I don't understand why Gears is as popular as it is

I got that game last November and at first I was like "HOLY CRAP THIS GAME IS AWESOME! LOOK AT ALL THE GORE! THIS CHAINSAW BAYONET IS SWEET!" Then later that day I hooked up to the internet and made a live account. The multiplayer was pretty crappy because you got 1 life and if you died you didn't respawn. Then after about a week I just got sick and tired of the game because it seemed like the entire game was based around testosterone, masculinity, and gore.

Try playing something other then Execution/ Warzone (non respawn) then... All the low level players play Annex/KOTH (respawn) . But thanks for sharing your opinion.

I can relate to you somewhat. While I do not think this is one of the best games out on the market, I certainly do not think its the worst. The gameplay, IMO, outweighs the story. Which isnt saying much, cuz I have a few major gripes about the gameplay. In regards to the story, however, I understand that its still unfinished, and we do not know everything...yet. With that being said, after playing both games and reading the novel, the gears of war storyline reminds of a B-movie script for a film you would see on the SyFy Network.....not horrible, but not great either. In regards to the gameplay, the two major gripes I have are the cover/run system, and the fact that its 3rd person. The 3rd person thing doesnt bug me that much but I prefer 1st person. The are few other qualms have about the game, like multiplayer spawn points and spawning in general. I have to be honest with myself, however, and must admit that I am being very critical. The campaign itself (especially GoW 2), IMO, was awesome. The multiplayer, despite its flaws, can still be lots of fun. Overall, I would have to give the GoW series a 8/10......no more no less. Even though there are other games that I play more often than GoW, it is still a game that I will keep in my library and enjoy from time to time.

It does seem like practically every character in the GoW Universe is on steroids though doesnt it???? LOL.....maybe there is something in the water???

As with any game....some people like it....some people don't. I guess it's not to hard to figure out which group you fall in!!! lol

and i dont understand why MW or halo are as popular as they are?

gears is pretty fun , and i totally suck at shooters

GoW, CoD, and Halo are ALL good games. Its like MARKRECON posted....its just boils down to a matter of opinion. Take myself for example: 1--Halo 2--CoD 3--GoW. But thats just me. Just because I prefer Halo over CoD and GoW doesnt mean I dont enjoy and respect what they bring to the table.

I think it might be the entire idea of cover because I love RF:G which is a 3rd person shooter also

It's a very unique, action packed shooter, even with all its imitators. I don't know what else to say other than it's fun. I understand how the multiplayer can frustrate people though, there's a bit of a learning curve.Englando_IV

I wonder the same because I just don't find it nearly as fun since everyone just CONSTANTLY talks **** all the time. It gets really annoying and it seems like 95% of the people are like... 13-16. Because they just overall act like it....

On an issue that was brought up, I think the one life in deathmatch is annoying. If you die early in a match, you get to sit around for five minutes while it plays out; I thought 20-second respawns in Team Fortress were bad. If you suck at Gears multiplayer (like me), you spend more time not playing...than playing. That's boring. Because it was boring, I never put any time into it to get good.

Gears is one of my favorite shooters "BUT" it's "FAR" from being innovative. Goggle a game called Killswitch and you'll see what I mean.Surprisingly the game wasn't that bad...just went under the radar.

Because it's fun. I personally like the Warzone/Execution modes. (like annex more) It can get frustrating, but it's still quite fun.

I think Gears 2 has great multi-player. EPIC has fixed the lag, match-making and glitching issues, and I love the round based multi-player. I think Gears 2 is so popular because of how different it is.

the campaign was enjoyable. The online community is horrible. I get yelled at everytime I play online but I cant fault the game for that. The one single thing I dislike is all the barrel rolls that everyone does online. it's annoying watching everyone roll like sonic the headghog and shot gun each other.

I never played Warzone/Execution. I always played Guardian because that seemed to be the most popular game mode. It's quite fun IMO. Just ignore the trash talkers

I never got beyond the tutorial, I tried it a couple of times and always thought: "Naaaah, this sucks, let's play something else now."

Gears really disappointed me. I heard lots of good things about it, but then when I played it, I realised that it was actually bull****. Multiplayer was terrible. The health system and combat system make one big mess. You shoot a person for ages but he doesn't die, and in the end he just does a roll or flip to cover and kills you. And how can you do big flips when you can't even do a small jump?

The game seems completely based on blood and guts and has no point except killing.

I've been playing Gears for YEARS, and I never even got 'decent' until say, 2 months ago. And the same goes with all of my other friends and acquaintances, and most of them are gods in the shooter genre. Not to mention, it's kinda hard to get good at a game when most of it's population is already better than you, and getting a kill is actually a real challenge. (Minus the lucky chainsaw).

And on top of that, learning to manoeuvre effectively is a challenge in itself.

Wow one of your minuses is you only have 1 life, just proves that cod4 and games with fast respawn have ruined online shooters.

I my opinion it's like all the other AAA titles out there (e.g. Halo, GoW, COD, Bioshock), it still is a very good game, but it is over-rated and there are better things out there.

your supposed to get good at the game not play it once then set it down and never play it again :D
