LOST Ends in 2010

So the news just broke that LOST will end in 2010 after 48 episodes split up into three 16-episode seasons.  Since Lindelof and Cuse wanted two more seasons, they're still getting what they want.  It's just now ABC gets three short seasons instead of two regular-sized ones.  The other benefit of this new system means absolutely no repeats through the 16-episode runs.

Looking it over, I think this is great news.  Nobody gets to whine any more about "they don't know where they're going," the creators have to be held accountable because it has to be all killer, no filler, and hopefully sixteen episodes will mean that the LOST DVDs will now be on three discs and be slightly cheaper (that last point, however, is pure conjecture).

Cheers to ABC for making this wise decision.  Now the LOST writers just need to keep up their end of the bargain.

Junk Food Television

With the return of Heroes tonight, Monday night officially becomes Junk Food-TV night, with Drive at 8 and Heroes at 9.  If a network could make a show out of the monkey that drinks its own pee and put it at the 10 PM slot, the night would truly be complete.

The Blurb on Betty - 1x19 - "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"

While I applaude the writers on their one-two gut-punch of Mark's mother rejecting him and Daniel going back to old habits, I was pretty disappointed by A) Wilhelmina's villany becoming borderline pathetic by trying to get Claire to drunkely give away the magazine and whoring herself out to Bradford so she can be editor-in-chief; and B) the final talk between Betty and Mark just felt dishonest.  If they really wanted to hammer home the pain and rejection of having your own mother disown you just for being yourself, then no pep talk from Betty and no brave face from Mark could realistically bring it up.  What they should have done is have Betty try to talk to Mark and then have him say something along the lines of "I know you're just trying to help but I just need to sit here a little while," and have Betty accept that.

Claymation!

If you're a fan of the BBC's Life on Mars, then I'm sure you'll agree that the opening for Episode 5 is easily the best they've ever done.  I need to get an animated GIF of Claymation Gov beating a guy with a trash can lid.

Heroes Hole - 1x18 - Parasite

So Eric Roberts says that Claire's mom and brother were deeply mindwiped but she must have known what was going on before they even checked on HRG.  When did they have time to do a scan?  Or did Parkman just lie?  And if Parkman's the only way of knowing and Parkman is willing to lie on behalf of HRG, then why bother with a mindwipe in the first place?

More Notes on Deadwood: Season 3

If any major awards body gave out a "Best Villain on a TV Program", this year it would undoubtably have to go George Hearst.  He is the embodiment of what we all believe power to be at its most dangerous.  The way he coldly yet casually mentions his thoughts of murdering Bullock and raping Mrs. Ellsworth sent shivers up my spine.

The first two seasons of Deadwood have been good, not great.  The first four episodes of season three have been great.
