can someone at least point me in the right direction?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a new monitor for my PC (and also an Xbox 360 Elite). My budget is around £200 ($400). I want to make the right choice, so i can maximise the potential of the 360. The only problem is i'm getting confused with all the HDMI cable business, and i dont really know what to buy.

I also have 7.1 surround sound.

So if i bought a new monitor, would i be able to plug it into an Xbox 360 Elite and then plug the Elite into my surround sound system and have it all working seamlessly?

As i said before, i want to really get the best out of the 360 (within my budget).

Any recommendations or advice would really be appreciated :)
