The problem is that it's yet another stand alone applicaiton that we have to run in the background, except it comes with NONE of the perks of Steam. It's like Steam 1.0, when it first came out. It sucked, and so does Origin.
If origin wanted to compete with Steam, it needed to come right out fo the gate with a ton of features - at the very least the same one found in Steam.

What are the perks of Steam besides the sales and Online gaming platform. I understand it can get comlicated with so many online distributors but What about people with D2D or Impulse? Aren't those are yet another service people have to log into?
why would anyone have to log into d2d? is there a game that requires it?Ive only ever used steam, I was under the impression that you had to log into other Digital distribution services as well.

I would like to know why there is all this backlash against EA's origin, I just simply want to know, I understand that Ea taking their games off of Steam was a crappy move but what about the service is actually bad. Anyone tha has used it or if anybody knows any details about the negative aspects of Origin please discuss, as I would like to know. I saw something posted on Escapist that Origin will only give you access to your games for one year. I am not sure if its true or if someone is just trying to add more flames. Please discuss.

It also sets a precedent for more company-exclusive Digital Distribution platforms.
If other companies follow this trend, Activision, Ubisoft, THQ, Square Enix, Konami, Sega, Capcom, etc. might have their own SEPARATE clients you have to install.
It's just too much fragmentation in a market that yearns to be unified.
I can understand that, But to be honest I really see this as a move by EA to get its foot into the door of the digital market. When steam first came out it really only distributed its own games and added more games later on. I think EA wants a store like Steam considering Valve makes so much money from steam.

When did MW3 ever have dedicated server support, If it happened recently then I am in deed in the wrong, please link me as this is news to me.
This is just a random site. Only the PC version has Dedicated servers.

well this indeed a plus However I still have a feeling there might be a catch to the whole dedicated server thing like there was for black ops. Hopefully they will let people choose the server provider and enable mods but that is "asking alot" from Activision.

Sure, we are getting a server browser. A gimped one, at that.
MW3 and RO2 FTW!

So your complaining about BF3 having a gimped server browser (but yet it still has dedicated servers), but are saying MW3 for the win? when it has been already stated that MW3 will not support dedicated servers? Someone's smart.

i thought they were the same. but most people say Live is much better. just want to know why?
wawasjohn
They are mostly the same but what really sets them apart is the overall user experience of Xbox Live. Its easier to use, it works, Micorosft tells you when there is a scheduled maintanence, patch downloads are quicker, Cross game chat, early access to DLC, better freinds management, updates and community playdates, better security, better moderators to help keep ignorant people in check. Earlier this year Microsoft and Police Busted a bunch of creepos on xbox live trying to solicite innapropriate activities on the service. And so far (knock on wood) Xbox live has never been hacked, keeping my Personal info safe. Xbox live is an overall bettter service, but that isnt to say that PSN is bad. Its usually the small things that make Xbox live a more seemless experience than PSN, but PSn is still pretty good for being free, there are just some annoyances.
PS: also to add Xbox live Arcade is also great, there are some very awesome XBL only arcade games that are great exclusives as well.
Just you wait. BF4 will become a free to play, pay to win game you launch via the Origin fanpage on Facebook.
It's a very slippery slope. They are doing this because they want to integrate the game that much more tightly with the web. Have you seen a list of EA's acquisitions recently? Have you seen what comments they have made? It is clear that they want to big players in the free to play space, since that generates more revenue over time than a boxed product with DLC ever will. And BF3 is just the starting point where they will nudge gamers in that direction.
Want to use a jet? $1.50 please. Want to upgrade the optics on your rifle? $2.50 please.
It is a slippery slope.

I think someone needs some fresh air, you seem to be predicting some sort of gaming "apocalypse". Being in front of a computer for a while can make you loopy get some fresh air man its good for you.
