I never write reviews. I actually set up this account just to review this game. I am an older gamer (mid 30's). I can take you back to the old Tandy days and the orginal sega and nintendo platforms. I have seen them all when it comes to games and gaming. I grew up to horror games and I can only recall a few games that gave me the creeps while playing them. The orginal Resident Evil, Doom 3, the first Condemned, and now Dead Space. Yes, there were a few games along the way that had a few creepy parts but nothing like these four games. Silent Hill was ok but didn't creep me out that much.
Dead Space is amazing. I don't know why everyone is comparing this game to other games but the only game I can even come close to comparing it to is Doom 3. Doom 3 was creepy and very dark (you actually go to Hell in the game) but Dead Space takes the cake. The first day I bought it, I took it home and it was around 11pm. I popped it in and I had the lights off and turn the surround sound on. I knew and heard it may be creepy but I think with the dark lighting and the sounds and music really make this game stand out. You really become careful about going around a corner too fast. You even walk slower and listen carefully to noises. After about a hour of playing I actually cut my sound down and turned on the dim lighting in the room. I wasn't really scared that something was in my house or anything but it gives you the feeling that you are really there in that game. (Especially with no HUD) I didn't even plan on buying this game until 2 days before it came out. I also bought Saint's Row 2 and it sucks in my opinion. I don't even play it much. Dead Space is awesome. Yeah it has it's flaws. Some of the monsters seem repetative and look the same but it does't take away from the game at all. I know we are all going to go broke this Fall and Winter with all the games coming out but this is one you do not want to miss. Get it!

Very inspiring...especially how you mentioned Doom 3, which is what I was hoping someone else would say. I LOVED Doom 3...i don't care what all the complainers had to say about its flaws, its a damn fine game that carried the series into the next generation. In any case, if you're saying that Dead Space is on par with Doom 3 at its time, i'll be getting it for sure.
well i just got past what i think was the first boss and wow i was actually pretty scared even though its obvious what you have to do to it. Gen007

Beat your friend over the head with a 2x4 for stealing games. I hope he gets his computer jacked by the government with the new bill that just passed.

Gen007, its ok it just sounded like you were. Can't wait for Far Cry and Fable seems like they will both be what I was hoping for. I have the same feeling towards Fallout 3 as well. As for Dead Space, I'm still undecided been hearing a lot of good, but theres jsut too many games.Kaos39
ANybody here finished dead space?? how many hours did it took you to finish it?Arctic_Grillz
playing on normal=12-15
playing on hard first time through=17-20+
but this game is kinda like re4 in that you WILL want to play it again on the new unlocked "impossible" difficulty setting after beating it, and also, apparently if you want to find out every detail of the plot and max out your suit you need to play through it again
the game actually does have replay value, surprisingly
I'm planning on starting on hard instead of medium. But I don't really want to make the game super hard. So is hard really hard, like dying all the time or what? The ones who have finished it. What do you think will make a better first play through experience, playing on medium or hard? I just don't wanna get frustrated with dying all the time. All I want is to get really creeped out and for it to be challenging and the 150G achievement :)elmafia
Z-Grav Basketball:DMarty_Mo
QUESTION. where is that?
I'm on chapter 2 and i got to one z-grav part...but what is this whole basketball thing I've heard about. I've heard about it, but never got any real details

Hey, does Fallout 3 still have the "Fallout brand" of humor?

So if I want to play the game twice but not on the same difficulty I'll have to play medium? Thats really stupid. Extreme mode should unlock if your playing on hard. Guess I'll play on medium then extreme instead of hard then extreme.

that's not really a problem for me. back at playing hard then extreme :). Or maybe just hard. There are so many other games coming that I don't think I'll have time to play it again. So I'll try to make the first run really long. thanks for the help anyway

No problem, the game is really that good. I agree, Doom 3 was a really good game that had some real creepy parts. I can't say I like any other doom game but Doom 3 was awesome. Also, I do not know where the confusion came from but I do not have Far Cry 2 nor any other unreleased game. All I said was that we are all going to be dropping down some cash on all these new games coming out but I do not have them yet so I am not sure how people thought I meant I already have those games. Out of all the new games, I was surprised because I did't even know about Dead Space until 2 days before it came out and then i saw the video and was hooked. Last but not least, someone made a comment as to why it was scary. It isn't really the monsters (well maybe the bosses) but its more of the dark environments, sound, and music. There are some parts in the game where the lights go completely out and you are there in the dark, it's crazy but very cool. You can use the light from your weapon but it isn't all that bright so be prepared for something to jump out at you. I guarantee, if you play this game at night, turn up the sound and turn off the lights, you will get creeped out!

Is there a store in the first level? I already upgraded my gun and did the first main objective.II-FBIsniper-II
Just finished the first level about fifteen minutes ago. I saw the store and bought the plasma rifle(?) but I saved for later. I love the game so far.II-FBIsniper-II
[QUOTE="XxSTILL_BORNxX"][QUOTE="mohfrontline"]hmm. I'm low on money, I would rather get Gears 2. But when I get the money this is a sure buy for me.BioShockOwnz
I'm getting GOW2, but I'm not even very excited about it. I guess I just like "fresher" experiences more than mostly more of the same. More of the same isn't bad, but I just prefer new IP's to sequels.
Ok Richie McMoneybags! :P:D
I'm having to wait to play both SR2 and DS. I'm completely broke and there's still FarCry2, Fallout 3, Midnight Club LA, Fable II and a few others before the end of the month. I'll probably only get Fallout 3 and buy the rest next year or when stores are having sales this holiday season.
