Iirc there was supposed to be a DEMO disc included with the US/UK value packs but as I got mine on import from play-asia.com (b4 they got SONY-stomped the...) I didn't get one :(
But you don't need a startup disc so don't worry about that. Where are your dead pixels btw? Are they black or white? If black they are dead, white they are probably just stuck and are usually only noticeable against black backgrounds (I've lived with mine for some time now...).
Well two of the three game shops I (shouldn't go in so often) said allocation was aroudn the same as for the Wii and they didn't sell their pre-order allocation and still had surplus as of yesterday. One of the managers said that interest was low. Could just be those three shops in my area...was just saying.
Apologies for mentioning something that's old. I haven't been in these forums b4 as I didn't have a PS3 until the weekend therefore no reasonable excuse to be here.
The PS3 right now is only emulating the Emotion Engine on European consoles. It still has the PS2 graphics card in it. The 360 has to emulate both the CPU and GPU. Eventually they will take the GPU out of the PS3 as well and whole new emulated list will come out. Unless they actually leave that chip in there forever.b11051973
...which is entirely likely to be based on whether it will save them money or not. Quite impressed with BC so far :) Better than I hoped for in fact but then I doubt my catalogue of PS2/PS games is as numerous as you guys as I'd ditched most of my games for PS2 long ago...
I just tested all games in my collection. Only 4 games won't run, Guitar Hero (controller problem), SSX and Tekken Tag Tourny on the PS2 and Final Fantasy VIII on the PSX. Even games not listed on the BC web site like Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Collection and NfS Hot Pursite 2 ran and I didn't notice a problem in any of them. The message that comes up when a game wont run says to check for an update to the PS3, hopefully 1.7 will make the rest run.
Now if M$ could get the 12 Xbox games that wont run on my 360 working I would be happy with BC.

That's weird as FFVIII work sfine on my PS3! I've been playing a lot of FFVII and Dragons Quest too... Only game I've found that doens't work so far is REZ sadly :( Ade.
Just to show you guys that the launch of the PS3 was not just a success in the UK, i leave you with the numbers in my country, Portugal. It's definitely a much smaller market but the numbers speak for themselves.
90% of the PS3s available at launch were sold in the last four days. Just for comparison, the PS3 sold six times more than the PS2 at launch.lusitanogamer
Not sure where these figures come from in the UK tbh, London maybe? I got my PS3 friday and the shops in my area are struggling to sell their pre-ordered stock let alone their surplus. :(
Ever since I played Oblivion, Final Fantasy will just be too boring for me.Logan832
I've been feeling a general apathy for games of late too :( (particularly grind fests)
I bought the PS3 on friday and one game (motor storm). I already have a 360 with plenty of the games that have been ported to the PS3 (Oblivion etc) so there didn't seem much point getting any others.
Over the weekend I played motorstorm a bit but, after trying the BC feature I;ve mainly been playing FFVII and DragonsQuest (8 or whatever the title is!). Personally I wish teh series hadn't gone the foute that FFVIII went in but X-2 was just a cash in and XII does seem a little heartless. Lacking that essential HOOK that keeps you coming back to finish all the hidden stuff :(
