On the other hand, in a world where homeless people can afford to live their whole lives in a drunken stupor, it IS entirely within a homeless person's ability to better themselves. Booze is not cheap, I know. Tonight I had to break the piggybank for my booze money. And again, I'm not even homeless, and I can hold a job. If a homeless person WANTS to spend the little money they find on booze rather than a toothbrush and some toothpaste, then that was THEIR choice, and anyone with a home and a job is entirely capable of making choices that are equally as bad. Homeless people have a LOT of freedom in how to live their lives, what they do with their lives IS up to them.

Here's a neat little exercise you can do. Go to the part of town where the homeless people live. Ask THEM if they would rather be homeless or in prison. My opinion doesn't count. Neither does yours. You're not homeless or in prison, and neither am I. Ask some people who really ARE homeless, and then come back here and tell me what they say.
