Don't. The GS review is BS, they constantly underate stuff. The average review seems to be around 8.5. This review sounds like chest thumping from a PC player whining and moaning about something being too simple. But we all know how well other (complicated) strategy games fare on consoles. If you only play strategy games on PC you may be dissapointed by what feels incomplete. However console gamers can breathe easily knowing we'll be playing a RTS at anything above 5 frames a second with unresponsive controls. If you've played PC RTS and you expect it to be as in depth, you'll be let down. If you've never played an RTS, or know to expect a lighter RTS made for consoles, then you'll love it.
The review is definitely unfair. It seems they graded it on the same scale as if it were a PC game. Do they grade Wii games as if they were the same scale as 360/PS3 games? Nope.

I think you should use reviews as guidelines and not hard facts for your own interpretation of the game, at least thats what i do. I've never met this reviewer in my life so why should i base my decision on his thoughts. I know how a game is once i pop it in my console and get a feel for it myself. If your a big fan of halo then definetly get it, there is nothing stopping... Unless this reviewer literally holds you back that is.
I think the gamespot review should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Through out its development ensamble were contantly emphasising that halowars was meant to be simple so as to fit game consoles better than any console RTS before but for some reason the dude reviewing it seems to be comparing it to a pc game.
He might be right, but I dont know if he's really reviewing it as a console game or hes simply a pc RTS player

why being influenced by this review?PEOPLE just like everyone make the reviews, theres no aliens behind it, and gs has some weird reviews, but on the topic, if you liked the demo, you like halo and rts this game is great, and anyway check igns score-8.4, quite a difference right? still, dont let yourself be influenced by reviews, sure they show stuff bout the game but not all[QUOTE="Dilan120"]

I agree with you, infact I think from the sound of it the game is fine and shall be going for it as soon as I'm paid :)In science, somtimes numbers are to far away from the medium to even be considered counting.
Gamespot not only had the single worst review for Halo Wars, but also was very far below the average of 8.2 with their rediculous 6.5 Perhaps they were right, but science says otherwise.
...for God's sake.
Why are you COMPAIRING REVIEWS?
Reviews are based on one expert's opinion, and one expert doesn't make all the reviews, different people like different games and different people like it different ways.
If you're compairing reviews and you're saying that he's a [insert console] fanboy because he didn't like the long waited exclusive for [insert console], you're a fanboy yourself.
Jesus.
Play it and think with your own head wether it's good or not.

i dont care either way and i dont plan on buying or even playing the game
but, all the things they listed under "bad" didnt seem bad enough to merit a 6.5
something smells a lil fishy to me

An expect would not be comparing a console RTS to PC, and reviewing the game on what it doesn't have doesn't seem professional.
Other sites that have reviewed it have gave it higher reviews, and some lower. I think this one was harder to review because it is a RTS built from the ground up for console. Not many games has done that so what do you know to look for other than traditional RTS standards which usually work better on PC

So an FPS with one weapon shouldn't be scored lower for a lack of variety? That's how I feel about Halo Wars. You're limited to putting your buildings in a preset base. There's like 5 different units with one upgrade at the most. Only one playable faction for campaign with a whopping two total for skirmish. This game lacks any variety and any complexity that can be found in countless RTS games made years before it.Gameplay was so bland in the demo that I felt like smashing my head against my wall over and over and over... But no, really. I saw this 6.5 coming. This is when we can all say for sure that there will never be another good Halo game.xRmRxfreakBOMBLETS SEE ABOUT THAT *SHARP EYES*
Don't follow revies just play it for yourself, half the time reviews are off compared to what most people think. I disagree with the majority of gamespots reviews but its decent to see what people think.Playing as the flood would be just like playing as any other faction. Alternate reality? How about multiple endings?
When looking at the good vs. bad comparison by gamespot it seems that their major problems are not with the game play, just with additional stuff that could have been their. Honestly, how would make playing as the flood possible and practicale? Playing as the convent doesn't make sense since it would have to have the convenant win, which would be an alternate reality?Un4givingAsault

All other reviewers gave it good scores but gamespot ended up pulling a random.
"Halo Wars is a fun playthrough for casual real-time strategy and Halo fans, but there's not enough depth to win over hardcore strategy buffs."
Took this from the review and it about sums it up. I'm not a RTS buff but I did enjoy civ rev which this game has about a third of depth that civ has. I think they could have been a little harsh but they are being honest. Like the quoted statement unless your a huge halo fan your probibly going to be disappointed.

Have you even played an RTS game before this? All Halo Wars is, is a stripped down RTS for casuals meant to make money off of all the blind Halo fanboys.Playing as the flood would be just like playing as any other faction. Alternate reality? So all reviewers must be in agreement? The reviewer found the game to be really shallow (which in all honesty it is) and found it hard to enjoy an RTS with that amount of simplicity. After looking at all the reviews it might end up being a bargin bin game for me but no way would I pay 60 for something so gimped compared to other RTS games I have played in the past.

I have never even played halo. I love the age of empires series. And this game does great on a console. THATS the point.
Naive PC fanboy .
I dunno, it seems that this guy was expecting AoE, but with a controller. His pros and cons make sense, but I don't see how it stacks up to a 6.5 rating. Even the awards are wrong. The game is short, but still sucks you in and you get lost in it? Is that even possible?
The demo is hella fun, and I can see the game sucking me in. If you only play Hardcore RTS games, why even bother? Just wait for Starcraft 2. Not all RTS games have to be about micromanagement. I do agree on the grouping thing.

If I were a PC fanboy why would I be on here? Why would I have my gamertag in my sig? I find it hard to believe that you have never played Halo. I'm not just speaking of PC RTS games that have been way better, but also the ones for 360 like C&C3 and Battle for Middle Earth. Please Log In to post.
