mean that gives them the right for them to make us pay for thier hardware failuers.DepressedHippie
I agree so whole heartedly. I'm sounding like a broken record here so after this I wil shut up,but...*deep breath*This stuff has been free on the PC for forever! PSN dosen't suck because its free, it sucks because its SONY! If your going to compare XBL to something compare it to something competent like PC gamming. Has everyone forgotten the era of free online gaming, and free downloadable content. How can any one defend this, its twisting my mind like a pretzel! yep now im done please commence with the flaming

No joke, i do enjoy paying for LIVE for various reasons
1) Paying for it encourages you to make the most of it and use your 360 online to the full extent
2) It ensures that other gamers who pay for membership could more serious gamers (though thats not always the case though, sadly)
3) MC may be a big piggybank, but from membership it ensures its financially stable, ensuring better service, faster connection, and also the 3 year guarantee is a major bonus, which was mainly possible due to people paying for LIVE (MC lost billions in repairing 360s, loses money on each console it sells, and money for games goes often to 3rd party develoers)
4) The gamerscore system is so sweet and addictive, its kind of like paying MC back for having such a great system
I doubt many of you will agree with me, but its annoying seeing people whine about how LIVE should be free without thinking about how this would affect the overall service (content, speed etc).
Oh and by the way before you ask, I dont work for Microsoft. Im a poor college student :P

Actually I think Microsoft makes money off of each 360 it sells.
The only reason XBL requires you to pay to play online is because of the unecessary added gimmicks.PullTheTricker...and what part of that costs? I mean we have free email, free IM, free HD storage online, free word processors and spreadhseets, you think it costs a games worth a year to store numbers?
I'm 100% sure that I would prefer to have it free than pay. Idk if I'm going to even renew it. I hardly play games online now. I guess if I get into Halo 3 then I probably would.cwagmireyou and me both.

I wanna start my opinion to this topic by telling UltimateRAGEX that he is wrong on this point. It actually ENCOURAGES people to make many XBL accounts because Microsoft put a "1 month of gold for free for new accounts," making little kids decide to make a new account every freakin month.

Now, as for the topic, I agree that I do not mind paying for Xbox Live, seeing how I was paying for it back in Counterstrike/Rainbow Six 3 days(before Halo 2). A service like Xbox Live was amazing back in those days, making it worth paying for, with a unified friends list, (almost) garanteed voice chat for every player, Downloadable content, and so on. Now, coming to this generation, I decided to turn on my Playstation 3, and after the usual hassle I run into(An error has occured: can't log into PSN aka "I don't like linksys router so I'm not going online with it"...force system to go online) Motorstorm comes on. Waiting on painfully long update for Motorstorm...go faster...its been like 5 min...watch the internet kick out...alright, I was going to check and see if PSN had unified Friends list because if I remember, I had to add friends on Resistance seperate from XMB. Seeing how I don't bother going online on PS3 since hardly anybody, including me, had any way to chat with each other before Warhawk came out with an included headset, I thought it would be wise to check, but if this update(now 10 min) is gonna take this long and I'm not going to try that stupid "open ports" thing because I couldn't log into the system after that...*sigh* this isn't bashing of the system because I enjoy my PS3 (can't wait for Folklore and Uncharted!!!!), this just makes me cry...when my X360 logs on and can updates games under 1 minute and my PS3 can't even handle logging in and updates take 5 mins of downloading AND installing...Yea, motorstorm finally finished updating...what? reset my Playstation 3 to finish installion? what is that?...
alright, enough of that. I agree with topic creator, you pay for what you get...end of line.

So, you're complaining about a router you're not configuring right, which no doubt isnt running with your PS3 in DMZ which forces slow downloads as anyone knows, then you goto the game released on day 1 which was released without any PSN code in it to check PSN features, the complain when all this adds up to you getting problems... wow, seems like the PS3 needs to trade YOU in.[QUOTE="magic_dragon"][QUOTE="GlassDominion"][QUOTE="magic_dragon"]No joke, i do enjoy paying for LIVE for various reasons

1. i dissagree. i dont feel compelled to go online jsut to make paying for it worth it.
2. no, it does no such thing. see halo2 and gears of war 12 year olds as a refrence.
3. Faster connection is BS, its about your connection on your end, and the connections of the other people.
even if i didnt pay for live i would still get coverage. i dont find it right im paying for some one elses dead console.
4. thats nothing big and worth paying for. PS HOME will have those for free.
Im sorry, but in point 4 did you just say that PS3 has gamerscore for free? This isn't system wars, and obviously you have something against the 360 from your sig and Snake user pic, so im not going to pay much attention to a Sony fanboy. Sure it annoys me like heck that 360 has problems with hardware issues but I've had none for more than a year, and if i do have problems, so what? Im enjoying it while it lasts.
i made point 4 showing thats not something that should be worth 50dollars a year.
i have snake as my picture because i like snake. and as i have explained before, after going through 4 xbox360s (had to buy a 2nd one because MS didnt cover one of the issues my 2nd 360 had) i chose the ps3 because it was reliable. i have spoke nothing bad about the 360, so for you to just throw out my argument suggests you have no rebuttle to my points.
LOL How on Earth did you go through 4 consoles? In case you didn't know the 360 is not the WII you can't just throw it around and expect it to work:P

1st one had graphics issues, gamestop took it back
2nd one started scratching disks even when it was sitting still (not dumb enough to move my console with a game moving in it)
3rd one had a broken disk drive and would only read my games when it felt like it.
im currently on number 4, and hes been on all of 2 hours.
Yes if Xbox Live was free we would get a crap service like the Playstation Network.DaRockWilderSo what are you paying for, what part of that service is taking cash? Most of not all is available on other platforms for nothing, so what stuff is MS charging for?
M$ shouldn't be charging PC,Nintendo and PS3 don't charge and can do anything as good or better than XBL theres no real reason to pay for it, except for gimmicks. I love Live don't get me wrong but i hate hate paying for it.Solid_Max13
i own a ps3 and a 360 and PSN is dirt compared to Xbox Live
Isn't it MS? Like MicroSoft and not MC, NVM I'm nitpicking.
Anyway I don't really enjoy paying for it, but I don't think it's that much if you use it alot.
What cool content? We're just paying for multiplayer on Gold. Silver has everything else.fauxkidexactly and thats my biggest issue. why do i have to pay to play my game? they could cover the costs of the servers with all the downloadable content stuffs.

i agree i mean in never like paying for anything but come on xbox live is like cents a day for a service that you cant get anywhere else anybody who says you can is lying because ive played online on all 3 and if teh other 3 get to xbox lives level im sure they will start making you pay tooGen007and this is where we point to what you pay for.
silver has access to the store, downloadable content, patches, dashboard updates, etc. all they cant do is play the game.
Wii lets you play the game for free.
ps3 lets you play the game for free.
PC lets you play for free
PSP and DS are the same way. xbox is the only one you pay to play online.
xbox360 only costs money yearly if you want to play the game.

Nintendo on the toher hand is making enough money per console to pay for a suers net use for a long time, game profit on top of that will make paying for it unnecessary.

okay but who likes paying out their own pocket nobody thats why they hate paying out their pocket to put people online and still after playing on psn then xbox live theres a huge gap there now i think sony will try stealing some more stuff from xbox live but theres only so much they can do

Youll notice many PS3 games have had scoring systems pop up recently among other things.

no joke, of course sony will. sony and nintendo never really jumped into the online last generation but MS has been doing it all along. sony will look to see what MS is doing and aim to have a similar service for its users. you listen to pod casts and interviews sony admits they need to make the service better. they said they were working on the universal friends list, more content in the store, etc.
