[QUOTE="m25105"] This quote sums up why so many gamers are hypocrites That and this picture. DragonfireXZ95

So damn true. I'm so sick of gamers trashing talking about "feminism" whenever the subject comes up. Its so uninformed.

If a girl says anything about games its 'omg! She must be a feminist! Stay away from our games! Get back to the kitchen'.

Really tired of it.

Only some games are considered "art form", but political subjectivity and sexism has nothing to do with art.

Actually there have been quite a few artists that use their canvas to express certain social, political and sexual points. Still from a game players perspective. I don't see why not have female characters in multiplayer? ME3 has female characters. It adds more variety even if can be superficial and I don't see it effecting gameplay. Any polygon head blows up froma headshot regardless how it looks. Video Games still have a long way to go if it is to be taken seriously, so it doesn't become just a stereo typical medium that only appeals to hormonal teen boys. There will always be room for games that are 'traditional and maybe exploitive", but we cant just dismiss some factors although we may not agree with it initially may actually end up making games more deeper, meaningful and more broadly appealing.

[QUOTE="drinkerofjuice"]Well it's not like the Alien films are centered around a female protagonist or anything like that. kuu2

Not sure if serious.

It's sarcasm, but it is strong observation that Gearbox has somehow missed with the Alien franchise that gender is very present in the franchise. From a pragmatic stand point since it is the future and women are capable for front line combat roles. Heck even a lot of the aliens are female notably the Queen as the ultimate Alien. Symbolically Aliens and face huggers representing a particular sexual organ. (this was based on some analysis on the franchise and Ridley Scott's directorial)

[QUOTE="Wasdie"]

Couldn't play a female character in any CoD, didn't hear people complain about that. Couldn't play a female character in Battlefield 3, nobody complained about that...

Who cares. Stupid feminism.

RobertBowen

The difference being that Aliens: Colonial Marines is based on a well-known movie franchise that features strong female characters. Vasquez was not the only female marine in Aliens, there were a couple of others, including the pilot of the dropship. So not having playable female marines (in multiplayer at least) for this game seems like a very odd decision.

Yeah it's weird with this in mind All the Alien films as well as crossovers with Predators had strong female protagonists.(that's a good thing because the damsel in distress is boring as hell) Alien, Aliens, Alien3(even though essentially they all died), Alien resurrection, Aliens vs Predator, Alien vs Predator R, they All had a leading female and it was often a female that was the hero and all the males died off. Even in your typical horror slasher movies like Nightmare on Elm street, Jason and Scream nearly always has the female being the heroine. Sci-Fi and horror are one of the few genres that female heroism is becoming the default(I think it should) I actually wish Mass Effect had Shepard as female by default.

I just hope the TC realizes that sony has been selling a lot of it's shares and joint ventures:

they sold their sharp shares for 125 million

they sold their chemical business for 770 million

and their LCD joint venture with samsung for 939 million

lol you must have worked real hard for that post. i think your post pretty much proves and represents how desperate the 360 and its followers are at this point

he did his homework. the 360 is at 66 million, the PS3 at 62. Sony shed 10,000 jobs and has recorded huge financial lossess. the Vita is selling less then expected. Xbox360 will rack up even more sales since the introduction of the new pricing plan and one of the Xbox360's biggest exlcusives that has always sold millions wil be launching by years end.

Thanks I really appreciate it. But that begs another question. Will these technologies be more common....say 50 years from now?

Wasdie

Impossible to tell.

I just know that in the foreseeable future that content creation costs are going to limit developer's abilities to make photorealistic graphics. Especially when the amount of power between the consoles and PC becomes irrelevant.

There will be a point where hardware is so powerful that it could run CGI looking games without a problem. However that CGI content has to be created, and that is no easy or cheap task.

