Why would they abandon a brandname that's worth Billions of dollars? The Playstation brandname is one of the most recognisable brandnames in the videogame industry. Hell, you even hear people refering to this generation of people (as in Generation Y, not this generation of consoles) as the Playstation Generation.

I did actually. I found that out the other day, reading a Wired Magazine article about Halo 3. It was like an 8 page article on Halo in general, & it really got me thinking that Halo 3 should be high AAA.

To the topic creator - thankyou for sharing. As others have said, this is probably the most interesting thread in SW for a long time. I think your conclusions are solid, and the look to have a factual basis. The writing's on the wall for the PS3 if Sony doesn't do something with it, and relatively quickly.
My suggestions for Sony would be: Look at adjusting the pricing of the PS3; Change the marketing of the PS3 (perhaps pushing it as a blu-ray player only isn't such a good idea?); Look at what models they're offering & what they're packing in with them; Create a mascot character/franchise (ala Halo, Mario) to improve console recognition.
Life isn't fair. Capitalism isn't (necessarily) fair. Sorry break it to you. :P
But yes, in a sense, it is unfair that you should have to fork out for 3 different systems to play the various games which aren't released on any other console. Yet at the same time, these are one of the reasons Sony and Nintendo & Microsoft stay in business. :)
EDIT: And, as PelekotansDream (sorry if I spelt it wrongly) very correctly pointed out, exclusives do help to create an identity for a console, which is quite important.
