China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh are all HUGE countries, and very few of them are playing PS4/XboxOne.

It doesn't really damage a console market which already exists, and is profitable selling to people in North America, Europe, Japan and Oceania. But you can guarantee that any company would rather be making money from the chinese market than not.

Microsoft don't need the xbox brand to get Windows 10 into the living room. Steam boxes serve that end.

All this question is really asking is were you a teenager in the early 2000s or the late 2000s.

My personal big years were:

  • 1999 - i was 8 and loved Unreal Tournament and Pokemon Gold/Silver blew my mind
  • 2002 - Timesplitters 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, it was also a great year for the gamecube with Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine and Eternal Darkness
  • 2005 - Shadow of the Colossus, Resi 4, God of War, DMC 3 are the PS2 hitting its end of life peak and I had a part time job so I could buy them all at launch. Mario Kart DS was incredible at the time, with its fairly well realised online play.
  • 2007 - got a 360 and an HD TV. Was blown away by Portal, Bioshock, Cod4, Halo 3, Mass Effect, PGR4, Rock Band, Forza 2
  • 2012 - my time available for games is so much less and Hotline Miami, FTL, Walking Dead, Mark of the Ninja were big for me at a time when I only had a non-gaming laptop to game on

Ultimately it doesn't really matter which has the most exclusives at the end of the lifespan, but which was best for playing games during the generation. In that respect I'd say that Wii60 was the way to go.

for quite a while 360 ran multiplats better - probably due to more "PC-like" architecture.

Gears of War, Mass Effect, Halo, Forza, Nuts and Bolts, Crackdown, Viva Pinata, Lost Odyssey, PGR 3, PGR 4 are still exclusives.

And there were plenty of games which were exclusive for a while before being ported over to PS3, e.g. Mass Effect.

XBLA also had better games, even if MS didn't deal with their indie devs very well

Unless you want the chance to play splatoon while the community is still large, there is no reason to get one urgently.

You could always get it at the end of its lifespan and try to pick up the console and games cheaper, or see if there is NX backwards compatibility
