To my understanding, the game used to be that it was only a small campaign.. Ie.. an expansion to Halo 3. From what i've read and heard lately it's more a complete game i.e. longer, more robust and more complete. I'm guessing that's why it's gone up in price. What was once smaller and cheaper is now bigger and more expensive.

no matter who changed the price its bs. I know ill get Assassins greed 2, MW2 and bio2 no matter if they increased the price alittle. but this makes me think how much better can they possibly extend the game to want me to buy it at full price. Als considering it doesnt seem to have much advancments in game play.

They didn't promise anything. While they would have liked to price it lower it's ultimately Microsoft who calls the shots on the prices here. Regardless, it comes with enough content to justify it.

You have the correct understanding

At first the game was planned to be an expansion to Halo 3.

Over time they added so much content that the game could stand on it's own merit so they decided to make it a regular priced game at retail

ALSO, when they added all that content and saw they had a game that was complete just by itself they also kept their promise of all the Halo maps and Reach beta in every single version

If anything Halo ODST is bargain priced for all the content you'll get

I wouldn't really say that. No offence, but no one but people who have had the game in their hands on it can say that the added a lot of content. All we know is that they threw in the Halo3 DLCmaps and 3 new maps, they may be lying about tons of extra content. Ipersonally don'tthat the storyline hasn't been extended, they're probably just saying that (but that's just my opinion :D , please don't think I'm "dissing" the game and/or story, who knows, it might be EXCELLENT!)

To TC, we should ALL wait for the price to go down, maybe it will open MS and Bungie's eyes. Andcome on, I thinkBungie DEFINITELY had something to do with the prices, think about it, even if they didn't come up with the idea, do you think they were against it?!? So don't think Bungie's all "innocent", their not. Their just as guilty as MS. Not saying that this is stupid, please don't get me wrong :D !This is a very smart buisness move for both MS and Bungie! I'm just saying that they are NOT getting another $60 out of me, that's for sure. Oh well, I might not even get it if the story isn't long (I'm SOOO tired of short games!!! lol) (And I didn't even buy the maps from Halo3, I just don't think it's worth it, but that's just my opinion of course :D.

http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/852871/bungie-project-2/videos/haloodst_inv_curtiscreamer_81209.html

aparently the game started off with the intention of it being just an expansion, however, with the Halo 3 engine/graphics/models etc...already built, more effort went into the game than previously planned. According to this video, ODST's campaign is comparable to previous Halo installments.

If charging sixty dollars for a game makes Bungie guilty of milking then pretty much every developer is guilty of it to. So maybe you should complain about every other game developer instead of singling out Bungie. Seriously people, if Bungie had never mentioned wanting to price ODST lower you guys wouldn't be complaining at all. Use your brains and look at the package. It's not a rip off. Alot of games come with far less content.

The fact is they did say they we're gonna have it cheaper. its a rip to the ones that got all the maps already. i know i would of waited if i knew all the maps were coming with this game some time ago. They probably added all that other content cause they knew they were skimping us cause i doubt they added much to the game play (if any at all). Yeah iits all about the money and both companies have their hands in the price raise. it just sucks hearing this after coming back from tour for 3 months. Im sure i'll find someone wanting to return it to gamestop and ill pay him a couple bucks more than the cheap amount they con u all into selling. And theirs no reason for any of you to bs one another. I'm just annoyed of the fact. Cheers and I guess we'll all see how the new Halo fairs at some point. VIVA LA 2's (MW, Bio, & Assassins!!! B)

Bungie never stated it would for certain be less than sixty dollars. They wanted it to be less, but they never said for certain that it wouldnt. They didn't even say how much cheaper than sixty dollars they wanted it to be. They could have wanted it to be fourty dollars or they could have wanted it to be fifty five.

Regardless, compared to other games out there, this isn't such a bad price even if you already have Halo 3. ODST comes with an new campaign which will probably be between five to six hours long. It'll come with the meta-game scoring, 4-player co-op and collectibles that'll help bring replay value. And it'll come with Fire fight which will include ten maps and multiple characters to customize that you can play with. Then theres also the theater mode. It'll later include a beta to Halo: Reach. And if you already have Halo 3 and happen to also have all the maps you're getting an additional three maps that you'd likely have to pay ten dollars for down the road.

Do you know how many games go for the same price and don't include half that? Assassin's Creed only came with a campaign mode. It had no multiplayer and hardly any replayability yet I don't remember anyone complaining about having to pay sixty dollars. Same for Prince of Persia. Same for Tomb Raider: Legends. Left 4 Dead only had a four hour campaign and the competetive multiplayer was essentially the campaign repurpose. I don't recall anyone complaining about it though. Halo Wars has a campaign thats about five to six hours long and a multiplayer that doesn't come with much more maps than ODST will and no one complained about it.

