I know, I know. But before you think I'm crazy, I have a legitimate purpose to kill my Xbox 360.

Actually, it's more like euthanasia because my Xbox 360 is slowly dying. Recently, on the start-up menu, I got a checkerboard pattern and that's when I started to have problems. Now, I notice that it takes a long time for textures to load in certain games and it's starting to freeze - even on the dashboard.

I'm pretty sure these are symptoms of a dying 360, but can anyone shed some light? Is my 360 doomed or should I not worry? If my 360 is doomed to the gates of hell, then I just want to get it over with so that I can send it in, get it repaired, and play Mass Effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Leave it on a whole day? Put teh famous towels around it to keep it hot, place it on top of a DVD and watch a few movies, etc. I am too worried about my xbox getting RROD especially now with so many good games to play!

I know! I'm not angry because I know it will be taken care of, but I wish this didn't happen now.

As for the towel trick, I though it had the reverse effect on the 360. Like it magically brings it back to life.

Good solution, but I don't think Microsoft would accept that for repairs.

Get a game that will not work properly with the hardware (It happened with me with Lost planet, but I didn't want that to happen.)

I am also trying to force the RROD process because my disk drive is broken and I already filed for a free red ring repair. I have gotten the rings to come up a couple times but everytime they go away. I'm currently leaving my xbox on but I want to speed it up.

Just call em anyway and tell them you've had it. When they ask you to turn it on and what the powerbrick is doing, tell them you have a green light. They'll send you the coffin.

That's funny because BioShock wouldn't load the textures to quick. Do you have the same symptoms?

Nah it was working just fine (actually exceptionally well, no stutering or freezing for once) until I got past the part where you get locked in the dark video room and the splicers try to break in (about 30-40 minutes in). In the room after that I tried to search a body and a checkered screen popped up for about half a second with a nice shreek and it shut down. Then when I tried to turn it back on I got the RROD. I was pretty pissed since I'd been waiting for the game for about 2 months from gamefly and it broke so soon

It was one of those situations where I had received about 6 games while I was hoping for bioshock and when I finally got it my 360 died. I couldn't help but laugh at the situation haha:)

It should only take another day or so.

Next time but it at Best Buy and get the warranty plan. My two year warranty ends in January but my Xbox is running slow and is incredibly loud. I've been waiting for them to offer the two free games with the Elite so I can take back my pro bundle and only spend the $50 more + tax. Nice part about waiting till after the price drop is technically my version of the Xbox (no HDMI input on mine) is no longer in the store so they have to give me full dollar value on what I paid rather than just offering me the replacement. And then I get Forza and Marvel Alliance game, not exactly dying to play either but I'll just loan it out to friends and let them take adavantage.

HaHaHa, that happened to my old 360 too, it was load as hell, hen a few days later it croaked,

When it was away at MS, I missed the Bioshock release, but they gave me a brand new Forza 2 along with a new console,

if you send it to be fixed, DON'T send your hard drive, that way you can keep your Saves and GP

Put your 360 in a NON-Ventilated area. So that it will over-heat and break.

UPDATE

After about 15 minutes in a blanket, my Xbox 360 showed me two red rings, which means that the internal temperature far exceeds the acceptable limit.

Now what?

I don't know why you covered it with a towel...that was to FIX the RROD issue temporarilyas it gives the internal temp a chance to resolder the contact points or something like that.

I think leaving it on is you're only choice but since you have no way of taxing the GPU now, I think you may have to keep it wrapped and hope for the best

  • place 360 near your house's natural gas line
  • rupture the line
  • place any other flammable objects (polyester clothing, newspapers, household pets, parents, etc.) near ruptured gas line (make sure to tie them up with duct tape for best effect)
  • place incendiary source in the path of ruptured gas line (matches, fireworks, lighter); add lighter fluid, gasoline, hair spray, or any other accelerant deemed necessary
  • watch hilarity ensue

If the suggestions in this thread don't work, go see the other thread: "500 ways to get red rings of doom." The suggestions over there are much better; especially the part that says "stick your dick in the 360." Haha.

Turn it on and leave it in a enclosed area. I have 2. I have a premium which I have had since launch with no problems.I have the core(for my kids), which fell subject to the RROD in just 3 months. The difference was that I keep my premium on a stand by itself next to my HDTV. The core was in a entertainment center where the heat couldn't escape. So I would suggest maybeplacing some towels around it and leaving it running, but like the other guys have said, do not burn your house down!
