This review to me illustrates why everyone is copying Call of Duty these days. Seriously, complaining about a rough transition between modes or that single player doesnt prepare you properly for multiplayer? Welcome to online play is all I have to say. Ever played an RTS? Single player and multiplayer tactics are always different because the AI will never be as inventive as humans when it comes to strategy. Add to this the fact that a LOT of people have been playing the Beta. Yeah the game just launched, but your already playing against very veteran opponents...sort of the down side of open Betas.
call it an artistic preference or whatever, but he's right. Heavy Rain, Flower, and Journey would not have sold on 360 or Wii like they did no PS3. Alan Wake did not sell very well on 360 and it has a similar appeal to Heavy Rain
This is a great idea. Too many games put out paid DLC only to see it fracture the community or basically not get played at all after the first few weeks. COD is one of the few that manage to get enough people buying DLC for it to become a regular part of the rotation.
Yet another reason not to join Twitter. Twitter is more often used as an excuse to broadcast comments you probably wouldn't ever say to anyone's face. Just throw it out there, and once it's out, it can't be taken back. It works both ways. The people "tweeting" stuff they shouldn't say, and the people posting crap on other's feeds like what happened on Helper's feed. Welcome to the world of the anonymous internet gangster. lol
Another thing, most people buying up iOS games aren't the typical gaming crowd a 3DS or Vita is trying to cater to. They are casual gamers that have a phone that happens to also play games. It's not a demographic that any gaming handheld will ever reach.
So how many of these 67.8 million iOS users and 79 million adroid user REALLY bought those for games? Without it being a phone, without it hooking into itunes for Video/music content, without it hooking right into your email so you can conduct business from anywhere...no one would be buying an iOS/android device over a Vita for gaming. Trying to compare iOS games to even PSP or DS games is laughable. They cost $.99 or so for a reason...they just aren't anything more than a time waster on a bus ride. My Namco or Midway arcade collection for PSP gives me a richer gaming experience. Angry Birds is basically the only game on mobile platforms to buck this trend...and guess what? Its being ported everywhere, so you dont need an iOS device anymore to play it.
Im tired of reading journalist articles trying to compare the Vita or any other gaming handheld to the iPhone or iPad. Vita isnt trying to compete with them, nor should it. Contrary to popular belief in the media, smartphones are not taking gamers away from 3DS, PSP, etc. They are reaching totally new casual user bases that would never consider buying a 3DS or PSP or Vita anyway. They arent traditional gamers. Vita is meant for the traditional gamer. Please understand the difference. Also, any UI deficiencies will likely be addressed in software updates.
I agree about the 6.0 rating. A 6.0 means "fair" on the gamespot scale. What that says to me is the game overall isn't really good but it's not bad either. Its tolerable and there might be a niche of gamers that think its really good. I don't agree about the polish angle though. Ive seen games get 8.5 or better that had serious issues like dull single player campaigns and mics that dont work in multiplayer. Heck Skyrim launched with more bugs than a bait store and was nearly unplayable on the PS3. Its a Youtube sensation with bugs that blow my mind (coming from a software professional). Your right that 6.0 can be fun, but there is too much of a double standard in reviews. One game might get docked for polish or repetitive gameplay or nothing new in the formula, while another more reputable brand gets a pass on all that. The result is a lot of unpolished games with serious issues score 8 or above which is why people will cringe at a 5 or a 6.
Come one, dude. How many people would pay more than $5 for this game. If this game wasnt $.99 on the iPhone, it wouldn't be half as popular as it is. The key word is iPhone. Its the top time waster on arguably the hottest portable device ever. It's not making the iPhone more popular than it already is. It's not causing traditional gamers who want a PS3 or 360 to go buy an iPad instead. There is little to no reason to rethink anything here other than how the App store can be a successful venture for those who's Apps become popular.
Sure Christians can make an Infamous style game or something, but to expect that they wont add any "overbearing" religious tones is naive in itself. Actually, the Bible has a lot of cool material that could be leveraged for gaming. You could do Indiana Jones style adventure games. You could do more modern drama type games like Heavy Rain. You could do a far better RTS type game than Left Behind. Left Behind suffered in its factions. I never played it, but read the books. I would have just done a straight RTS with a demonic faction, human faction, and angelic faction each with its own fleshed out units and abilities. You could do an end times adventure game based on the events in Revelation. There is a whole wealth of material. The big problem is finding someone to fund it. These games cost a lot of money and there is no big budget Christian games studio out there.
