..."AVATARS"? Here's the story. Thoughts?

Whoa, that's pretty cool. But, I can't help but feel it's a complete rip from the Wii and the upcoming PS3 Home. Perhaps there's a Home-like feature on its way as well?

EDIT: I'm a little confused as to why "new console" owners get it in Spring, while everything else gets it this Holiday. They should just roll it out all at once...

Price for "content packs"= 800 M$ points.

This would only be cool if you could get super detailed and customized with it.

I was thinking about that too. Since it says it'll be available to Live users this holiday and "new console" owners this Spring, i assume it'll be available to anyone with Live, and that it'll be included on the Harddrive of all new systems starting in the Spring? I dont know.....

An unnamed source puts a picture on a strange website and says it conforms to rumours another website got about a survey about what 360 users think about avatars.

In the next few days someone will ask a MS rep about this and get the stock line "MS do not comment on rumours"

Also if new console buyers get it in Spring - they should already have it. But why would new users get something, but existing users wait until when? Christmas? Saying "this holiday season" is again way too vague an answer.

Personally i think it COULD be cool if they added unlockable "items" for your Avatar attached to achievements. Imagine if you could earn Master Chiefs helmet for your Avatar for beating Halo 3 on Legendary. Or a chainsaw for getting the "seriously" achievement. I think that could be fun. DZBricktop

You make it sound cool so im excited. This is highly possible considering one of the avatars is wearing a incredibles shirt. I dont know about avatars though what would you do with them.

I like it. I just don't want some MMO type world. As a PS3 owner, I'm really not interested in Home, but if these Avatars are used to just make your profile more original than that's fine. It would be funny if they reacted to how you played like if your doing bad they pop up and look mad or something.MuffinPunk

Lord, I enjoy my XBOX 360, but I don't pretend to live in a world where Microsoft is an ORIGINAL company.

They ripped off Sony, SEGA, and Nintendo to get where they are.

That's okay, though, I know this and enjoy the 360 games, BUT you apparently hold them up in some sort of High Regard.

well i think its a cool idea! i mean its optional so i dnt see y it shud upset anyone! i just hope the lil guys can taunt other players cos tht wud be so funny! to see a digital version of yaself cheerin at you pwning at a game! it needs to be "cool" which is hard to do for alot of gamers to accept! atleast microsoft are tryin somefin a bit fun, even if it is a blatant ripoff! haha! but who cares! if its fun then DO IT!

MS didn't steal any of those things from Nintendo other than rumble, but that along with the others is pretty much industry standard by this point, so I'm not sure where you're going with this.

I don't mind a digital character instead of a static graphic representing me, as long at their not all cutsey like the ones in that story. I've got the Doomguy as my picture right now. The Doomguy is not cute, cuddly, or anime-inspired. I don't want my digital persona to look like something from Davey & Goliath. I've always liked the appeal the Xbox has for mature gamers. This is a step in the wrong direction. If they had character models from the actual games, that would be fine. Along those lines, it would be cool if they had unlockables, as suggested here:

This is a good idea, as long as it's an option. But one thing that would catch my attention would be a confirmation of a game like LittleBigPlanet (I can dream, can't I?).

That's not what I'm saying. It's just that it's almost impossible to assume what everybody else would think about this.

This is something that I was excepting Sony to do, considering they just copy everyone else. I don't like this idea, I think it looks really gay and stupid and I'm fine with just a regular gamer pic.

Not to mention the avatars look like Mii rip offs.