Gears of War came with a five hour long campaign and only ten multiplayer maps. I don't remember anyone complaining about it being sixty dollars.

Half the Orange Box was old games yet I don't remember anyone complaining about it being a rip off. In fact people called it the best deal ever. Yet when Bungie includes part of an older game in ODST it's a rip off? Like I said, if Bungie had never said a thing about the price prior to the offical price, you guys wouldnt be complaining.

Heh, okay, a couple things...

  1. This is not news.
  2. You're complaining about the price of a game that you haven't played. And what's more, the price of the game is the standard price.

Oh well, I might not even get it if the story isn't long (I'm SOOO tired of short games!!! lol) (And I didn't even buy the maps from Halo3, I just don't think it's worth it, but that's just my opinion of course :D.

lol what are bungie gonna do? sue microsoft because they felt they priced their game too high? give me a break

Lol! No. They can come to an agreement. My guess is that the game is not going to be worth over $45 and if it is, and if Bungie actually IS against it, they should talk to MS. MS isn't all that moneyhungry, I mean, look at some other companies. They all seem pretty moneyhungerbecause of the economy.(getting back to the point):I'm not saying the game will be bad, not saying Bungie sucks, not saying anything, except that the game will probably not be worth $60 (just my opinion). Aparrently a lot of people think so, it's a pretty rough topic. Let's just wait and see! (hopefully I'm wrong! :D)

It should be downloadable for 2400 points or something like all fronts for gears 2.

they shouldve just made the campaign a bit longer and removed the 3 from the end of Halo then it wouldnt have to be an expansion pack. also does anyone know if firefight will have 4 player splitscreen?

Wtf is up with bungie, i swore they said some time ago that this halo will be just like an expansion to halo 3 and cost less. I called a few stores cause i heard u get sgt.johnson for the preorder and they're selling it for 60bucks plus tax. wtf those tards screwing us over. they must just have money on their mind now cause i know they said it wouldn't be full priced. what a gip!

Da32ozKilla
Well Bungie did come out & say that they just couldn't stop adding to the game & that it has turned out to be more of a full game than previously stated expansion. I don't even care about the game & I heard that bit of info. Worst games with smaller campaigns & less features release all the time at $60.

Most games released aren't worth the STANDARD $60.00 price, so why freak out over this one & not everyone other one?

They didn't promise anything. While they would have liked to price it lower it's ultimately Microsoft who calls the shots on the prices here. Regardless, it comes with enough content to justify it. vashkey
This. If you keep up with news you know that they started it as a cheaper expansion but in their development they expanded the game out to a greater scope that justifies the price point.

It will be 2-player co-op locally like Halo 3's campaign and 4-player online/LAN.

It was going to be DLC but bungie got so into it it ended up being like a full game.

The campaign is just as long as Halo 3, it has all the maos from halo 3 plus expansions and some of its own maps.

So io it should be worth full game price.

Heh, okay, a couple things...

  1. This is not news.
  2. You're complaining about the price of a game that you haven't played. And what's more, the price of the game is the standard price.

Palantas

Full price for retail yes, this is pretty much DLC.

ODST is not pretty much DLC, that's unfounded. It's a complete story following a whole new set of characters. It's including a whole new multiplayer mode that would hav ebeen DLC by itself. It's adding all of the previous DLC which were released alone for roughly 10 dollars each, that's what 3 map packs right there? So that's 30 for those, a new mode would have been 10-15 so we'll low ball it and say we're at 40 now. 3 new maps for mulitplayer, another 10, so 50 dollars. The original multiplayer which you would have had to pay 60 for new, but used we'll call it 25, 75 dollars, PLUS a campaign which if it were dlc would be no less than 20. So for 60 dollars, you're getting 95 dollars worth of content. Please people, Bungie has said over and over again that they originally intended it as an expansion but then through the development it took on it's own life. The content justifies the price. This is not in any way "Just DLC" and even if it were, it's enough DLC to cost more than they're asking

Oh really? How many full sized campaigns and multiplayer modes with it's own set of maps have you downloaded for a game? Most games I play just released some map packs and maybe a campaign level. Seriously, thats just bull****. The only reason you're making a big deal about this is because it's Halo. When the F.E.A.R. expansion came(which actually was just an an expansion) at sixty dollars people didn't **** half this much.

Theres way to much content in ODST to write it off as DLC. There was so much content that it had to be put on a seperate disc than the Halo 3 multiplayer. If it was sold on the market place you guys would just be complaining more since it'd probably be one of the most expensive DLC packs on the market place. People tend to whine when ever some is released on the market place and the price exceeds ten dollars. It's not a simple map pack that'd be sold for ten bucks.

There'd be no pleasing yous. No matter how much it is or how much it contains you'd still complain.

Vashkey scroll up and see my Billy Mays impression (minus the coke) that's pretty similar to what you just said.
