Don't even think about buying Shellshock 2.

If you haven't played Conemned 1+2 yet, I'd recommend those. I'm not sure about Deadly Premonition, maybe someone else can talk about that. Another game would be Silent Hill Homecoming. Other than that, you either would have to choose another console or wait for another Survival Horror game, I'm afraid.

Like someone mentioned, Survival Horror games are pretty rare. If you have a PS 3 I'd say go with Siren: Blood Curse. Last gen offers some too like Project Zero (=Fatal Frame), Call of Cthulhu (besides Silent Hill and Resident Evil of course)

Most longer session last around 10 hours. It's usually games like Diablo II, Enemy Territory, GTA, Oblivion.

The longest overall session must've been Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas, the online race mod of GTA: San Andreas. I played one complete week on average 10 hours a day. There was a scoring on a server for every player. When I started to play, they were far ahead. After that week I was 1st and some people thought I'm cheating, especially one arrogant prick.

I think in the future there will be digital download as well as physical retail.

Personally, I'd like to stick with the physical if it's a complex game like GTA. However, simple and short games like LostWinds, Darwinia, Splosion Man, Shadow Complex, Puzzle Challenge, Defense Grid: Awakening, Toy Soldiers, Art Style: ORBIENT, flOw, flower and what not are made by smaller developers too, which means less risk and to be honest it isn't a problem just to have them as download.

Having downloads is problematic due to losing the game files. Physical copies can't be deleted or lost that easily. Oh, I'm reading the "don't have to swap discs"-argument again. My answer: I'm too lazy to wait for the download to finish. No seriously, that's not an argument, that's just a statement. There are people who don't have/use the internet on their gaming pc, so retail is likely to exist in the future. Heck, even DLC can be bought on physical discs although it's very short.

To sum up: All Digital Medium -> No. Small games as digital medium -> yes. no digital downloads at all -> fine, doesn't matter to me.

[QUOTE="AthenaLorien"]

I'm looking for a great game. I'm relatively new to gaming, though I've been married to an extreme gamer (mostly MMO on PC) for 11 years. Two years ago, I finally decided that, I could either go crazy and continue to berate him for disappearing for months at a time, or I could surrender to the process and join him. ;) Ionly want to play the best. I did a lot of research and initially chose Oblivion. I did pretty well with it, put about 40 hours into it, but never quite finished it. (I didn't quite like all the nasty creatures that appeared after I had to enter the gates). I might actually like the game if I went back to it, but I sucked at fighting at the time, and it was very frustrating and stressful for me.Last year, I happily completed Fable II. Loved it. I even started playing it over again recently. I played Puzzele Quest for hours. Didn't like the second one. I played Eternal Sonata with my family, and I liked it, but the cheesy voices were fairly painful for me and the fighting was repetitive and too unrealistic. The graphics and the story were great though. I've tried a couple of other JRPGs and I've been underwhelmed. They aren't completely out of the question, however. I already own Tales of Vesperia but we haven't started it yet. I loved Kingdom for Keflings.

I put over 100 hours into Dragon Age this winter (on PC), and it was honestly incredible for me. I played as a human rogue female, and I loved everything about it (including the Alistair romance). (Did I mention I was a woman?) I loved the voice acting, the story, the quests, everything. I enjoy aquiring, buying and selling stuff. I've already played Awakening. This was the perfect gaming experience for me.

I can tell you what I don't like. Shooters with a lot of noisy gunfire turn me off. I really wanted to like Mass Effect, but the setting was a turnoff. This surprises me, since I love scifi, ( Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek TNG and Stargate SG1 are my favorite series) but, in terms of gaming, fantasy oriented stuff seems to be more appealing. I didn't like all the shooting either. A great score in the background(as appointed to gunfire) is appealing; I loved running toward a sunset in Oblivion while listening to the music.

I've researched and researched until I can't do it anymore, and I still can't find anything. I tried Alan Wake and the controls, the darkness, and negative energy and scary vibe turned me off.

I've narrowed it down to two games. Assassin's Creed II and Red Dead Redemption. I know that Red Dead is a shooter, but it's a different kind of shooting. I like the shooting in Fable, for example, but Gears of War or Halo are not options. I know Assassin's Creed II is not an RPG, but it seems about as close as I can get to what I'm looking for. Any suggestions?

I know its not for the x-box but have you ever thought about World of Warcraft because you sound like you dont mind puting in the hours and it seems like your sort of game fantasy and sort of like dragon age. I rate this game really high its one of the greatest games iv ever played i really advise you give it a go.Also if you dont like shooters dont go for red dead redemption because you will be dissapointed not with the gameplay because thats really fun and a great laugh but it is quite a typical shooter just better

hope this helps(Y)

I would only recommend WoW if there is no risk of addiction. You see, I bought WoW too, but only because I know I'm not interested in leveling up high, gaining gozu items, doing raids and joining guilds. That's probably the biggest factors that cause the addiction. So, a clear YES if you can control yourself (and I mean REALLY) and a big NO if you can't. I know, it's not like every player is addicted, but they simply wanted it to be addicting and succeeded.

