The Weekly Blurb on Betty

Might as well make it a regular feature. This week...

If you're going to make Mark so obviously gay you eventually have to show him with a man. To not is to silently affirm statements like "We don't hate gay people. We just hate the act that defines them." Effiminate does not equal gay but since this week's episode showed him in woman's clothing (and I know that cross-dressing does not equal gay either), it's clear that it's what they're going for so just give the man a man already.

Also, in a rare false move, I didn't like that Daniel's competition was perfect.  That sort of macho competition has been done so many times.  It's be far more interesting if Hunter had been the nerdy tech guy and that Daniel learned it wasn't about being better but being different.

Yet another Ugly Betty post

The episodes don't really provide me with enough material for a review, but I will say this: Walter has got to go.  He's not good enough for Betty and he's holding her back.  She needs to go for that much more charming but also kind fellow from accounting.

What Part of BETTY is Ugliest?

1. Willimina's gay assistant Marc who's never seen with a guy.

2. Betty still being with Walter even though he cheated on her.

3. The ethnic slurs used by the nastier characters.

I'm not saying these things make Betty a bad show. They'll just make Betty a bad show if they're still present by the end of the season.

Ask And Ye Shall Receive

Amanda got a personality this week!  Hooray!

Hopefully the rumor that NBC is planning to back all their scripted shows up to 9-11 PM proves true.  This way I can watch Betty at 8 and Earl/The Office at 9 rather than having to go to ABC.com to catch up with Betty like I've been doing.

Ugly Amanda

Becki Newton seems to have perfected the look of the "cat-that-ate-the-canary" with her character Amanda on Ugly Betty.  Unfortunately, it really loses its effect when it's the only expression the character has.

She's the inverse of Betty.  We get it.  At least Emily Blunt got to develop beyond a biotch in The Devil Wears Prada.

Prison Broken

Reflecting on last week's episode, I have to quit this show.  It's just become too twisty except the twists tend to be ill-conceived and have pushed me out of this show instead of drawing me in.  Mahone killing Tweener puts Mahone beyond redemption and makes him seem more like a sore loser than an over-zealous marshall.

But even worse than Tweener's murder was Sucre's turn on his fellow convicts.  It's a completely non-sensical twist.  And both Michael and Lincoln should be smart enough to see that LJ's release was a trap for Lincoln.

I enjoyed the last handful of episodes, but this recent turn just made me decide that I don't have an hour to waste on this show anymore.

October Is Too Far Away

After a deluge of premieres, I have to wait till October 4th for new Lost and South Park, October 5th for new Drawn Together, and October 6th for new Battlestar.

::sigh::

Six Degrees

I'm so indifferent towards this show, that I'm not sure I even want to bother with a review for the pilot, especially when I still have reviews to write for Studio 60, Prison Break, Earl, and The Office.
