@Joedgabe @-Dogma- @Shinobishyguy @Jonwh18 Okey, because yeah...I can get behind all of that because I share that opinion. The franchise needs some serious changes. Don't take it wrong. I still think Zelda games are really god and fun but I would like them to start supprising me more than they do today.

@Shinobishyguy @Jonwh18 Did he say that?! And what did he mean by "going back to basics" because that sounds backwards in my book.

@gouldjw Excuse me but since when don't Sony make their own games?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Computer_Entertainment#Software_development_studios

Microsoft also have their own owned studios even if I agree they have done a really bad job during the later years by shutting down studios or use the existing in bad ways. But the point is that they do develop their own games through a bunch of firstparty developers.

@Giancarlo @-Dogma- Thanks for enjoying it!

I just felt like the actual message was getting distorted. Partly because Tom and Peter wasn't superclear what they meant when they talked about "a new IP" but mainly because of the commenters that just wont stop having a knee jerk reaction, choose not to think first and actually understand what the message was.

When these guys talk about innovation and new IP they mean high impact tripple A stuff. They want Nintendo to create that new Metroid, Zelda or Starfox. You know, IP that can have a long life, with vibrant and loved characters and worlds for a new generation. That's what they mean when they say that Nintendo haven't produced many new IP:s. Because yeah...we know Nintendo have done quite few new IP the last ten years but none of them have had a high impact on the core gamer market. None of them have been that ambitous in scope. Where are those wonderful and spellbinding worlds we used to love?

That's why this conversation is happening. Nintendo seem to rely to heavly on already existing IP. All the heavy hitters are from well known established IP. Tom and Peter want to see something brand new. I myself would love to see that.

I personally think Nintendo is listening much more on their users now than during Wii and I think they have a lot of promising stuff in the pipeline BUT in my opinion that stuff should have been here NOW, or a bit of it. Nintendo did itself no favours by botching their release plans. It's beyond me that they don't get the importance of a strong release windows. They did the same thing with 3DS, And even if Wii U started better it fast degraded to a desert with no new games.

But I will keep my judgment until E3. I'm quite sure they will not show the biggest game they have on Nintendo Direct. We already know that they will show a new core Mario game and Mario Kart game so that would not supprise to us during E3.

It would be nice if that supprise game would be something new. A new IP, with a new well realised world that gamers can fall in love with. Capcom, Ubisoft, Sony etc do this at least every generation. They invent new IP. Yeah...they may then squeeze every drop of it during 5-6 years BUT they did make the effort to create a new excíting world for gamers to experience. And THAT is what Nintendo has not given players for a very long time.

@tightwad34 I agree with you but at the same time we have learned that the business seems to be reusing the same engine at least 2-3 times before you go back and create something really new. They put in some new ideas in every game but it's nothing that makes the xperience feel totally different.

Based on what Hudson says here it seems almost like the combat/gameplay wont be the same at all and that is a very much welcome change to me since it will make a new ME game actually feel new.

@WCK619 @hoppie He had a clear and honest explanation on their homepage. They also gave us a reversable cover so why is this even a problem?

Yes, he wants this game to sell. They did a lot of testing to see what kind of cover you needed to have to achieve that. I see no problem. They make a product that cost millons so to say "sold out" seems plain wrong.

@Kungfu_Kenobi I agree with both of you. What Zynga does here is more like how China makes cheap knock of of everything. It looks almost the same but it's not the same.

In the article they talk about how the acts are up for grabs for everyone. I agree on this but since games are not movies of books then genre has to be the closest thing to compare. That's why it's is okey to use the same genre and the basic mechanics that come with those and then iterate and present different story, design, music, leveldesign etc.

What Zynga does is to not copy the genre or structure but almost all the details. Some of those pictures looks stupid similar. The big question is; how many things can you copy/paste until it's obvious that you right off "stole" someone else idea? It does not help that Zynga has been seen doing this before either. It quite clear that this is how they operate.

Not even Gameloft goes to this extent. Even if Nova is such a clear ripoff of Halo they still have different design and most important, different level layout wich quickly makes them different and shows that the designers had their own ideas even if they was heavely inspired by Halo.

In this case the game if open ended which leads to that there is no level design, it's just start surfaces that the player then can expand upon. As EA shows even the height of the walls are the same in the Ville game! My point is that since their is no room for level design/layout then then the primary room for innovation or ideas are in the structure, HUD/menus. By looking at the document from EA Zyngas game have very little of its own ideas but rather reskins others.

This just pisses me off. I actually don't hate EA but Zyngas business practice of copy/paste does not come close to EA:s business decisions about online passes and DLC and whatnot. Game studios should make games and have people that are passionate about making them based on their own concepts or ideas. If you don't have that, then what the hell kind of developer are you?

@stan_boyd @JtAgentX How can you even compare those things? It's not close to the same thing. The game shares genre but have different settings, storys, designs, mechanics, maps etc. Just because something is a military shooter does not make it a clone, the same goes for a hack n slash or an adventure games. You examples would fall under the "inspired by" column, if even that since few of those games were the first ones in their field.

Seems like a lot of people don't understand the level of copy/paste Zynga (and Gameloft) has done with their games.
