http://www.siliconera.com/2009/06/29/sony-patents-emotion-engine-emulation-technology-for-cell-processors/

PlayStation 3s without PS2 backwards compatibility are missing the Emotion Engine, a chip Sony designed as the PS2's CPU. What if the PS3's cell processor could emulate the Emotion Engine? Theoretically, all PlayStation 3s would be able to play PS2 games even if a console didn't have the proper hardware. According to a recent patent filed by Sony Computer Entertainment in the US, Sony has the code and technology ready to do this.

This has got to be their next up for firmware 3.0 :)

If correct, the PS3 will indeed have the greatest game library EVER.

OniStrat

That would be the Wii. Virtual Console says 'what's up?'.

Oh ppppllleease. WII is still light years behind PS2 in ALL aspects.

[QUOTE="Jandurin"]PS2 games will never count towards the PS3's library. That said, if it does a good job with emulation, I will totally forgo my current plans of buying a 60GB (or 20GB) PS3.

You can already forget buying those as they're not made anymore. Oh and I wouldnt suggest buying a used PS3. Not in this milleniium. Lord knows the mileage on that delicate laser lense...

MGS4 HANDS DOWN. Even after I "finished" the game, it took another 1.5 hours of cut scenes for the freakin thing to be over.

Hi,

I have the Beyer DT 770 headphones and a nice gaming rig + PS3.

I came across this neat little gadget which seems promising for just under 100$.

Has anyone experienced with such thing before?

thanks

It's called FREE online, Bluray, Lithium rechargeable controlls, WIFI, Bluetooth and an HDD. If you get a WIFI adaptor and HDD for the Arcade system you get really close to that if not over.

That's nothing. Both PS3 and 360's hardware and software costs exactly TWICE where I live and there's no official support from both Microsoft and Sony. Infact I have to lie on my whereabouts when I signed in on PSN as it wouldnt even let me use the PSN store as an Israeli.

[QUOTE="bleehum"][QUOTE="killab2oo5"]A better question is, "Blu-ray...was it worth it?". It's been the source of most PS3 and Sony problems.killab2oo5
How so?

It's the cause for PS3's delay, high price, and Sony losing lotsa money.

Actually that's Bluray.

no a pentium 4 would have done much better for much less cost. a single core pentium 4 3/2ghz or athlon 64 3200 are much better than any console cpu but ms took the cheap option and sony to the well don't buy other people's stuff option. [QUOTE="cainetao11"]What? Have you seen MGS4 or KZ2? No graphics compare! Seriously though, maybe the cost would have been cheaper if you didn't stroke your ego by making custom processors Sony. What is it doing that others aren't?imprezawrx500
oh yeah? a budget dual core cpu will have crysis looking much better than any ps3 game. the cell is nothing but a whole lot of hype which flopped.

That's a state of ignorance. A budget dual core and what GPU exactly? 295? LOL