Unless other companies make engines and tool sets specifically for these things and makes it more easier to use for developers. We have all these graphics and physics engines, and I think there will be opportunities for other companies to provide services to devs to lighten the work load or deal with extreme technical tasks that they shouldn't necessarily have to do. I wish their was a company out there that just made an engine for super intelligent game a.i. that can play any genre in a believable way. Then devs could request this company to employ this a.i. In their games.

[QUOTE="sts106mat"][QUOTE="JC_Spot"] So if the 60m race has almost finished the head start doesn't count?JC_Spot
did the headstart the PS2 had over the xbox count?

Obviously....? What I'm saying is that the 360 and PS3 will probably have the same life span, so comparisons should only be made once both have released their new consoles and the gen has actually ended, so you can say who won the gen instead of declaring a winner before the end.

comparisons should only be made from a 10 year life cycle?

let's go with this.

Say the 720 launches in '13. This makes it the official ending of the 360. so all sales of the 360 after '12 do not count.

the PS4 launches in '14. so the PS3 has one year to itself to make up 4+million units in '13.

I could see theoretically it could happen, but unfortunately there are variables in actuality.

Wouldn't the PS3 be competing with the 720 then? couldn't that effect it's ability to sell?. Sure it may make 4+ million.

MS has stated that they would continue to support the Xbox360 one day longer then the PS3.

We don't care how long the console has been out for, no matter how hard we try to sugar coat it.

In the end the hard figures are looked the tallies, sales and how much they have earned for the companies., they see how it performed -investors are happy, gamers are happy that's it.

Doesn't matter how much they support it if they have released a new console. The gen has ended once both have released their next gen consoles, and by that point the PS3 will have sold more alright? Are you really going to deny that?

how do you know this?

When MS has stated themselves that they would continue to support the Xbox360 one day longer then the PS3. There is still money to made with the Xbox360. why can't the next generation launch while the current system is still on the market. wouldn't it be better for a smooth long migration for users to jump to the next generation of consoles?

Heck, we saw how long it took for many PS2 owners to jump off the fence and migrate to the PS3 and Xbox360 especially when the PS2 was still getting games that late in it's life cycle while the current gen consoles where out.

It's not going to be a quick cut over for both consoles.

This is not 2005. That excuse is done to death. Cows are going to have to deal. PS3 position is so weak that it can't get out of last place where it belongs.

It's not an excuse at all. If PS3 had more time to market their console it would have sold more consoles obviously. You think if the PS3 was able to sell their console a year earlier they would have sold 0 consoles? Yeah right.

PS3 launched almost exactly a year after Xbox 360 and 16 months later in Europe.

of course they would have sold more if they launched a year earlier. maybe the sales between both consoles would be neck to neck or even the P3 having a lead.

Yes, hypothetically I give you that.. The Playstation brand would have been at an advantage due to recognition and having Japan in it's corner, MS may have lowered the consoles price even lower to compete. how would we know exactly how it would turn out?

[QUOTE="JC_Spot"] To be fair, if you averaged sales per year the PS3 wins. Head start is a head start, 10 meters head start in a 60 meter race essentially. You're basically saying that by the end the 10 meters doesn't matter because it was at the start? Oh and ONLY Europe? The European population is higher than North America? I'm not a cow, I'm just using actual statistical analysis.Davekeeh

This generation is almost finished and the gap has grown from the smallest point of aound 2 million to as close as 4 million.

Source? The smallest point is 1.3 million according to: http://www.computerandvideogames.com/324651/lifetime-ps3-sales-close-to-catching-xbox-360s/
And that's an article from November 2011

And this generation is almost over for Microsoft, we have alot of new ip's to look forward to.

ok fine 1.3 jumping closer to 4 million.

http://www.geekwire.com/2012/xbox-360-tops-wii-ps3-1st-time-yearly-global-sales/

this is from February this year with the PS3 at 62 million and the Xbox360 at 66 million.

the gap has to shrink if the PS3 is to get out of last place.

generation is almost over for Microsoft?

Dont pull a PinnacleGamingP now.

You're too smart for that.
