Do you want an action game or a racing game? Both games are good in my opinion. It really boils down to what genre you like more. I would go with Assassins, personally, but I own and love both games.
I won't be buying GTA IV for a while. I am amazed that people have the time to play all the great games on 360. I'm still playing Burnout Paradise and Mass Effect.
It's a lot easier to jump in and play cod4 than it is to play Gears. Gears takes a lot more skill and the community for the game has been playing it for a long time. With CoD4 you just need the basic run-and-gun-then-crouch skills of your average fps. That said, cod4 has a really deep character progression system for the online play. I would go with cod4 because you get the most for your money. You could also get orange box for Team Fortress 2 and Portal. If you have never played Half Life 2 before, then get CoD4 and Orange Box.
Is it worth getting? I played the demo and loved it, but I don't know if the game is worth the buy. Does the idea of ripping peoples' hearts out and hiding in the shadows stay fun? And is the multiplayer as bad as all the reviews say?

Played through on Hardened and had no desire to trial and error my way through Vetern. And that's exactly what it is - trial and error. die 500 times per level until you memorize where all the terrorist jump out. sorry, that's a fact.theandy2000
My friend, I played through the campaign on veteran and I only died about 10-15 times in each level. This reinforces the fact that you are probably a whiny little kid, sitting at home complaining about how you don't like certain genres of gaming. I suppose you're going to call me a queer now, or something. After all, you are "GOOD AT GETTING LAID> YOU MAKE MORE $$$ THAN I DO IN A YEAR"
Poeople who actually get a paycheck usually don't brag to high school kids about how they can make more money, I should hope. But there is a first time for everything.
