I still don't think we should go changing the topic 6 pages in but hell, what's my opinion matter...

...But have them be superfluous to the actual end score.

I know this may sound more like IGNs current way of doing things, but I honestly think it would help a lot for the quick-glance reviews that users won't actually want to read all the way through. Transformers comes to mind, the good/bad parts help distinguish at a glance where the score is coming from, but that's about it unless you want to read the whole review. Having a small scale likespazzx625

Quite the contrary in my opinion. I thought it was much easier to differentiate between two games when their scores were 8.3 and 8.7. Now they're just both 8.5 and that doesn't help me at all.

This topic is about the changes to the Gamespace other than the review system. I'd still like to hear feedback on that topic, since we're still actively working to improve the initial roll-out of the new design.

There are plenty of other topics focused on the review system changes.

SamP

Well since we've already spammed the Hell out of this thread with mainly review-related feedback, why don't you just comment on what we said here?

Look at it this way:

You're having a pizza party and 51% want large crust and 49% want thin crust. Do you just get large crusted pizzas, or do you get 2 of both kinds?

Some people like this system but there's an equal amount of a majority to hate it as well.

Magic_Shrek

Is it just me or did that make no sense? What's "an equal amount of a majority"?

I was trying to convey that mixing the two systems would make a completely new and lovable system, but I think I failed to some extent.

Now GameSpot Employees, most of the people who have posted an opinion in this thread are veteran GameSpot lovers, and pretty much all of the opinions are negative. We're the ones who really care, our opinions should be noted. Can't we please bring back the old reviewing system? It would make so many people happy.

Magic_Shrek

Indeed, but don't kid yourself into thinking that GameSpot care about what the users want for one minute. Just look at all the excellent ideas and suggestions already kicking around in here that are completely ignored in favour of this unwanted and unwelcome change. Over the last month I've seen GameSpot in a whole new light, and it's not pretty!

They will rally together and defend the decisions made until everyone gets fed up arguing at which point they can tell themselves they were right all along. It's sad really, but that seems to be the way things are done.

Many people are adverse to change and take time to adjust, but in this instance people know what they want. The fact so many people have taken the time to post here and voice their disapproval should send a clear message to GameSpot. They will refuse to see it though and be blinded by their own vision. If only for once they could admit that just maybe they got it wrong, they won't of course and the whole of GameSpot will suffer as a result.

Amen.

[QUOTE="hazbazz"]Just looked at the latest review to use the new system (Final Fantasy PSP). Where are those medals?nappan

Yeah, same here. People keep talking about medals but I don't see any.

Exactly. Which means that unlike the old system which let you see exactly how a score was derived, in this new and "improved" system, unless a game is deemed to be special enough (bad or good) for a medal, the score's derivation is obscured. When you add that to the .5 increments... you've basically gutted the entire review system. Just brilliant. I've been comparing this to "New Coke", but really this is worse in it's own way.

If you look at the 2 other new review which DO have medals, I think a rational person would be struck by the fact that we've actually GAINED NOTHING. These medals could have been added to the old system as a nice visual bonus and people would be cheering. However, by gutting the old system and replacing them with these "sucks you in" or "good voice acting" you just dumb the whole process down. I already READ THE REVIEWS. A good review should already cover issues that stand out in medals, but that doesn't change my desire to see the nuts and bolts of how the reviewer chose a specific score, and I'm already loathing the .5 increments.

Finally, to the minority of people who think this is a nifty way to get people to read reviews... I ALREADY read them. I don't need someone to take AWAY information to entice me to read what I already enjoy. For the people who won't read reviews, don't think that showing them shiney medals will prod them into spontaeous literacy. This whole move is just needless and strikes at the very core of gamespot's credibility as a reviewing site.

I completely agree with most of that. I think it would be much cooler though if we had the old reviewing style back, mnus the Tilt, and plus the medals. I never really understood Tilt too good (I'd have to reference the Help Guide whenever it came to deciding Tilt in a review) but the Medals System sounds like a nifty update to the Good and the Bad section.

P.S. I find it ironic that Nappan's views are highly negative and his rank is "Defias Brotherhood". Get it?

Is this all because of the Twilight Princess review? Just because a lot of people got mad over that doesn't mean we need a completely new system just to have it round to a 9 instead of attaining the 8.8 score it got.

Of course, I'm just saying all of this if this is the only reason we're getting this new system.

Also at the time of writing this there is no xbox section in the main nav. Reasons?pacothelovetaco

There's never going to be anymore Xbox games or updates to the system, so they just took the whole section down because it's pointless.
