I have installed Gears2 but I didnt see any improvements. The 360 is as loud as ever and I cant even play gears2 splitscreen without experiencing horrible FPS's. Am I doing something wrong?kunggustaf
You must have a bad disc or your system is dying. Or you could be accidentally playing it off the DVD instead of the HDD. Splitscreen works fine for me.

I have the 20GB as well and I installed my bud's COD4 on it, I went to go play it at my house an hour later or so. I clicked on it and it said, "Insert Call of duty 4 disc to continue" I dont know what the point of putting games on your harddrive is if you still need the disc. My question is, Is this a problem or did this happen to you aswell. And, If you do need the disc, what is the point of putting games on your HDD? dysp1994
The points is that it reduces loading times/texture pop in, the drive isn't running so it isn't loud, and there are some other advantages. Did you really think Microsoft would be stupid enough to let you play without a disc? Why not just give the games away for free then.
I did PGR4 and load times are WAY better. It used to take upwards of a minute to load a race and now it takes less then 15 seconds. Unfortunately since I only have a 20GB harddrive I'll only be able to have 1 or 2 games installed at once. The installs are actually quite huge (Halo 3 6.9GB, PGR4 6.0 GB). It took about 9 minutes for each one to install.howlrunner13
you are not suppose to install halo 3 to ur HDD, because the load time for everymap gets worst, even bungie them selft said it.i suggest you delete it.

Yeah I know. It was the first the thing I did just to see what size it was and how it was withoutthe drive running and to see if it made any difference for campaign.

My 360 still makes loud noices even when I play from the harddrive, however it isnt strange when I think about it. My console was made in 2005...
I installed Fable II. It was very loud and very anoying, but now it is so much more silent. Loading time is the same or at least not enough for me to notice. Yea Micro is not that stupid not to require the disc. Could you imaging renting a game and allowing all your friends to copy it. That would have been awsome for us but Micro is in the buisness of well being a buisness who wants to make money.

Or, like you just tried, to rip your buddy's game and play it at home. The purpose is to reduce load times and make the console quieter, not to let ten people split the cost of a game and rip it on each other's system.

Not to mention allowing such things would inevitably kill the 360. No one would buy games, then developers would stop making them, then you would never have anything new to play. It would be the PSP all over again.
I installed COD4 and Gears of War. I saw no improvement except the disc didn't spin so there wasn't the semi truck level noise. I'm about to try it on Oblivion and see if it cuts down on the loading times.mohfrontline
It greatly cuts down on load times and also makes the game itself run so much smoother.
I installed Cod4, its great, no sound at all from the disk drive. But I have one question. Say, like in the future I want to remove Cod4 from my hard drive, will delete all my saved games?kamikaze-jk
No. If you check it under your memory tab the installed game is a seperate file from your saved game file.
