Wow, talk about a freight train of a forum post. I hate to fuel the fire more, but I figured I would add a couple of my own points, take them or leave them. Some people on here seem to think this whole situation is about compromise. It isn't, his girlfriend has given him an ultimatum...No 360 or No Me. That isn't about compromise and if she's not willing to compromise, then why should he?Â
If she came with the approach that she was asking him to limit his time with the 360 so he can spend time with her, then THAT would be about compromise and I would say "Dude, if you love her, put the controller down and take her out to a movie". But that isn't the case here.
He obviously cares about her enough to avoid saying "I'll stay with my 360, thank you" without thinking it through. And getting a game for her, while maybe not the most romantic thing, showed that he was at least trying to get her to enjoy what he loves and spend time with her. I'm sure she knew very early in this relationship that he was a gamer and if she didn't like the fact he was playing so much, she should have left him already. But she's trying to change him, and in any relationship, that isn't right.
Does he have an addiction, maybe...but did anyone here stop to think that if he enjoys playing the 360 more than being with her, that the relationship wasn't working to begin with? If he has an addiction, it would affect more than his love life...maybe his career, family, etc. and I'm sure there would be more to this story. And as far as sex goes, I don't believe this has anything to do with it.  But if it does, I would say man up, let her go and move on because you aren't doing either of you a favor if you stay with her just for that.
My bottom line, stand your ground on who you are and what you like to do. If she is truly giving you an ultimatum, then I would leave her, anyone that is unwilling to compromise shouldn't be with you anyway. If it isn't truly an ultimatum and she does want to talk it out, then you have to ask yourself if you would be willing to give up some gaming time to spend time with her. If you don't, then you either have a relationship that was destined to fail or you have an addiction, which I believe you would know, and I would seek help.
This question isn't for us to decide and he's had more than enough input to work it out, but I suspect he's had the answer in his head long before he made this post. Either way, I wish everyone luck that's in this situation!
