It's actually a really good idea. Just asked my dad if there was anything out there like that on the market and he said there wasn't (he's builds furniture/cabinets). Build a prototype out of some cheap material and get all the flaws out of it before you make it out of a better quality wood like Maple of Cherry.
My girlfriend used to do it pretty bad. She's tried explaining it to me, but I can't really understand it. It's just something in their head that if they cut, the physical pain helps them cope with emotional pain. She went to a rehab up in Chicago for it as well though. She doesn't do it anymore and she did it before I met her, but the scars are still and always will be there.
I'm going to Devry online for my engineering degree, which is about the only degree that has any value their, I've read that their other degree programs just don't hold any weight.
