In my opinion, Legendary should be the standard difficulty for Halo / FPS games.

I just finished Reach, and I think it's an overall perfect shooter, I couldn't be happier. It just made me think about how easy other games are compared to it though, and thats why I think it would be way better if the extreme difficulty was the standard for all FPS games, because it intensifies the action and makes you play alot more stategically.

Am I the only one who thinks that games these days are far to easy ? Who agrees !?!

I actually agree...Halo Reach on Legendary was very easy I guess IMO. I just love extremely hard games and I CAN'T FIND ANY THAT ARE!!! =(

Making the regular difficulty setting incredibly hard is a surefire way to lock out potential new players, which means diminishing returns on games and potentially long-reaching negative effects on the industry. It'll never happen (or at least I hope it doesn't).

Games are easy because there's no need for insanely difficult/frustrating games. Back in the day games were hard because they were short, so they needed difficulty to add replayability to them.

Legendary wouldn't work for every FPS game. Halo actually has real AI, a lot of FPS don't. They have that cheap AI that knows where you are at all times, have 1000% accuracy and so on. It would just be flat out cheap to the point where it wouldn't even be worth playing.

couldn't think of a worse idea... if the games offer a "legendary" difficulty setting and a normal one who are you to tell other players they shouldn't be allowed to use it? You pick the one you like and they pick the one you like.

i died a good bit on normal, so i think i would of never finished the game on legendary, or probably just get annoyed at constantly dieing and never attempted to finish it therefore ruining the gameplay

Halo: Reach on Legendary SUCKED BALLS. The difficulty wasn't the problem -- that was easy to get by, after you got used to it -- but you didn't feel as a S P A R T A N as you played it. I can't see a member of the Noble Six having to hide behind a half destroyed wall and picking off grunt by grunt with controller bullet bursts -- I see him rushing in and tearing them apart, with melee attacks and assassinations, followed by a couple of grenades and some heavy fire.

Normal was and continues to be my favorite mode for Halo.

It has different options for different people, imo though heroic should be the standard difficulty. I think all games should start out harder and force you to switch to an easier difficulty instead of starting you off on an easy difficulty and forcing you to increase the difficulty.

No. Heroic with the one skull on (just the Grunt birthday party) makes it a challenge. If you want a proper Halo challenge, beat it Mythic (Legendary with EVERY skull on) solo!

Bungie has made it clear that they don't care about bringing in new players. Many times, submissions and feedback from new players' perspectives on recent Halo games has been met with a similar distaste and, to paraphrase, a response similar to telling someone to "omfg lern2play noob", pretty much discarding any such requests. I suppose if they really wanted to, they could make the campaign that hard. It would be a cop-out to making a good campaign, something they forgot how to do since the first Halo.

Silly idea. Games wouldn't be fun if the standard difficulty was extreme. It would be more frustrating than anything.

No. Just because you like games being really difficult doesn't mean thats how everyone else should enjoy them. Besides, while legendary was tougher I honestly didn't think it made it any more fun. It just mean you pretty much had to use the plasma pistol against, effectively forcing you to use the DMR and plasma pistol almost all the way through.

Just because Bungie hasn't built Halo to specifically cater to your taste doesn't mean they don't care about bringing in new players.

You're ASSuming that I was the one that made such a submission of feedback to Bungie in the first place. The problem is that some of the suggestions were in fact legitimate, such as measures to more accurately gauge relative skill, and enforcing tighter skill level groupings. I can tell you from experience that Halo matchmaking has never been really effective at grouping people at a given "skill" range, with far too many times ending up in 20-level-wide spreads, even when the friends I was online with were at most two levels away from me. It also doesn't seem to make a weighted average of said skill/experience with the different game types. Far too many times, the people I played that were supposed to be about my same skill level turn out to have much higher rankings in the match types that I don't care to play on (i.e. heinously high on lone wolves, but never actually touched team objective play types). This is the kind of crap that burned me out on Halo Multiplayer, and that's without calling into account how poorly the game handles lag spikes or any given person dropping out of a game. That as well made me want to never again get a gold subscription. Only reason I have one now is because I was able to get a prepaid card at the college bookstore for an absurdly cheap price. Since Microsoft jacked up the membership fee, I have even less reason to renew.

So all it takes is you getting matched up with players of a different skill level for you to dislike the multiplayer? Did you even try to play social or just enjoy the game instead of concentrating on what rank the other players were? Personally, I've rarely had trouble getting matched up with players of my own skill level in ranked matches though, but going in with a party will stretch the pool of skill ranks, obviously, and if the game can't find an exact match up it's just going to keep stretching that pool.