Though I don't know Earthworm Jim (need to read reviews first), I'm sure you'd enjoy Worms 2 if you itend to use rather multiplayer.

So basically you want us to recommend one of the two games or others too? Might be a stupid question, but why don't you play MMOs like your friend? Sounds like it would be the type of game you'd enjoy?

Sure, recommemend one of those two, or even something else that I might be missing.

It's interesting that you brought up MMOs.Last night I started looking into them, but I don't want others relying on me to stay in the game. I think we only have room for one person in our house whose "five more minutes" turns into 30 (or an hour)! My husband is currently taking a hiatus from Eve, but when he was involved in missions, it could take hours. Plus, his position dictated that he was expected to be involved in planned events with other corporations and it....er...interfered with other things we had going on. (I used to tell him that it seemed more like a second job than a game). :)

I have read, however, that some MMOs have enough solo content to be satisfying most of the time. I'm not interested in WOW. Maybe Lord of things Rings. I'd prefer something with a really good story and great voice acting, though. I think that's part of the reason I got tired of Oblivion.

I'd say Assassin's Creed 2 (maybe the first too if you don't mind repetitive mission design), maybe Viva Pinata (create own garden, catch animals and make them stay, hidden gem) and Darksiders (Zelda like, but violent, hidden gem too). I don't know what kind of shooting/shooter you don't like, but I would definately recommend BIOSHOCK. Not everyday setting, nice story with lots of background information and exploring, simply put, not a straight forward shooter. It isn't a 40h game, but if you like it, there is a 2nd already and in the future a 3rd part too. But it has a kind of creepy atmosphere, not horror but you must like it.

They all have good stories except Viva Pinata. Bioshock impressed me a lot, the rating for the game is actually deserved unlike Gears of War.

I think San Andreas is still ok, you don't have to play it before IV. However, everything before San Andreas is too old in comparison to IV.

Can't go wrong with COD 2, I'm currently playing it, it's not Gears of War graphics but the rest is great.

So, i'm thinking of getting GTA IV...anyone recommend it/ advise against it..and for what reasons...i'm on the fence...i mean..since i have Red Dead Redemption should i bother with GTA?...

Xx_Hopeless_xX

I can tell you a lot about the game, played through it twice with a total amount of time spent around 150-200 hours. No spoilers.

The story, although realistic and mature, gets repetitive and there aren't a lot of funny dialogs. It's pretty serious. You don't work your way all the way up and are king of Liberty City in the end, you're just an ordinary gangster. There's no such thing as "gang wars" in this game, where you have to eliminate the other gangs like in San Andreas. You don't travel through a whole state, only through one city.

The car handling can be frustrating, especially if you expect it to be as easy as in previous GTAs. You won't be able to shake the police so easy because of the car handling AND the realism. You can't just crash into cars and drive on, the car will be wrecked very soon and that affects handling too and they will of course blow up as usual. You don't handle into a direction and the car does it in the same moment, you will have to know what would happen and handle IN ADVANCE, otherwise it's too late.

Don't expect to be able to buy houses, don't expect jetpacks, rhinos, airplanes, casinos, gyms, barbers, tatoo shops and body statistics such as fat, muscle, sex appeal and don't expect tuning shops or weapon skills as well as lowrider contests or bmx challenges. Don't expect bikes in general, don't expect hills, mountains like Mt. Chilidad, don't expect deserts, trucker missions, businesses to aquire, tons of possibilities to spend your money.

If you expect a city to explore, long and twisted story, top notch voice acting, incredible amount of spoken dialogue and speech, lots of subtle action, blood and gore, a game where you realize that the developers paid A LOT of attention to detail, tons of radio stations, tons of jokes, sarcasm and funny names, very heavy weapon sounds..

.. simply put, if you don't expect a SAN ANDREAS 2, and don't define a better game by "more possibilities" then get it.

I could tell you about the improvements, but really, this should be enough. (ok i'll name a few so you get an idea - VERY improved hand to hand combat, cover system deluxe, mobile phone, gps, internet with very funny websites, internet dating, police tracing, incredible amount of fictive companies and slogans (you'll get an impression if you read the manual), TV programmes, calling a taxi to get to mission, parking your car on the street without garage, more realism in a lot of aspects like accidents and incredibly realistic bullet holes in car windows, random people on the street with interesting side missions, friends and side activities like bowling, drinking, pool, eating, and much more, I just can't think of all right now).

I have to say that I was very surprised by the depth of the characters and the quality of voice acting which measures up easily to the depth of the story. The amount of spoken dialogue not only by random pedestrians or story dialogue but also by conversations between the main protagonist and his friends during activities was very, very entertaining.
