@bdrtfm: Still better than what they did to Radical Edward in Cowboy Bebop...

@rawrz720: Claptrap was at least tolerable in the games and occasionally had some good lines. Why they couldn't just go with the original voice actor is beyond me.

@olddadgamer: Again it's not about an actors ability to perform with good writing and good direction but rather how well they do when those things are NOT present. With that in mind, Curtis and Blanchette have a lot of stinkers.

Kevin's comedy is fine but he is also one of those actors who can't really be anybody but himself. So the role basically has to be tailored to him rather than the other way round, which is not a sign of a good actor.

@judaspete: He was pretty cringe as Bowser. You know that whole piano scene and stupid song was a requirement for him to take the role and it really hurt the movie in my opinion.

@olddadgamer: Define "talent". Most of these actors don't really have a whole lot of true acting talent, instead they are just easily moldable by a competent director/writer/producer so that they appear talented. The literal moment you take away the competent visionary from the group they turn into complete trash.

Compare that to Raul Julia in Street Fighter. That man was a talented actor. He took the absolute garbage script and terrible directing from that film and STILL managed to shine in his role regardless. This was in large part because he knew it would be his last film and he was doing it for his kids, but it was consistent with his other roles so it wasn't a fluke. THAT is talent.

Can we all finally agree that Jack Black sucks at doing literally anything other than being Jack Black (and he's pretty bad at that as it is)?

@xnshd: Tell me, where oh where do movie studios get their money from, hmmm?

Answer: Us the audience. If they don't produce high quality movies that people can afford to go to, then they STOP GOING. As such it is in the industries best interests for the American people (and those around the world) have a decent amount of disposable income to spend on going to the movies.

The MCU was a BILLION dollar industry, employing THOUSANDS of workers, from animators and set designers to personal trainers and musicians and toy makers and so many more. Without the iconic characters that entire system grinds to a halt and hurts all the workers at every rung of that ladder, not just the big wigs.

You're right, you have to dumb it down in order for it to be ridiculous, because when you understand the movie industry you realize that the money they spend in attempting to turn profits is paying people's wages, and not just RDJ's.

@restatbonfire: Justified? By whom? I'm arguing that there is no "justification" only simple market forces at play. If RDJ can revitalize the ailing Marvel Franchise which was a BILLION dollar industry, then yes 80 million would be justifiable from a corporate expenditure viewpoint. You have to balance that equation of what you put in vs what you hope to get out of it, it's rather simple when you get down to it.

Also you should realize that if the American people are struggling too much financially, then they will not spend their money on luxury goods like Movie Tickets, so the industry has a vested interest in the wellbeing of their customers. The same is true of literally every other industry. You can't get blood from a stone and they are keenly aware of this fact post covid.

How is this that hard for you?

@sippio: Not really, no. Entertainment, and more precisely storytelling, has always been a big part of the social fabric. Having heroes to look up to and inspire us is a very important thing for humanity, regardless of whether they are fictional or real. Also, it's not like watching a movie is a big ticket purchase.

No, it's not about "priorities", it's about monetizability. When your individual acting/athletic skills are a key factor in bringing in BILLIONS of dollars in revenue, then you should be compensated accordingly. This does not change for other jobs, but rarely is an individual such a key factor for pulling in the big bucks outside of sports and acting.

To put it another way, Bezos isn't rich because he forced people to use Amazon, he's rich because he made a platform that everyone WANTS to use because it is incredibly convenient when compared to shopping at brick and mortar stores, especially if you live in more rural areas where the local shops tend to only stock basic necessities.

The same is true of RDJ. He made Iron Man a household name and was a major draw to get people to buy tickets across the world.

@santinegrete: By gamespot user ratings.

I don't think the game deserves an 8.5, but also not quite a 5. The story was incredibly weak, the characters were bland and one dimensional, and so on.

The gameplay was very repetitive, but it had it's moments, mostly around the hordes which were quite exhilarating to take out, but that's about it. I'd honestly rate it closer to a 6.5 personally.