On the other end of the spectrum I've run into this problem in pretty much every shooter ever so I don't see how it's fair to really specifically criticize Halo over this. Considering you never played Reach though it kinda feels like you just came into this thread to complain about Halo(and practically claim a game's campaign you never played was bad)... Not that this would be a first for you.

Oh, and censor bypassing? Cute.

I have to disagree op. Thats why there are multiple difficulty levels, to cater to as many people as possible..not just extreme hardcore gamers. You play your game how you like and I will play mine how I like.

Very few, and I mean, very few, developers would allow the only difficulty to be "extreme". This would turn away so many casual gamers and those that just want to play to have fun. Making it the standard as in you start off on that, but can change it to normal or easy is more understandable but still highly unlikely. Devs want people to give their games a chance. Throwing them to the wolves right from the get go isn't the right step. You want to ease your way into it. Not every game should be a Demon Souls type of game.

I think people of all skill levels should be able to enjoy a game and beat it. I think games should stick with what they have going on now, have options for everyone. Besides, one way I master a game is by starting on an easier difficulty and working my way up by figuring things out. I probably wouldn't play a game thats difficulty is insane, and whats the fun in being frustrated while you play anyway?

Why not just keep the dificulty levels as they are, and let the customer select what they are comfortable playing?

Dumb idea locking a game to the most difficult level.

Legendary for me just ended up being high stress levels as i "hope" i can make it to the next checkpoint. If all games were forced to be played on a difficulty where i had to do that, i wouldn't bother with games anymore. Then again i prefer easy on all games so i can play quick with little time loss and very little frustration. Nothing was fun at all or gave me a feeling of satisfaction from beating Reach on Legendary.

I don't have to play Reach... not anymore. After watching Yahtzee's review of the game, it told me all I needed to know. The campaign is once again bastardized in favor of a multiplayer full of **** who've nothing better to do than to cheat, grief and kill someone to squat over their ragdoll's faces. Even in Team Objective map types, there were often too many douche bags that never played to the objective and just focused on killing everything that moved, camping spawn points, or just went TK'ing via vehicular manslaughter. Nevermind that the game deliberately makes it inconvenient to simply mute the 'tards that either blare music on their voice channel or more hate speech per minute than in any given speech presented by the KKK. After what Bungie did to bastardize and mutilate the campaign of Halo 3, I have no intention of ever playing one of those games on my console again. A $60USD game has no reason to excuse a sub-standard singleplayer component in favor of multiplayer, which inherently is fraught with factors beyond the programmer's control. Much like Yahtzee, I feel that a game that is asking that much for its price had better have one hell of a singleplayer component or I'm going to be very, very pissed off.

Lol, toward the end of yahtzee's review he admitted that Reach's Campaign was actually good enough for the game to stand on that alone. But seriously, you're suggesting his whining fests are worth taking seriously? He's dissatisfied with pretty much any game that isn't by valve. And what cheating are you talking about? Halo is easily one of the most cheat proof shooters out there. And you really can't blame the game for idiots existing and they don't only play Halo, they're in every game. And how does the game make it inconvenient to muteo ther players? It's pretty easy, you can do it from the score board. Like I said earlier though, it's pretty clear that once again you're just here to complain about Halo, like you do every chance you get, regardless of the fact that the topic itself isn't at all about the quality of Halo: Reach, a game that ,might I remind you, you never even played.

vash, it really is quite Simple... one of the last times I played Halo 3 online, there were tons of people abusing lag spikes. My connection remained a solid green all the time, and when I would sneak up on someone and get close enough to melee, the latency would magically turn to crap. I would see them standing in place while I melee'd the **** out of them from behind for it to never count. And then once the game finally catches up, I'm the one that's dead. Yet even after looking at the video replay afterward, I couldn't find any way of reporting to bungie that this guy was a piece of **** cheater. Muting someone from the scoreboard is inconvenient because you either have to do it while you're dead (which is maybe three to five seconds at a time), or basically idling in the middle of an active game. And you can only do it one at a time. The fact that you insist on defending such a piss poor game when even gamespot admits that the campaign was short as hell makes it hard for me to take you seriously. What part of I do not want to play Halo Reach-around do you not understand? And yes, I am allowed to form an opinion on it because of the available material out there in terms of reviews and videos to show exactly what I needed to see - that the campaign is short, busted and still not anywhere near as good as what the first Halo achieved. I got so angry with the series after 3 I refused to play it anymore, and it was almost the reason I wanted nothing more to do with having an Xbox Live gold subscription.

Agreeing to this is stupid. I will agree that games are easy these days but saying everybody should be on the same page of a small percent is stupid. Secondly Ninja Gaiden II is fairly challenging, but just make sure to unlock the other difficulties.
