As much as seeing one of the two HD consoles fail would make many fanboys of the competitor happy, it'd be a disaster for their own console as well... as opposed to develop it for the Wii (wich requires a definately separate process) and then have to place a gamble on the wii enormlus installed base and scattered target....

Agreed, since if one of the two HD consoles goes under, it will be disasterous for that one. Even if it's difficult to program on the Wii, it can be done (even if it's done horribly) and WILL IMPROVE OVER TIME given the chance. It can take up to a year or more to make a "good" game for a console and that's why we see so few 1st party games from Nintendo.
I don't know what 1st party games are made for MS and Sony; not like I care, but that's beside the point. The point is, it takes time to make a game with a new control scheme (IE the Wii) that one on a standard controller (IE 360 and PS3).
