While there has been a positive correlation between violent videogame players and violence caused by these people you cant tell whether violent videogames are actually causing any problems so i don't think that much progress is going to be made on that front.
The problem im worried about, that ive stated before elsewhere, is the fact that as videogames become more mainstream more people are exposed to them, which means more people are offended by them which in turn leads to more censorship. You can see evidence of this now, with games causing controversy before they are even released, whereas 10 years ago it was substantially harder for a game to be banned/blacklisted and/or censored. In some countries, notably austrialia, any videogames w/ a mature rating are banned for sale and this is only likely to become more widespread as more people start gaming.
I think that w/ more opposition gaming is going to have to change but whether this is for the best remains yet unknown...
