Its hard to say, I've been a gamer since I was 8. I am turning 23 in April, and still a hardcore gamer. I would however say the highlights of my gaming life includes: SMB3, Wolfenstein 3D, Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: LTTP, Zelda: OOT, Mortal Kombat 1-3, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Mystical Quest/7/9, Quake 2, Counter Strike, and World of Warcraft.
project Gotham racing 3, because in this game you get to do great stuff like start a carrier and then buy a car and then you get to race then go back then select a challenge then you get to race that then you also get bonuses from over achieving on the novice and easy modes then you get to when you finally get enough money and plus the cars costing combined you get to sell all your cars to buy a brand new even better car... this is the game that started it all for me.
Always loved games since SMB in the NES, I have to thank DOOM however for changing the way I feel about gaming. Doom has been around forever and it is still one of the best FPS ever.

I guess I'm not the only one making a big deal out of other people's posts. Hehe.
There are 3 games that did it for me... First it was Castlevania II Simons Quest for the NES. Once I reached high school i stopped playing for a few years. In college I stumbled on Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the N64. That game got me back into gaming in a big way.  I was starting to get bored of gaming untill I started playing Halo. And 5 years later im still going strong (much to the dismay of my wife haha). I have to include all three games because all three of them changed it all for me...its just that they did so at different phases of my life.
Yeah for console gaming Banjo Tooie for me and for PC, the Sims. And on handheld, my uncle went to Japan and brought back a bunch of GB Color games, so one of those probably.
Tough to call as I have been gaming since 1978.....Probably Metroid for the NES...that game was one of the first that I would play for hours on end and never get sick of.
Other highlights are the Ultima series RPG's, espeically #4 and #5 and the original Fallout and Bard Tale Games.
