Being "more of the same" isn't necessarily a bad thing, in my opinion. But it does affect the price I'll pay for it. If it shows up on a 75% Steam sale, I'll pick it up. Until then, I'll play other games.
I would describe a hardcore gamer as one who really delves deep into the heart of the games he/she plays and identifies the artistic value in them. Just like there are people that are "movie fanatics". They don't just watch a movie, they take notice of acting, lighting, sound, music, pacing, cinematography, etc.
Forza 5 is looking good. But I have Forza 4 and I think that looks great too. I firmly believe that PS3/X360 and now PS4/X1 are well into the law of diminishing returns. In the end, that's why I'm not that stoked about next gen. I think visually current gen already looks good (although 60 fps should be standard on all next-gen games). What I would like to see all that horsepower used for is things like zero load times, insane draw distances, and scenes with large clusters of people that behave independently from each other.
