Why? Beside the bad pc port. Is the actual game bad.:)

Inconsistancy

not bad, just really generic. there are far superior shooters out there.

In the core mechanic (shooting) I don't think it's exactly shabby... Many, many worse games in that respect. It's got a botched release, some 'meh' decisions (story related... basically an id shooter, gameplay>story)

The only game that I've played recently, albeit just a demo, that was any good as a sp shooter was Hard Reset.

the shooting is fine, and the AI is good.... pretty much everything else is bare bones gameplay. flatline story, uninteresting characters, no character development, generic questing.... the core of the game is fun, shooting things is rewarding. everything else drags it down into "meh" territory though.

im all about the co-op but u have to catch up young padawon, i got over 100,000 souls and im lvl 35 right now but im at the very beginning, undead burg, so if u manage lol to keep up ill playJoKeR_421
uh.... wat? how the hell are you lvl 35 with 100k souls and still in undead burg? i dont think you can even get that many souls if you completely clear the entire place.... if you are spending that much time grinding... you are kind of missing the point of the game...

If you have patience and common sense ... you shouldn't die that much. I am glad there are games that kill idiots, but don't complain about it openly.

lolwut.....? im pretty sure any game that is intended to have an average of 150 player deaths during the first play through can be considered hard.

Yep. Looks pretty but it seems very very shallow. ood to have fun with once through and then no appreciation after that. So disappointed in Gearbox. I want an aliens game thats actually hard and Aliens come from everywhere. Sneak up on you. and don't go down in a few shots

seanmcloughlin

For Christ's Sake it's a 10 min demo...

- I'm sure it will be hard on parts (or just raise the difficulty level)

- I'm sure Aliens will come from everywhere in parts

- I'm sure Aliens will sneak up on you

- And the big Alien (new species) didn't go down with a few shots did they...?

Ok maybe im quick to judge but from what I saw and I didn't get that vibe from it. I got an action vibe and not horror

rightfully so.... Aliens was more of an action movie than a horror movie. it definitely had horror elements... like the colonist chestburster scene... but it was an action movie at heart, and an amazing one.

[QUOTE="AWolfoftheCalla"]i cant say i am disappointed in RAGE, because i never had any expectations for it in the first place. IMO ID makes *amazing* engines, but has failed to make a compelling game since about Quake Arena. Rented it to check out IDTech 5, and wow, it is indeed amazing looking. I thought megatextures would be a complete gimmick like they have been in the past (quake wars anyone?) but you can truly tell the difference in this version of the engine. The game, however, continues to not impress. Generic "go here and kill these" quests coupled with (so far) a horribly uninteresting storyline that might as well have just been a side chapter to a fallout game (considering how nearly identical the premises are), provide little incentive to keep playing. All of this just furthers my plea for ID to retire from game design and go full steam into game engine construction from now on.firefox59
But the only game they have made since Quake Arena other than Rage was Doom 3, and that was the best selling game ever. So basically you are saying you didn't like Doom 3? They haven't made a game in forever until now. You want iD to stop making games now that they started up again? Lol

doom 3 had an expansion.... and they consulted on quake 4, which knowing ID, is just as good as them codeveloping it with raven. those three games were just.... not that good at all. Awesome tech for the time, lousy games.

they intended for the game to have co op so why limit it?doubalfa
because the idea of coop in the game is a vital mechanic to how it is played...having to work with strangers is a vital mechanic of the world and story...you are meant to not know who your helper is. they are meant to be a mystery, unfamiliar, unpredictable... just like the game itself.

@zombie, I realize that. All I'm saying is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. At least in demons souls you could play with a friend by working really hard at it. In Dark Souls it's P2P, different lobbies, so it matches randomly with somone with a close ping. You might get lucky and get your friend in once, other than that it's random...

firefox59

no its not... you act like the signs on the ground are random... they arent. if there is a sign on the ground, it is because someone specifically put it there. it doesnt, however, show every sign and every hint that has ever been placed on the ground. that part IS random. it doesnt match you with a random person if you click on a sign though, that is THAT persons signs that you are selecting...

I don't see how you can argue this. We have gotten over the weird requirement to co-op. But not being able to co-op with your friends? That has NOTHING to do with difficulty. Why the game would force you to work with other people is like taking rights away from the gamer. Most people don't want to co-op with complete strangers.

so now it is your right to play with your friends? where is this "bill of gamer rights" that has this written? i want to play word of warcraft like a first person shooter.... but i cant, because the designers want me to play it like a standard MMO. they designed it that way... sucks to be me right? if i dont like it, i dont have to play it/buy it.

the designers have said repeatedly that they dont want you to play with friends, because they dont want you to be able to coordinate with anyone, feel comfortable, or communicate with others in the game world. The people you summon are supposed to be random travelers from alternate time streams in your world.... its not like inviting a friend over to kill some undead. The game world is supposed to be hard, uncompromising, and unfriendly.

so forcing a user is better than giving him the option to do it? doubalfa
if that is how they intended you to play the game, then yes...
