Games are trying to convey virtual realism. The guns are all Realistic gun models that are found in the U.S Military thus it has to stay to true fashion or the game is called ultra fantasy. Games that are placed in Modern or Futuristic Modern have a certain theme to follow.Should we compare Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64 and Banjo Kazooie? All fantasy games with unlimitedpossibilities.

instead of making the next bioshock, metroid prime or half life, we get this.
and besides, even taking the picture literally, killzone 3 is set in the future ,but it dosent seem like they want to be creative, when its easier to copy something.
Bioshock 2 just came out this year. You expect to hear something new from them? Deus Ex looks promising and is First Person (Maybe Shooter, Maybe Not) X - Com is being made by 2K games which is a artistic FPS. Fear 3 is another chapter in a "good" franchise which seems to have some new mechanics.FPS games have not just become "all the same" Killzones future is an artistic choice not a meh lets not be original. It is part of a franchise and that franchise has a style. Not all future games are going to be lazorz! Look at the U.S military once again the M16 has been used since 1963 and years later the same gone in various models are still used. It is realistic to believe that in the future not all things will look drastically different but similar design. There is a large audience that follows this sort of a game and then there is a crowd that will buy Deus Ex and XCom.
Even Crysis added some new stuff to the FPS genre and is continuing that again with its much anticipated sequel.
