@LukeWesty Do you honestly think males who enjoy playing female protagonists or can identify with women are sexually confused? You really need to meet more people.

@Erynn I will admit as much as I dislike how so many studios shoot down the idea of female protagonists, I think this is an odd franchise to suddenly use one in. Gears of Wars screams testosterone.

Though I will also admit, I think "female perspective" is being overestimated here. I don't think wartime with a woman needs to play out that different. There are a lot of different female perspectives. Heck, I could picture one acting even more gun ho than the guys.

I know this sounds a bit overblown, but I wish these studios would just take a risk. The only way we are going to see more female main characters is if companies will actually use them. Instead, we get these statements explaining why they don't think it would work, garnering the buzz they desired as well. Meanwhile, nothing has changed.

Of course, we need enough male gamers willing to be open minded enough to play as *gasp* a female.

Hopefully, the new Tomb Raider will sell well and some companies will take a hint. Though we all know Lara's already proven that games featuring female protagonists can sell.

A few last notes:

Ancient China has sported a variety of weapons: long spears, duel swords, rottery crossbows, missiles, etc...

For those missing the grand cities to run and scale, Beijing would be ideal.

And of course, the Japanese Pirates (the Wako) would provide naval warfare while the Mongolian invasion would give a chance to plow through a battlefield as many people had desired to do in AC III.

For your consideration, Ming Dynasty China starring Shao Jun from Embers. This is a period of beautiful architecture and creative warfare. A tyrant emperor is on the throne and the assassins have been wiped out, save a few survivors. Mongolian invasion looms on the horizon and Japanese pirates are continuously raiding the coasts.

You've got a strong female lead who makes for a likable protagonist with her mellow, sweet, and mature personality. She masterly uses fast and fluid martial arts and sports the creative foot blade. Shao Jun's even had the opportunity to meet the legendary Ezio Auditore. She now intends to restore her order from the ashes under the looming threat of the Templars and the Jiajing Emperor.

This is why I'm sold on Shao Jun and the assassin order in ancient China. Everything I mentioned happened or was brought up in the short film Embers and the rest can be found in actual history. This is a great opportunity for Ubisoft and I hope they'll use it.

@Gezquester Unfortunately, some people rather have their right to resell a digital product (in this case, one made easily affordable through Steam) than care if it's hurting the company and perhaps even dooming it.

@emperiox @4nationfury @hasherr Nobody said it is or isn't. I flat out stated private resells hurt profits. I'm sure car owners can resell their cars to all their buddies for 5 bucks. But to act as if the way this can be easily exploited with a digital product is not dangerous, is just plain careless and ignorant. How about reading hasherr and the others' points and considering how this can effect the company. Piracy hurts Valve. Digital resells (especially unmonitored) will hurt Valve too.

@emperiox I'm sure Valve isn't too fond of buyers upset that games they probably bought for a modest five dollars on a Steam sale are whining about not being able to resell to make a quick buck.

@emperiox @4nationfury @hasherr Of course they are losing money. Private resells do hurt companies. If the buyer resells to another gamer than the game company loses a sale they could have made selling a new game.
